I personally took this video today, September 16, 2009. As I was waiting to deplane Continental Flight 734 at Gate 127 in Newark Liberty Airport today, I looked out the window saw this baggage handler abusing the passengers' luggage. It was appalling. Another baggage handler got her attention and pointed out that the passengers still aboard were watching her. She then immediately stopped tossing the bags to the ground and began doing her job the right way. Video captured on G1 Google phone at about 2:55 PM EDT.

In the airline industry, a baggage handler is a person who loads and unloads baggage (suitcases or luggage), and other cargo (airfreight, mail, counter-to-counter packages) for transport via aircraft. With most airlines, the formal job title is "Fleet Service Agent or Clerk", though the position is commonly known as a "Ramp Agent", due to the job's location on the airport ramp (tarmac), amongst airline employees.
Within the airline industry, baggage handler is often referred to as a "Rampie" or "Ramper": one who handles cargo on the "ramp" (outside the airline industry, the ramp is popularly referred to as the "tarmac", a term popularized by the media) Although the technical term is AOA (Aircraft Operation Area). Offensive terms for Rampie/Ramper are "Ramp Rat," "Bag Smasher", "Bag Jockey", "Luggage Monkey", and "Thrower."
A baggage handler also work jobs which are out of view of the flying public. Some of those places are the bag room, operations (or load control), and the air freight warehouse. Some of these jobs have union representation and due to this baggage handlers can be very well compensated with an above average pay scale and good medical, retirement and benefits packages.

Another baggage handler got her attention and pointed out that the passengers still aboard were watching her. She then immediately stopped tossing the bags to the ground and began doing her job the right way. Video captured on G1 Google phone at about 2:55 PM EDT. -

While not exactly a lock picking video I thought you might find this interesting. In my job I travel to several African countries, usually for a month or so at a time. I was motivated to make this video because every time we get a FNG (Fine New Guy) they show up with one of these soft sided suitcases. Then, almost 100% of the time they get ripped off as we pass through one of the African airports. We've had suitcases and work boxes broken into in Uganda, Kenya, Mali, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa, and Mozambique. Of course, we've also had complete suitcases disappear in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan (of course these countries are NOT in Africa), but there's just no protection against entire suitcases disappearing... The hard case is made by Pelica... -

For those crazies out there, I'm definitely not a racist. If I saw this happening at any airport it would have been the same comments. Its about the job being done not the race. I have had freight damaged numerous times myself and this type of treatment of other's property is unacceptable. Incidentally, my better half is Chinese!

While not exactly a lock picking video I thought you might find this interesting. In my job I travel to several African countries, usually for a month or so at a time. The hard case is made by Pelican Corporation & weight 3.2kg - not SO bad - but it still cuts into your weight allowance. I like to think of it as paying "insurance" because too many times I've arrived in some out-of-the-way place and find that someone has stolen my shoes, or shaving kit, or suit bag out of my suitcase.

We've had suitcases and work boxes broken into in Uganda, Kenya, Mali, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa, and Mozambique. Of course, we've also had complete suitcases disappear in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan (of course these countries are NOT in Africa), but there's just no protection against entire suitcases disappearing...
The hard case is made by Pelican Corporation & weight 3.2kg - not SO bad - but it still cuts into your weight allowance. I like to think of it as paying "insurance" because too many times I've arrived in some out-of-the-way place and find that someone has stolen my shoes, or shaving kit, or suit bag out of my suitcase.

Next time I will box my bike! I noticed that the baggage handlers were growing increasingly impatient as they were struggling to get some luggage out, so I whipped out my camera. They finally got my friend's solo bike outside the cart and dropped it on the asphalt before kicking it. This happened on Saturday November 14th on the Cubana flight CU171 from Montreal to Havana.
