Cairns is a regional city in the far north of Queensland, Australia, founded 1876. The city was named after William Wellington Cairns, then-current Governor of Queensland. It was formed to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, but experienced a decline when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. It later developed into a railhead and major port for exporting sugar cane, gold and other metals, minerals and agricultural products from surrounding coastal areas and the Atherton Tableland region. As of June 2012, the population is approximately 153,075.

Purpose built as Australia’s capital city, Canberra is a 3-hour drive from both the snowy mountains and the beautiful beaches of New South Wales. It is a city which honors Australia’s past and shapes its future.

Designed for a young nation that was just finding its feet, this city is home to many of the country's most important stories; stories that have come to define what it means to be Australian.
At the heart of Canberra’s creation story is Lake Burley Griffin. A long-standing rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne meant t

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is situated close to the Great Southern Ocean.
It is a compact beachside city that is full of churches, stone buildings and beautiful parklands.
This picturesque city is unusual amongst Australian cities in that it was founded by free settlers, not convicts. Those early founders put a lot of passion into creating a better life for themselves even though they were many thousands of miles from home.
Because of that history, Adelaide has a unique sense of refinement and beauty.

Sydney, Australia Travel Guide - Must-See Attractions
http://bookinghunter.com
Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. Sydney's urban area is in a coastal basin, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Blue Mountains to the west, the Hawkesbury River to the north and the Royal National Park to the south.
The most important places to visit in Sydney are: Sydney Opera House (among the world's most recognized landmarks. Set on the Sydney harbor, it is an unforgettable sight), Sydney Harbor Bridge (simply called "the bridge" by locals, courageous ones can even climb up the bridge), Bronte Beach (lesser known than Bondi, it is a beautiful beach, popular amongst families), Blue Mountains (an unspoiled mountain range filled with Eucalyptus trees. It is located 30 miles from Sydney, and there are plenty of hiking trails), Bondi Beach (Sydney's most famous beach, its lively promenade is as exciting as the beach) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Sydney travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Canberra Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Purpose built as Australia’s capital city, Canberra is a 3-hour drive from both the snowy mountains and the beautiful beaches of New South Wales. It is a city which honors Australia’s past and shapes its future.
With an expansive bush beauty, a relaxed attitude and colorful events, Canberra is far more than a political capital. Designed for a young nation that was just finding its feet, this city is home to many of the country's most important stories; stories that have come to define what it means to be Australian.
At the heart of Canberra’s creation story is Lake Burley Griffin. A long-standing rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne meant that neither one could be the nation’s capital. Instead, in 1911, the government launched an international design competition seeking a master plan for a brand new city.
The victor, Chicago architect Walter Burley Griffin, won with a garden city design focused on a man-made lake which fits perfectly within the landscape.
When, the nation’s Governor General stood in a dusty paddock in 1913 and announced the name of the new capital, he told the nation that the city had, lying before it, a splendid destiny.
Over 100 years later, that destiny has been fulfilled in a city that preserves the great chapters of Australia’s history and continues to write the future pages of the nation’s story.

Adelaide Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
http://www.expedia.com/Adelaide-and-vicinity.d6051330.Destination-Travel-Guides
Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is situated close to the Great Southern Ocean.
It is a compact beachside city that is full of churches, stone buildings and beautiful parklands.
This picturesque city is unusual amongst Australian cities in that it was founded by free settlers, not convicts. Those early founders put a lot of passion into creating a better life for themselves even though they were many thousands of miles from home.
Because of that history, Adelaide has a unique sense of refinement and beauty.
One of the most popular places to visit is Victoria Square which is right in the heart of the city. From here, it is easy to wander along the North Terrace District and admire the graceful buildings and museums which echo with stories from the past.
At the South Australian Museum, visitors can learn about the rich cultures that were in the area before the Europeans arrived.
Another great place to visit is the Art Gallery of South Australia where visitors can enjoy the extensive collections of Australian and International Art.
Don’t miss the legendary Adelaide Oval which many claim to be one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world.
Adelaide is also well known as a gateway to the famous Barossa and Clair Valleys which are a food and wine lovers paradise.
Many of the early settlers to this area were German and they brought with them grapes from their homeland. The area is now well-known for producing outstanding shiraz and reisling.
While you are in the area, stop at any of the many wineries for a wine tasting or to enjoy a meal using fine local produce.
Adelaide is an old world city that attracts visitors for its elegance and romance.

Perth is a must visit if you're thinking of a trip over to Western Australia, the beautiful coastline and Perth attractions make it the ideal place to take family, friends or your partner.

Perth Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
A modern city, Perth is the gem of Australia’s west coast and the capital of Western Australia. This friendly metropolis boasts pristine beaches, clear water, and plenty of coastline – not to mention an abundance of nature and mineral resources.
Start your day of Perth sightseeing with a walk through Kings Park, which is larger than New York’s Central Park and home to the Western Australia Botanic Garden. More than 3,000 species of Western Australia’s plant life, including vibrant flowers, are on display here. Most of the park consists of bushland, which means lots of wildlife and quite a few walking trails.
After a morning of reflection in the park, head over to the Swan Bell Tower to enjoy a spectacular view of the city. Don’t forget your camera! You will notice the diverse nature of Perth’s architecture from this vantage point, including the modern glass structures and London-inspired Tudor buildings.
Perth tours are never complete without a ferry ride to Rottnest Island, affectionately called “Rotto” by the locals. This getaway is rife with opportunities to snorkel in the Indian Ocean, see wildlife such as seals and birds, and travel across more than 31 miles of cycle ways on a rented bicycle.
Once your feet are back on mainland Western Australia, visit one of the jewels, and ultimately what draws much of the Perth tourism: Swan Valley. This region has a landscape peppered with vineyards, no surprise given that growing grapes has been a long-standing tradition in Swan Valley. Following a short (or leisurely paced) day trip to Swan Valley, return to Perth and head to Hillarys Boat Harbour for a sunset dinner.

Another Queensland ad. Personally I would've called it Chicketti, and that's what Red Rooster did when they tried the same trick years later. As many wise people have said, Queensland is...different.
This is another generously provided ad from Flemishdog's amazing Umatic collection, if you want to see more of it head over to his channel. I'm seriously impressed at how good this looks from 1980.

Kentucky Fried Chicken - Spachooki - Australia, 1980
Another Queensland ad. Personally I would've called it Chicketti, and that's what Red Rooster did when they tried the same trick years later. As many wise people have said, Queensland is...different.
This is another generously provided ad from Flemishdog's amazing Umatic collection, if you want to see more of it head over to his channel. I'm seriously impressed at how good this looks from 1980.

Mental As Anything – “Egypt” (UK Virgin) 1980
Written by Reg Mombassa. Produced by Cameron Allan.
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Mental As Anything released their first album, “Get Wet” in Australia in 1979 and it charted at #19. It featured their first three Australian singles, one of which was “Egypt”, written by group member, Reg Mombassa.
“Egypt” was the band’s second UK release following “The Nips Are Getting Bigger”, also on Virgin.
“The band recorded a slew of successful albums and singles in Australia. One of these, the 45, “Live It Up” (featured in the film, “Crocodile Dundee”) reached #3 in the UK in 1987.
Producer Cameron Allan founded the Regular label with Martin Fabinyi in 1978. It was associated with the bigger Australian label, Festival. Mr. Allan was also working with Australian groups such as Flowers, Icehouse (both on Regular) and the Sports around the time of this release.
