Powder keg

A powder keg is a barrel of gunpowder. The powder keg was the primary method for storing and transporting large quantities of black powder up until the 1870s and the adoption of the modern cased bullet. However, the barrels had to be handled with care, since a spark or other source of heat could cause the contents to deflagrate.

Metaphor

Powder keg is also a metaphorical term for a region that political, socio-economic, historical or other circumstances have made prone to outbursts. The analogy is drawn from a perception that certain territories may seem peaceful and dormant until another event triggers a large outburst of violence. The term is most often used to simplify and help the understanding of what is often a complex set of circumstances that lead to conflicts (see diagram of World War I Powder Keg).

While the term is used to designate the entire region of Europe it is often used specifically to refer to countries on the Balkan peninsula and particularly the ex-Yugoslavian countries. The most cited event attributed to the use of the term was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand that took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1914 which triggered World War I.

Powder Keg: A Blast into the Wilderness

Powder Keg: A Blast Into The Wilderness (commonly referred to as Powder Keg) is a steel roller coaster at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. It was built in 2004 and opened in 2005. It is also the longest ride in Silver Dollar City. The ride was installed by Ride Entertainment Group.

To save on construction costs, elements of the former Buzz Saw Falls attraction which was replaced by Powderkeg were used for the new ride; namely the lift hill structure. Other tributes to the former ride can be found in the thematic elements surrounding the queue line, such as an old Buzzsaw Falls car stuck in the roof of the first queue building, and a piece of old Buzzsaw track sticking out of the queue building's roof.

Audio track and launch sequence

Before the train launches, a short audio track plays. A man with a deep voice says three lines, as of 2014/15.

The train moves forward out of the nitro shed and a siren goes off and the stop lights go red-yellow-yellow-green and flames would shoot out of the nitro shed. Soon after, the train launches using compressed air, and the ride starts.

Cabaret Balkan

Cabaret Balkan is a 1998 Serbian film directed by Goran Paskaljević starring Miki Manojlović and Nebojša Glogovac. Its original Serbian language title is Буре барута (Bure baruta) which means Powder Keg. It was released in English speaking countries under the title of Cabaret Balkan, with the official reason for the name change being that Kevin Costner had already registered a film project under the title Powder Keg. The film received a number of distinctions, including a FIPRESCI award at the Venice Film Festival in 1998. It was based on a play by the same title by Dejan Dukovski.
