Gailard Sartain (born September 18, 1946) is a former American actor, often playing characters with roots in the South. He was a regular on the country music variety series Hee Haw. His best known role is Chuck in Ernest Saves Christmas and Ernest Goes to Jail as well as on Hey Vern, It's Ernest and The Outsiders. He is also an accomplished and successful painter and illustrator.
Sartain was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of a Tulsa fire chief. He attended Cascia Hall Preparatory School, is a 1963 graduate of Will Rogers High School in Tulsa and was a member of the Epsilon Mu chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Tulsa, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In 1968, Gailard moved to New York City, where he worked as an assistant to illustrator Paul Davis.
Sartain's entry into entertainment was launched in Tulsa. Working originally as a cameraman at a local television station, he gained notoriety through the creation of a late night off-the-wall comedy program entitled The Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting. Dressed as a wizard, wearing a dark blue robe and pointed wizard's cap, Sartain hosted the program as "Dr. Mazeppa Pompazoidi". Other cast members included fellow Tulsans Gary Busey and Jim Millaway. The program was broadcast on the Tulsa CBS affiliate KOTV and later the ABC affiliate KTUL. It featured B-movies, with skits written and performed by Sartain, Busey and company between the movie segments.

Lulu's Truck Stop—Lulu Roman owned this greasy spoon, where the food and customer service was usually pretty bad; Gailard Sartain was also in this sketch as the chef Orville.

Bumbling Ernest P. Worrell is assigned to jury duty, where a crooked lawyer notices a resemblance with crime boss Mr. Nash, and arranges a switch. Nash assumes Ernest's job as a bank
This was a sit com chock full of comedic talent. Hicks plays his part using the impression of his father which has always been my favorite part of his act. I'd say to bad it didn't become a series, but considering the brilliant comedian Hicks became maybe it was better that his acting career was cut short. Bill is just in a supporting role but his talent is obvious, Gailard Sartain (in another supporting role) is a brilliant comedic actor.

In Coke Sams's Existo (1999), the Moral Majority runs the U.S. while artists like Existo (Bruce Arntson) and Maxine (Jackie Welch) hide out in The Sewer, an underground club run by Colette Watchuwill (Gailard Sartain). Brought to us by some of the folks behind the Ernest films, Bruce Arntson, Coke Sams, and J. Clarke Gallivan, Existo is a hyperbolic, hysterical musical that is perfect viewing for this election cycle. Skizz Cyzyk and Scott Calonico join Mike to discuss Existo as well as the Ernest P. Worrell (Jim Varney) phenomenon.
