5th place Infernoid Zoodiac Deck from the Charlotte, NC Regional. I went 7-1-1. I did not play Lawnmowing though, this was a 40 card build, but here's why I think it's better and why I found success with it: With 60 card decks, you have a certain deckbuilding contradiction to where you're forced to play 18+ starter cards in order to be on par with the consistency of Zoodiac decks this format. However, if 1/3 of your cards are starter cards, your starter cards will be the most probable cards that you mill from lawnmowing. Of course, it's also possible to mill well, very well even, but the balance of starter vs cards you want to mill like Infernoid and Snow is very tricky, and statistically, the high multiplicity from playing so many different cards can lead to inconsistencies. There is another contradiction with Vanishment/Feast and Left ARm Offering. Next reason I chose this deck was due to the various power levels of different plays. So again when you play 19 or more starters in a 60 card build, you're very likely to see one of them, but they aren't all equal. For example drawing barrage is worse than drawing terrortop. Drawing Left Arm Offering is worse than drawing That Grass Looks Greener and doesn't work at all with Vanishment or Feast. Drawing Barrage after Lawnmowing and milling rats isn't as valuable. So my point is that while you have a lot of starter cards, there are also a lot of contradictions and the power of the starters is not equal nor consistent (inconsistent in this regard meaning the power level changes depending on the gamestate of cards like LOA, Lawnmowing, and Barrage) Strongest Plays: 1. Terrortop 2. Vanishment 3. Lawnmowing 4. Barrage 5. Rat 6. Left Arm (In standard Infernoid Zoo decks with 60 cards) I put Lawnmowing 3rd because you cannot control what you mill, so there isn't a consistent outcome.So 3rd is more of like an average power level relative to other starters in the deck. Notice how Lawnmowing can actually make the other plays worse and is only the 3rd best play in my opinion while left arm is the worst. This is why I wanted to focus the best 2 starter cards: Terrortop and Vanishment/Feast. Another major reason is the higher chance of seeing other power plays such as Dimensional Barrier, Future Fusion, Maxx "C", and other side deck cards. Matchups/Rounds: Round 1: PK Fire (2-0) Round 2: Lightsworn (1-1), (6th place) Round 3: Fluffals (2-0) Round 4: Metalfoes Zoo (2-1) Round 5: Metalfoes Zoodiac (2-1) Round 6: 60 card Infernoid Zoodiac (2--1), (24th place) Round 7: Metalfoes Zoodiac (2-1) Round 8: Metalfoes Zoodiac (0-2), (3rd place) Round 9: 60 card Paleozoic (2-0), (9th place) So, honestly, hardly of these matches were easy. Most of them came down to the wire, making plays the best plays at the right time. The PK Fire and Fluffal matches weren't bad, but it's so hard to actually win vs Metalfoes Zoo, and I don't think I could have without having such a strong side board against them. The Lightsworn matchup is also hard because their engine is far more efficient than the Infernoid engine, so they can easily outgrind Infernoid decks. I think I have the edge in the Infernoid mirror due to being more consistent. Then the Paleo deck is also hard to beat because summoning Infernoids isn't free, so stopping your infernoid plays really hurts. and Again, Infernoids struggle with resource management against more efficient engines.
