The film is based on Douglas Mawson's incredible 1912 solo trek in Antarctica. An amazing story of how, after losing his supplies and two friends to the ice, poetry and persistence kept a starving and exhausted man walking 100 miles across the harshest place on Earth.
Directed by Louie Fisher who also did sound, camera, special effects, editing, and co-wrote the script.
Will Chiles wrote and performed the music, produced and co-wrote the script.

We made this film over eight months in rural Wisconsin (Pepin County) for $80.

To help mark this year's centenary of the Aurora's return from the landmark Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE), this special presentation will bring to life the AAE's legendary leader, Sir Douglas Mawson.
Despite brutal conditions, very basic equipment, extreme privation and the tragic loss of key crew members, Mawson's AAE (1911-1914) famously still managed to deliver significant scientific research in geology, glaciology and terrestrial biology.
This incredible accomplishment, the historical context in which it was achieved and its continuing scientific legacy will be highlighted and celebrated, along with Mawson's later contribution to the University of Adelaide as creator of our Geology Department.
We will also reveal his human side. Drawing on Mawson's childhood experiences and the reflections of his family, his inspirational qualities as a person and leader will be explored, as will the lasting personal influence of the hardship he endured.
The presenters:
Emma McEwin B.A. (Hons) is currently undertaking a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide, for which her thesis is a biographical history of the Mawson family. Emma is the author of An Antarctic Affair, published in 2008.
Mark Pharaoh B.A. (Hons), M.A., is a Senior Collection Manager at the SA Museum and head of the Mawson Centre. The Centre houses the Australian Polar Collection, which includes the extensive personal collection of Sir Douglas Mawson. Mark has worked on numerous Mawson-related exhibitions and related publications.

Douglas Mawson Walking Alone tells the story of the explorer's remarkable solo trek for survival in Antarctica after the deaths of his two sledging companions. Set in early days of 1913, this remarkable tale of survival is told in three simultaneous levels, Mawson delivers a cery straightforward account of himself and his deteriorating circumstances. The libretto is based on his own sledging journal which is as matter-of-fact and understand as Mawson's speech was reported to have been. He was a scientist and a modest hero who eschewed overstatement; nevertheless, in the Opera his extremity causes occasional outbursts of emotion, despite his stoic spirit.
The strings tell a different tale; their music is complex, often turbulent and conflicted. The music represents Mawson's increasingly troubled interior state as he struggles to come to terms with the grief over the loss of his friends, his longing for home, his physical pain, hunger and exhaustion and the great burdens of loneliness, leadership and apparent powerlessness.
Finally, there are the recorded sounds representing wind, ice, rock and snow. These sounds are not hostile; they are simply indifferent to Mawson and his fate. The ice music is symmetrical and fractal and is based on the hexagonal proportions of ice crystals.
A note on the Libretto:
The libretto of this Opera, written by its composer, is based on events recorded in Douglas Mawson's sledging diaries. Each scene also contains a quotation from a literary work which is known to have been taken south by Mawson's party, except for the final scene which contains a line from a contemporary music-hall song.
Scene 1:
Mawson is burying his friend Mertz, whome he has nursed through terminal illness. Mawson's supplies are milited and he must march immediately to reach safety. The scene includes a quote from the Anglican Burial Service.
Scene2:
Mawson is forced to stay in his tent by a blizzard and worries about the state of his supplies. 'In Memoriam' by Tennyson is quoted.
Scene3:
Having fallen down a crevasse, Mawson forced himself to climb to safety. He repeats a line from 'The Quitter' by Robert Service over and over as a sort of mantra of survival.
Scene4:
As Mawson stumbles along, he becomes increasingly concerned about the deteriorating state of his health. The verse quoted is from 'Prospice' by Robert Browning.
Scene5:
Maswon has arrived in a well-supplied but unmanned snow cavern called Aladdin's Cave. As remainders of the world outside his solitary pain are invoked, Mawson becomes increasingly hopeful about his survival.

Clip 1 from 'Mawson: Life and Death in Antarctica' (Orana Films) - an award-winning 90-minute documentary following Shackleton Epic expedition leader Tim Jarvis AM's 2007 re-enactment of the polar survival journey of Sir Douglas Mawson. The documentary aired on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (The ABC) on 11th May 2008 as flagship of the Film Australia Making History series, and formed part of Channel 4′s highly acclaimed Edge of Endurance series in Britain in late 2007.

Sir Douglas Mawson, OBE, FRS, FAA (5 May 1882 – 14 October 1958) was an Australian geologist, Antarctic explorer and Academic. Along with Roald Amundsen, Robert Falcon Scott, and Ernest Shackleton, Mawson was a key expedition leader during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.
He was appointed geologist to an expedition to the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) in 1903; his report The geology of the New Hebrides, was one of the first major geological works of Melanesia. Also that year he published a geological paper on Mittagong, New South Wales. His major influences in his geological career were Professor Edgeworth David and Professor Archibald Liversidge. He then became a lecturer in petrology and mineralogy at the University of Adelaide in 1905. He identified and first described the mineral Davidite, named for Edgeworth David.
Douglas turned down an invitation to join Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova Expedition in 1910; Australian geologist Griffith Taylor went with Scott instead. Mawson chose to lead his own expedition, the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, to King George V Land and Adelie Land, the sector of the Antarctic continent immediately south of Australia, which at the time was almost entirely unexplored. The objectives were to carry out geographical exploration and scientific studies, including a visit to the South Magnetic Pole.

To help mark this year's centenary of the Aurora's return from the landmark Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE), this special presentation will bring to life the AAE's legendary leader, Sir Douglas Mawson. Despite brutal conditions, very basic equipment, extreme privation and the tragic loss of key crew members, Mawson's AAE (1911-1914) famously still managed to deliver significant scientific research in geology, glaciology and terrestrial biology. Emma McEwin B.A. (Hons) is currently undertaking a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide, for which her thesis is a biographical history of the Mawson family. Emma is the author of An Antarctic Affair, published in 2008.
Mark Pharaoh B.A. (Hons), M.A., is a Senior Collection Manager at the SA Museum and head of the Mawson Centre. The Centre houses the Australian Polar Collection, which includes the extensive personal collection of Sir Douglas Mawson. Mark has worked on numerous Mawson-related exhibitions and related publications.

Douglas Mawson Walking Alone tells the story of the explorer's remarkable solo trek for survival in Antarctica after the deaths of his two sledging companions. Set in early days of 1913, this remarkable tale of survival is told in three simultaneous levels, Mawson delivers a cery straightforward account of himself and his deteriorating circumstances. The libretto is based on his own sledging journal which is as matter-of-fact and understand as Mawson's speech was reported to have been. He was a scientist and a modest hero who eschewed overstatement; nevertheless, in the Opera his extremity causes occasional outbursts of emotion, despite his stoic spirit.
The strings tell a different tale; their music is complex, often turbulent and conflicted. The music represents Mawson's increasingly troubled interior state as he struggles to come to terms with the grief over the loss of his friends, his longing for home, his physical pain, hunger and exhaustion and the great burdens of loneliness, leadership and apparent powerlessness.
Finally, there are the recorded sounds representing wind, ice, rock and snow. These sounds are not hostile; they are simply indifferent to Mawson and his fate. The ice music is symmetrical and fractal and is based on the hexagonal proportions of ice crystals.
A note on the Libretto:
The libretto of this Opera, written by its composer, is based on events recorded in Douglas Mawson's sledging diaries. Each scene also contains a quotation from a literary work which is known to have been taken south by Mawson's party, except for the final scene which contains a line from a contemporary music-hall song.
Scene 1:
Mawson is burying his friend Mertz, whome he has nursed through terminal illness. Mawson's supplies are milited and he must march immediately to reach safety. The scene includes a quote from the Anglican Burial Service.
Scene2:
Mawson is forced to stay in his tent by a blizzard and worries about the state of his supplies. 'In Memoriam' by Tennyson is quoted.
Scene3:
Having fallen down a crevasse, Mawson forced himself to climb to safety. He repeats a line from 'The Quitter' by Robert Service over and over as a sort of mantra of survival.
Scene4:
As Mawson stumbles along, he becomes increasingly concerned about the deteriorating state of his health. The verse quoted is from 'Prospice' by Robert Browning.
Scene5:
Maswon has arrived in a well-supplied but unmanned snow cavern called Aladdin's Cave. As remainders of the world outside his solitary pain are invoked, Mawson becomes increasingly hopeful about his survival.

Set in early days of 1913, this remarkable tale of survival is told in three simultaneous levels, Mawson delivers a cery straightforward account of himself and his deteriorating circumstances. The libretto is based on his own sledging journal which is as matter-of-fact and understand as Mawson's speech was reported to have been. He was a scientist and a modest hero who eschewed overstatement; nevertheless, in the Opera his extremity causes occasional outbursts of emotion, despite his stoic spirit.
The strings tell a different tale; their music is complex, often turbulent and conflicted. The music represents Mawson's increasingly troubled interior state as he struggles to come to terms with the grief over the loss of his friends, his longing for home, his physical pain, hunger and exhaustion and the great burdens of loneliness, leadership and apparent powerlessness.
Finally, there are the recorded sounds representing wind, ice, rock and snow. These sounds are not hostile; they are simply indifferent to Mawson and his fate. The ice music is symmetrical and fractal and is based on the hexagonal proportions of ice crystals.
A note on the Libretto:
The libretto of this Opera, written by its composer, is based on events recorded in Douglas Mawson's sledging diaries. Each scene also contains a quotation from a literary work which is known to have been taken south by Mawson's party, except for the final scene which contains a line from a contemporary music-hall song.
Scene 1:
Mawson is burying his friend Mertz, whome he has nursed through terminal illness. Mawson's supplies are milited and he must march immediately to reach safety. The scene includes a quote from the Anglican Burial Service.
Scene2:
Mawson is forced to stay in his tent by a blizzard and worries about the state of his supplies. 'In Memoriam' by Tennyson is quoted.
Scene3:
Having fallen down a crevasse, Mawson forced himself to climb to safety. He repeats a line from 'The Quitter' by Robert Service over and over as a sort of mantra of survival.
Scene4:
As Mawson stumbles along, he becomes increasingly concerned about the deteriorating state of his health. The verse quoted is from 'Prospice' by Robert Browning.
Scene5:
Maswon has arrived in a well-supplied but unmanned snow cavern called Aladdin's Cave. As remainders of the world outside his solitary pain are invoked, Mawson becomes increasingly hopeful about his survival.

Ship trapped in Antarctic ice: 52 people saved

The Australian rescue team said all passengers were now aboard the ship Aurora Australis. They were flown there in groups by a helicopter from a Chinese ice-breaker. The ship had been stuck since Christmas Eve when it became trapped by thick sheets of ice about 1,500 nautical miles south of the Australian state of Tasmania. Rescuers in Antarctica have reportedly transferred all 52 people from the stranded research vessel Akademik Shokalskiy to safety. The Australian rescue team said all passengers were now aboard the ship Aurora Australis. They were flown there in groups by a helicopter from a Chinese ice-breaker. The ship had been stuck since Christmas Eve when it became trapped by thick sheets of ice about 1,500 nautical miles south of the Australian state of Tasmania. The vessel is being used by the Australasian Antarctic Expedition to follow the route explorer Douglas Mawson travelled a century ago. Report by Charlotte Cross.

This is a beautifully written and illustrated history of Mawson's Huts, the unique buildings used as the base for one of the most significant expeditions in Antarctic history. The Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) of 1911–1914, led by the young Australian geologist Dr Douglas Mawson, who was later knighted for his efforts, was not only one of the last great voyages of the Heroic Era, it was by far the most successful of its time in scientific terms. The results of the AAE's investigations were still being published 30 years later. Mawson's team of 31 expeditioners, with an average age of just 26, established three bases. The main one was built at Cape Denison, Commonwealth Bay, where in January and February 1912 they built the wooden hut from Oregon and Baltic pine that was to be their home for two years. It was from here that the disaster and heroism of Mawson's far eastern sledging party continues to frame the popular perception of his legendary polar explorations. After the death of his two sledging companions, Dr. Xavier Mertz and Lieutenant Belgrave Ninnis, Mawson walked for a month, starving and alone, back to Cape Denison, only to see his ship departing in the distance. The fragile wooden hut where he had to spend a further year with six companions is now a historic site, and is being conserved by the Mawson's Huts Foundation in partnership with the Australian Antarctic Division. Formed in 1996, the Foundation is raising funds from the Australian Government and corporate and private sponsors to ensure that this vital part of Australia's Antarctic heritage remains intact. The Mawson's Huts Historic Site consists of the main hut, magnetograph house, the transit hut, the ruined absolute magnetic hut, and a memorial cross to Ninnis and Mertz, along with a plaque recording the territorial claim Mawson made on his return for one night in 1931. The Cape Denison site is also recognized internationally under the Antarctic Treaty as a Historic Site and Monument, an Antarctic Specially Protected Area, and an Antarctic Specially Managed Area. It is also inscribed on both the National Heritage and Commonwealth Heritage registers.

Sir Douglas Mawson's air-tractor sledge was a converted fixed-wing aircraft taken on the 1911–14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition, the first plane to be taken to the Antarctic. Expedition leader Douglas Mawson had planned to use the Vickers R.E.P. Type Monoplane as a reconnaissance and search and rescue tool, and to assist in publicity, but the aircraft crashed heavily during a test flight in Adelaide, Australia, only two months before Mawson's scheduled departure date. The plane was nevertheless sent south with the expedition, after having been stripped of its wings and metal sheathing from the fuselage. Engineer Frank Bickerton spent most of the 1912 winter working to convert it to a sledge, fashioning brakes from a pair of geological drills and a steering system from the plane's landing gear. It was first tested on 15 November 1912 and subsequently assisted in laying depots for the summer sledging parties, but its use during the expedition was minimal.

During the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 2013-2014 (http://www.spiritofmawson.com/) we pioneered a 65 kilometre route through an iceberg cemetery and over one metre thick sea ice to reach Sir Douglas Mawson's Huts at 67˚S -- a time capsule from the Edwardian age. It was an exhilarating journey!
Using all terrain vehicles known as Argos (a big thanks to Gary and the team at http://www.argoatv.com.au/ who helped kit us out) we delivered several science teams and a conservation group from the Mawson's Huts Foundation (http://www.mawsons-huts.org.au/) to the site. One of our scientists, Dr Graeme Clark, took this awesome 3D footage around the site. The film gives a real sense of what it's like to visit this magical place.

If Sir Douglas Mawson could survive two years at Cape Denison considered the windiest place in Antarctica and on earth, Don and Margie decided they could do the same. Following a hectic year of planning and another crazy year of preparation, reminiscent of mounting a military operation, they set course south in a new 18.5mtr Expedition Yacht "Spirit of Sydney" on Don's 40th birthday. Roald Amundsen
Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen (Norwegian: [ˈɾuːɑl ˈɑmʉnsən]; 16 July 1872 – c. 18 June 1928) was a Norwegian explorer of polar regions. He led the Antarctic expedition (1910–12) to become the first men to reach the South Pole in December 1911. In 1926, he was the first expedition leader to be recognized without dispute as having reached the North Pole. He is also known as the first to traverse the Northwest Passage (1903–06). He disappeared in June 1928 while taking part in a rescue mission. Amundsen, Douglas Mawson, Robert Falcon Scott, and Ernest Shackleton were key expedition leaders during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. This video is targeted to blind users. Historie skupiny MAWSON vypůjčená z jejich officiální stránky mawson.cz Naše skupina byla založena v létě roku 1992 Robertem Hrůzou (Bob), Romanem Brožíčkem (Bowi) a Petrem Ajšmanem. Měli jsme velké ideály a mysleli si, že budeme brzy slavní a mít svět u nohou. I z toho důvodu jsme hledali název, který by byl universální pro Čechy i celý svět. Nakonec nám pomohl glóbus a tam výzkumná Australská stanice na Antarktidě - MAWSON. V překladu to znamená „bachratý (žaludeční) syn". Z velkých snů nakonec zbyl jen název. K Bobovi, Bowimu a Petrovi přibyl Pepa Černý a mohli jsme začít. Role byly rozdány takto: Bob-zpěv, kytara; Bowi-baskytara, zpěv; Petr-sólová kytara,zpěv a Pepa-bicí. Začínali jsme se „španělkama" jen Bowi na ní měl o dvě struny méně a bicí byly z velkého kufru, krabic a poklic. ... -

A record of the 1954 Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition, which relieved the scientific stations at Macquarie and Heard Islands and established a new station at Mawson on MacRobertson Land in Australian Antarctic Territory. The film describes the expedition's departure from Melbourne in December 1953 and follows its 12,000 mile journey through high seas and pack ice, providing an insight into daily life at the stations and the challenges presented by often difficult conditions. IRIS/SSA Distinguished lecturer Douglas A. Weins, Washington University in St. Louis. The continent of Antarctica supports the largest ice sheets in the world. The history of the ice sheets is intertwined with the geological history of continent, involving processes such as mountain building, the response of the land to the weight of glaciers, and heat flow melting and lubricating the bottom of the ice sheet. Very little is known about the history of Antarctica because the ice sheets preclude the usual geological sampling and mapping, so seismology offers a method to “see through the ice” and understand the continent beneath. If Sir Douglas Mawson could survive two years at Cape Denison considered the windiest place in Antarctica and on earth, Don and Margie decided they could do the same. Following a hectic year of planning and another crazy year of preparation, reminiscent of mounting a military operation, they set course south in a new 18.5mtr Expedition Yacht "Spirit of Sydney" on Don's 40th birthday. Low in the water with five tonne of equipment that voyage became a challenge in itself, pushing through the pack Ice and extreme conditions. This was Margie's first visit to Antarctica. They built a 2.4mtr x 3.6mtr box, chained to rocks, just 400 meters from Mawson's Hut. Waving goodbye to the crew and left in total isolation for the coming year, they become the first ever colonialists to occupy Antarctica. It was a year of adventure, discovery and exploration, not only of Antarctica, but of themselves. It was tough for both of them. The effects of constant blizzards and the intensity of an Antarctic winter, when all the animals left, played with their minds. At times, they were trapped for up to 20 days in "Gadget Hut" their little box. Their outreach on Antarctic issues was massive, thanks to a regular weekly schools program and live tele-conferencing via sat phone, to New Zealand, Australia, Japan and America. When the sun finally came back Margie cried. When the first Penguins returned in October, she cried again and when "Spirit of Sydney" finally overcame some serious challenges and sailed into boat harbour to pick them both up, she cried for one last time. Returning to Hobart with 90 new Teddy bears (hand crafted by Margie during that year) was a triumphant return reported around the world. This intrepid year was the subject of an award winning Documentary and bestselling book of the same name, "Two Below Zero". (DVD and Book available for sale). Gadget Hut remained onsite and in 1997 after a global search for a volunteer, Don sent Alfred Winkle Mayer south on "Spirit of Sydney" to live for a year in it alone. It was not a good experiment. In 1999 following another selection process, they placed Jim and Yvonne Claypole in Gadget Hut for a year. With another solid outreach and school's program it was a huge success.

澳大利亚海事安全局1月2号在推特上证实，〝绍卡利斯基院士号〞（MV Akademik Shokalskiy）上的52名乘客，已经都被救出，搭上了澳大利亚的破冰船〝南极光号〞（Aurora Australis）。
这52名被救乘客包括科学家和游客，他们分批搭乘中国的〝雪鹰12〞直升机，撤离到〝南极光号〞附近的冰面上，然后乘坐小艇，登上〝南极光号〞。〝绍卡利斯基院士号〞上则有另外22名船员按计划继续留守。

Historie skupiny MAWSON vypůjčená z jejich officiální stránky mawson.cz
Naše skupina byla založena v létě roku 1992 Robertem Hrůzou (Bob), Romanem Brožíčkem (Bowi) a Petrem Ajšmanem. Měli jsme velké ideály a mysleli si, že budeme brzy slavní a mít svět u nohou. I z toho důvodu jsme hledali název, který by byl universální pro Čechy i celý svět. Nakonec nám pomohl glóbus a tam výzkumná Australská stanice na Antarktidě - MAWSON. V překladu to znamená „bachratý (žaludeční) syn". Z velkých snů nakonec zbyl jen název. K Bobovi, Bowimu a Petrovi přibyl Pepa Černý a mohli jsme začít. Role byly rozdány takto: Bob-zpěv, kytara; Bowi-baskytara, zpěv; Petr-sólová kytara,zpěv a Pepa-bicí. Začínali jsme se „španělkama" jen Bowi na ní měl o dvě struny méně a bicí byly z velkého kufru, krabic a poklic. V této sestavě bylo natočeny tři písničky Pivo, Životní zkušenost a Mládí (podzim 1992). Pak zůstal Bowi a Bob, kteří v červnu 1993 odehrály první koncert v Perštejně u Klášterce nad Ohří. Po roce se pak vrátil Pepa a časem se přidal i Zdeněk Přibyl(Zdeny), který hrál na kytaru. V této sestavě jsme nahráli první live demo nahrávku v naší zkušebně v Toužimském zámku s názvem Czech Made (březen 1995). Časem začal hrát další člen Míra Pavlík-klávesové nástroje, Pepu u bicích vystřídal Pavel Černý. Tato sestava vydržela do konce roku 1996, kdy se rozpadla na dvě skupiny Ebola Zaire a Mawson. V Mawsonu zůstal Bob, Pavel, vrátil se Petr Ajšman a přišel baskytarák Jirka Chaloupek (Chaluha). Po půl roce vystřídal Petra Ajšmana u kytary Pepa Pavlíček. Přibývalo i koncertů a v létě roku 1998 jsme natáčely naše první oficiální CD ve studiu Attack s názvem Jsme lepší....? Po půl roce přišlo druhé nahrávání písně Úsvit, následovaly koncerty jako předkapela Pestalozzi a Kečupu. Po semifinále rockové soutěže Sokolovna rock open, kde jsme byli druzí, odešli Pepa i Pavel do skupiny Skeleton (jaro 2000). Po půl roce hledání muzikantů a zkušebny jsme v říjnu poprvé zkoušeli a dávali dohromady starý a nový repertoár. K Bobovi a Chaluhovi přišel nový sólový kytarista Petr Pospíšil (Čáry) a basák Martin Slabý. V lednu 2001 jsme měli premiéru v novém složení jako předkapela skupiny Argema. V únoru nás čekala nahrávka dvou písní Pro Tebe a Závislost v Karlovarském studiu Musicservice. Následovalo mnoho koncertů v západních Čechách, festival v Děpoltovicích, semifinále soutěže Bítová liga v Plzni, atd. Bohužel i tato sestava se po tříletém svazku rozpadla. Hlavním důvodem byla pracovní vytíženost a s tím spojená ztráta chuti k hraní. Po půl roce bez hudby jsme, ale opět začali mít „choutky" si někde zabrnkat. Byl i nápad udělat konečný koncert Mawsonu se všemi dosavadními sestavami. Vše ale ztroskotalo na nedostatku času a problémem se zkušebnou. Na podzim roku 2004 se Bob se Zdeňkem Přibylem rozhodli znovu začít hrát. Nová skupina měla mít název Clackson, ale získání dalších členů kapely a zkušebny odsoudily toto seskupení opět k zániku. Až v létě 2005 domluvil Petr Ajšman vystoupení na slavnostech v Krásném Údolí u Toužimi a měsíc před vystoupením jsme museli zajistit zkušebnu, dát dohromady muzikanty a naučit se aspoň 12 písniček na vystoupení, které se nakonec uskutečnilo a tak začala další éra Mawsonu.. A kdo vůbec v té době tvořil Mawson? Bob-kytara, zpěv; Chaluha-zpěv,akustická kytara; Zdeny-kytara; Petr Ajšman-basa; Pavel Černý-bicí.
V létě 2006 odchází Petr Ajšman a děláme „škatulata, hejbejte se." Ze zaniklé kapely CRASH přichází kytarista Pepa Pavlíček a Zdeny se chopil basy a zároveň také měníme zkušebnu a stěhujeme se z Polikna do Toužimi. Bohužel v černu 2007 musel ze zdravotních důvodů na čas odejít Zdeny Přibyl, kterého na basu nahradil do září Milan Flígr, se kterým jsme odehráli během léta okolo patnácti vystoupení. Na podzim 2007 se opět vrátil Zdeny na basu a začali jsme připravovat oslavy 15.let od založení skupiny. Oslava proběhla v Toužimské sokolovně na sklonku roku za účasti třech spřátelených kapel a velkého zájmu fanoušků-bylo to fakt super. V lednu už nadobro odchází Zdeny z kapely a nahrazuje ho na basu Michal Matoušek, který má zkušenosti i z punkových a HC kapel.
A co chystáme do budoucna: koncertování po naší krásné vlasti, nahrávání nového CD a hrát a hrát a hrát........
Tak to je zhruba naše historie, možná trochu nudná, ale je to vše, co se dalo zveřejnit. Jinak těch dnes víc než 15 let bylo nabyto skvělým přátelstvím a akcema na plnej plyn, na který určitě nikdy nezapomeneme. Na dalším koncertě se na Vás všechny těší celý MAWSON.

The film describes the expedition's departure from Melbourne in December 1953 and follows its 12,000 mile journey through high seas and pack ice, providing an insight into daily life at the stations and the challenges presented by often difficult conditions. There is stunning footage of towering icebergs and masses of penguins as well as aerial reconnaissance and surveillance. Made by The National Film Board 1954. Directed by Phillip Law. This film won the AGFA award for Best 16mm Colour Film at the Rapallo Film Festival, Italy 1955. The continent of Antarctica supports the largest ice sheets in the world. The history of the ice sheets is intertwined with the geological history of continent, involving processes such as mountain building, the response of the land to the weight of glaciers, and heat flow melting and lubricating the bottom of the ice sheet. Very little is known about the history of Antarctica because the ice sheets preclude the usual geological sampling and mapping, so seismology offers a method to “see through the ice” and understand the continent beneath. Recent advances in technology now allow autonomous seismographs to be deployed across the continent for the first time.
In this presentation I will discuss projects that are installing seismographs across Antarctica and summarize recent discoveries. New results reveal that East Antarctica represents an ancient continent, with an average geological age of greater than one billion years and with highlands supported by thick continental crust. In contrast, West Antarctica shows evidence of recent tectonic activity, and high heat flow that may lubricate the base of the ice sheet. The seismographs record earthquakes from magma movement associated with volcanoes beneath the ice. The high mantle temperatures suggest low mantle viscosity, such that the response of the land to ice mass changes will occur within a few hundred years. These insights are changing the way we model the recent history of the ice sheet.
Seismograms also provide important constraints on the movement and forces acting on the ice sheets. “Icequakes” ranging from very small cracking events near the surface of the ice sheet to massive crevassing and calving episodes produce unique seismic signals that help reveal the physics of ice movement. The largest signals come from a unique region on the Whillans Ice Stream, where a 100 mile-long section of the ice stream lurches forward twice a day, triggered by ocean tides, and sending seismic waves traveling across the entire continent. This unusual behavior may signal the slowing down of this ice stream in response to changes in the amount of water along the ice stream bed.

The largest signals come from a unique region on the Whillans Ice Stream, where a 100 mile-long section of the ice stream lurches forward twice a day, triggered by ocean tides, and sending seismic waves traveling across the entire continent. This unusual behavior may signal the slowing down of this ice stream in response to changes in the amount of water along the ice stream bed.
