TPMS, or Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, alert you if you have unsafe air pressure in any of your tires. These monitors are installed in your wheels, and alert you through a symbol on the dashboard that looks a little like a flat tire.
In 2007, the Federal TREAD act (or Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) began requiring all new cars and light trucks come equipped with TPMS. This legislation, like that requiring air bags, helps to keep you safe on the road.
The TPMS sensors are located inside each of your wheels. The sensors send a radio frequency signal to the vehicle onboard computer, which will illuminate a light on your dashboard if your tire pressure were to become unsafe.
If you see that light activate and stay on, you'll want to pull over and check that your tires are okay. It's a good idea to carry a digital air pressure gauge for checks like these. As long as your tires are safe, you can drive on to a shop and have the air topped off. If the tire is punctured or flat, you can change it or call Tow to Pep. (1-800-PEP-BOYS)
Driving on underinflated tires is dangerous. They create friction, heat up and can blow out while you're driving -- this causes thousands of accidents every year. Seventy-five percent of all roadside flats are caused by under-inflation. Underinflated tires also waste money. They lower your fuel efficiency up to 10 miles for every fill-up, costing money each time you go to the pump. Underinflated tires also degrade faster, sending you to the shop for a big ticket purchase earlier than necessary.
If the light comes on and starts flashing, that means one or more of your sensors can't accurately measure your air pressure. It's probably due to a low battery. The sensor battery life is about 5 to 7 years. Once the TPMS battery dies, the sensor itself needs to be replaced.

The TPMS sensor batteries have an expected life of 7-10 years. When a battery in any of the sensors has died the vehicle will illuminate the TPMS warning indicator on the gauge cluster. When the light is illuminated the system is no longer monitoring the vehicle's tire pressures. Have your vehicle inspected by your local dealer if the indicator is illuminated.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring system light will let you know when your tire pressure is low and when your sensors are malfunctioning. In this video I show you how to find the correct tire pressure (door sill sticker), find the low tire, inflate the tire, and also inspect all of the tires. For every 10°F the pressure will change 1psi and in this case, Fall has a large change in temperature and it triggered the TPMS light.
If the low tire pressure light is flashing, this is usually due to low batteries. The batteries should last from 5-7 years or around 100,000 miles. Unfortunately the only way to replace these batteries is to take the tire off the rim.
In 2005 the US governemnt told the car companies to get ready to have all their cars include a standard TPMS and in 2007 it was required for every new car to have TPMS

A tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is an electronic system designed to monitor the air pressure inside the pneumatic tires on various types of vehicles. TPMS report real-time tire-pressure information to the driver of the vehicle, either via a gauge, a pictogram display, or a simple low-pressure warning light. TPMS can be divided into two different types — direct (dTPMS) and indirect (iTPMS). TPMS are provided both at an OEM (factory) level as well as an aftermarket solution.
Due to the significant influence tire pressure has on vehicle safety and efficiency, TPMS was first adopted widely by the European market as an optional feature for luxury passenger vehicles in the 1980s. The first passenger vehicle to adopt tire-pressure monitoring (TPM) was the Porsche 959 in 1986, using a hollow spoke wheel system developed by PSK. In 1996 Renault used the Michelin PAX system for the Scenic and in 1999 the PSA Peugeot Citroën decided to adopt TPM as a standard feature on the Peugeot 607. The following year (2000), Renault launched the Laguna II, the first high volume mid-size passenger vehicle in the world to be equipped with TPM as a standard feature.

Cold inflation pressure is the inflation pressure of tires before the car is driven and the tires warmed up. Recommended cold inflation pressure is displayed on the owner's manual and on the placard (or sticker) attached to the vehicle door edge, pillar, glovebox door or fuel filler flap. Drivers are encouraged to make sure their tires are adequately inflated, as suboptimal tire pressure can greatly reduce fuel economy, increase emissions, and can lead to premature failure of the tire. Excessive pressure, on the other hand, will lead to blowouts.
Tire pressure is measured in psi in the Imperial and customary systems, bar, which is deprecated but accepted for use with SI or the kilopascal (kPa), which is an SI unit.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring system light will let you know when your tire pressure is low and when your sensors are malfunctioning. In this video I show you how to find the correct tire pressure (door sill sticker), find the low tire, inflate the tire, and also inspect all of the tires. For every 10°F the pressure will change 1psi and in this case, Fall has a large change in temperature and it triggered the TPMS light. If the low tire pressure light is flashing, this is usually due to low batteries. The batteries should last from 5-7 years or around 100,000 miles. Unfortunately the only way to replace these batteries is to take the tire off the rim. TPMS, or Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, alert you if you have unsafe air pressure in any of your tires. These monitors are installed in your wheels, and alert you through a symbol on the dashboard that looks a little like a flat tire.
In 2007, the Federal TREAD act (or Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) began requiring all new cars and light trucks come equipped with TPMS. This legislation, like that requiring air bags, helps to keep you safe on the road.
The TPMS sensors are located inside each of your wheels. The sensors send a radio frequency signal to the vehicle onboard computer, which will illuminate a light on your dashboard if your tire pressure were to become unsafe.
If you see that light activate and stay on, you'll want to pull over and check that your tires are okay. It's a good idea to carry a digital air pressure gauge for checks like these. As long as your tires are safe, you can drive on to a shop and have the air topped off. If the tire is punctured or flat, you can change it or call Tow to Pep. (1-800-PEP-BOYS)
Driving on underinflated tires is dangerous. They create friction, heat up and can blow out while you're driving -- this causes thousands of accidents every year. Seventy-five percent of all roadside flats are caused by under-inflation. Underinflated tires also waste money. They lower your fuel efficiency up to 10 miles for every fill-up, costing money each time you go to the pump. Underinflated tires also degrade faster, sending you to the shop for a big ticket purchase earlier than necessary.
If the light comes on and starts flashing, that means one or more of your sensors can't accurately measure your air pressure. It's probably due to a low battery. The sensor battery life is about 5 to 7 years. Once the TPMS battery dies, the sensor itself needs to be replaced.

TPMS, or Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, alert you if you have unsafe air pressure in any of your tires. These monitors are installed in your wheels, and alert you through a symbol on the dashboard that looks a little like a flat tire.
In 2007, the Federal TREAD act (or Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) began requiring all new cars and light trucks come equipped with TPMS. This legislation, like that requiring air bags, helps to keep you safe on the road.
The TPMS sensors are located inside each of your wheels. The sensors send a radio frequency signal to the vehicle onboard computer, which will illuminate a light on your dashboard if your tire pressure were to become unsafe.
If you see that light activate and stay on, you'll want to pull over and check that your tires are okay. It's a good idea to carry a digital air pressure gauge for checks like these. As long as your tires are safe, you can drive on to a shop and have the air topped off. If the tire is punctured or flat, you can change it or call Tow to Pep. (1-800-PEP-BOYS)
Driving on underinflated tires is dangerous. They create friction, heat up and can blow out while you're driving -- this causes thousands of accidents every year. Seventy-five percent of all roadside flats are caused by under-inflation. Underinflated tires also waste money. They lower your fuel efficiency up to 10 miles for every fill-up, costing money each time you go to the pump. Underinflated tires also degrade faster, sending you to the shop for a big ticket purchase earlier than necessary.
If the light comes on and starts flashing, that means one or more of your sensors can't accurately measure your air pressure. It's probably due to a low battery. The sensor battery life is about 5 to 7 years. Once the TPMS battery dies, the sensor itself needs to be replaced.

When the light is illuminated the system is no longer monitoring the vehicle's tire pressures. Have your vehicle inspected by your local dealer if the indicator is illuminated.

In this video I show you how to find the correct tire pressure (door sill sticker), find the low tire, inflate the tire, and also inspect all of the tires. For every 10°F the pressure will change 1psi and in this case, Fall has a large change in temperature and it triggered the TPMS light.
If the low tire pressure light is flashing, this is usually due to low batteries. The batteries should last from 5-7 years or around 100,000 miles. Unfortunately the only way to replace these batteries is to take the tire off the rim.
In 2005 the US governemnt told the car companies to get ready to have all their cars include a standard TPMS and in 2007 it was required for every new car to have TPMS
