The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a type of organelle in the cells of eukaryotic organisms that forms an interconnected network of flattened, membrane-enclosed sacs or tube-like structures known as cisternae. The membranes of the ER are continuous with the outer nuclear membrane. Endoplasmic reticulum occurs in most types of eukaryotic cells, including the most primitive Giardia, but is absent from red blood cells and spermatozoa. There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum, rough and smooth. The outer (cytosolic) face of the rough endoplasmic reticulum is studded with ribosomes that are the sites of protein synthesis. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is especially prominent in cells such as hepatocytes. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum lacks ribosomes and functions in lipid manufacture and metabolism, the production of steroid hormones, and detoxification. The smooth ER is especially abundant in mammalian liver and gonad cells. The lacy membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum were first seen in 1945 using electron microscopy.
Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization created in 2006 by educator Salman Khan with the aim of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. The organization produces short lectures in the form of YouTube videos. In addition to micro lectures, the organization's website features practice exercises and tools for educators. All resources are available for free to anyone around the world. The main language of the website is English, but the content is also available in other languages.
The founder of the organization, Salman Khan, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States to immigrant parents from Bangladesh and India. After earning three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (a BS in mathematics, a BS in electrical engineering and computer science, and an MEng in electrical engineering and computer science), he pursued an MBA from Harvard Business School.
In late 2004, Khan began tutoring his cousin Nadia who needed help with math using Yahoo!'s Doodle notepad. When other relatives and friends sought similar help, he decided that it would be more practical to distribute the tutorials on YouTube. The videos' popularity and the testimonials of appreciative students prompted Khan to quit his job in finance as a hedge fund analyst at Connective Capital Management in 2009, and focus on the tutorials (then released under the moniker "Khan Academy") full-time.
Gogol Bordello is a Gypsy punk band from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, formed in 1999 and known for theatrical stage shows and persistent touring. Much of the band's sound is inspired by Gypsy music mixed with punk and dub. The band incorporates accordion and violin (and on some albums, saxophone).
The band has appeared in a number of popular films, most notably in 2005's Everything Is Illuminated in which the lead singer, Eugene Hütz, co-starred with Elijah Wood in a dramedy and adventure story about the Nazi purges in Ukraine. The entire group was present for one shot in which they played a brass band in a set that included the Star Spangled Banner. They also played the traditional Yiddish tune "Bublitschki". Gogol Bordello contributed the song "Start Wearing Purple" to the film's score. The band also has their own documentary called Gogol Bordello Non-Stop. This documentary was filmed in 2008 and follows the band's progress. In 2012, the band recorded a song titled Let's Get Crazy for Coca Cola's Euro 2012 advertising campaign.

We can think of our rough endoplasmic reticulum as the primary protein folding and processing centre within the cell. It is also quite special in that it is continuous with the outer lipid layer of the phospholipid bilayer of the nucleus. In this video we will go into detail about the functions of the RER and its components.

Thank you all for being so incredibly supportive, loving, and uplifting as I continue to share my life with you on social media. I have begun a whole new chapter and journey, and I knew as soon as I was ready to let you all in, that I would one day share my story. I decided to finally open up on snapchat a few weeks ago, and since then, so many of you have been commenting on my Instagram and opening up yourselves to me as well, with stories of your own pregnancy struggles and new-found inspiration & hope through my talk. As requested, I have finally found a way to upload this onto my youtube channel for those who missed it and want to know what happened. Here it is... raw and taken straight from snapchat via phone recording as the story was too long to save directly. I hope this helps some...

In the Review of Cytology; Part 2 Professor Fink describes the roles of embedded Proteins in the Cell Membranes and the two types of Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) in cells (Smooth ER & "Rough" ER). Included among the roles of Membrane Proteins are Ion Channels, Transporter (Carrier) Proteins, Enzymes, Receptor Sites and Glycoprotein Recognition Sites (Cell Identity Markers; MHC proteins). Reference is also made to "Self" versus "Foreign" and Auto-Immune Diseases. Check-out professor fink's web-site or additional resources in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology & Pharmacology: www.professorfink.com Down-loadable e-books of the Lecture Outlines by Professor Fink (as well as "hard copy" versions) can be purchased from the WLAC Bookstore at: http://onlinestore.wlac.edu/fink.asp
Note: Forgot to add... Mitochondria and chloroplasts have their own Ribosomes. However, they are smaller (70S) than the others. Free ribosomes (actually bound to the cytoskeleton) / those found on the rough ER are slightly larger (80S). Interestingly the ribosomes found in prokaryotes are also 70S -this is evidence supporting the hypothesis that chloroplasts / ribosomes may have developed from prokaryote (bacterial) cell that were engulfed by a larger ancestral Eukaryote cell.
Virgil's always been known for having a somewhat active, er, social life, but he's probably not going to be getting too many opportunities for that during his new case. While competing in a fishing tournament in a remote area of northern Minnesota, he gets a call from Lucas Davenport to investigate a murder at a nearby resort, where a woman has been shot while kayaking. The resort is for women only, a place to relax, get fit, recover from plastic surgery, commune with nature, and while it didn't start out to be a place mostly for those with Sapphic inclinations, that's pretty much what it is today. Which makes things all the more complicated for Virgil, because as he begins investigating, he finds a web of connections between the people at the resort, the victim, and some local women, nota...
After over one and a half years, today we bring you the final episode of the first season of the Redstone Quarry Podcast (abbreviated as the ever-less fitting acronym "TRQ"), with no plans for further seasons at this point. Since months have passed since the last episode and some of us have lost track of the technical Minecraft community, we decided to skip the news, however to compensate for this we also did some special segments, including a unique Wintro, "Future" and the return of our initial question: "What is technical Minecraft?" Furthermore we discuss various other topics, which leads to a record-length podcast, and leave you off with the first ever scripted Woutro. The podcast is concluded with a fairly long credits sequence, where we tried to mention everyone who somehow contrib...
Sometimes I move too fast
Sometimes I move too slow
Sometimes I don't move anywhere at all
Lungs black with smoke
Sometimes I wish I said the right thing
But it just keeps getting caught up in my throat
We're all living the same days
But the rhythm keeps keeps on changing
And you can't keep up the pace
With the end in sight
We're just trying to survive
Tired around the eyes
I've been caught so many times
I'm not sure if I've ever been free at all
Guts tied in knots around all this shit we've lost
We're still trying to digest these old ghosts
Life moves way to slow
Like you don't got anywhere good to go
Life moves way to fast
The days and weeks pile up and they won't last
