"Aegukga" (Korean pronunciation: [ɛːɡukk͈a]; English: "Patriotic Song") is the national anthem of South Korea. It was written around 1896. The exact origins are unknown, but the current official version was established in August 15, 1948.
There are many theories concerning the composer of the currently official version of "Aegukga". It is most commonly believed that the lyrics of the song were written for the cornerstone-laying ceremony of the Independence Gate in Seoul in 1896 by Yun Chi-ho, a Korean politician. Other theories name the composer as An Chang-ho,Choi Byung-Hun, Kim In-Sik, Min Yeong-hwan, or some combination of the aforementioned composers. The "Committee to search for the composer of 'Aegukga'" was established in 1955 by the government on the request of the United States, but the committee concluded that there was not enough evidence to name a composer.
Initially, "Aegukga" was sung to the tune of the Scottish folk song "Auld Lang Syne", introduced to Korea by Western missionaries. The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea (1919--1945) in China adopted it as their national anthem. At a ceremony celebrating the founding of South Korea on 15 August 1948, the Scottish tune was finally replaced by the Finale of "Korea Fantasia", which Ahn Eak-tai had composed in 1935. The new "Aegukga" was later adopted by the Presidential Decree of 1948 by the then South Korean President Syngman Rhee (or Lee Seungman).
I mean no offense to the countries parodied. In fact, most of these countries are my favorites, and I wish them all my best. The Republic of Korea is among the top 3 of Asian nations I like.

I started learning national anthems (other than the Philippines' where I come from) in 2009 when I was invited to sing both the Philippines' and Singapore's national anthem for an event in Singapore. Unfortunately, close to the event day, the organisers decided to use a recording instead of a live performance (guess they were unsure of me - haha! but thank goodness). Nevertheless, I continued learning the Singapore national anthem. Inspired by learning the new language, I got interested since then to learn more, especially those of the countries I have visited and the ones in my travel bucket list - as if they will easily let me in at the airport if I can sing their national anthem. Haha!
For an unknown reason, I became unstoppable. I kept learning new ones. Though I was leisurely doing it in the beginning (and would even stop for months), I didn't realise I have already mastered over 20 anthems. And then I started learning more. It became a challenge, especially knowing that I can make it to the "Guinness Book of World Records" if I seriously apply for a new record.
There's a little magic learning the language in every anthem. It is challenging yet very addictive. Besides, I get to understand its origin and the country's rich history as well; a totally different approach to studying the world history. Every anthem is unique and I have fun memories listening to them - while in the train, the bus or even walking home. The experience is special and I simply want to share this beautiful experience to everyone - the feeling of having the world live inside me.]

Aegukga (???) is the national anthem of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) The lyricist of the anthem is unknown, though Yun Chi-ho (尹致昊) and Ahn Changho (安昌浩) are usually accepted to be the lyricists. The composer of the anthem is Ahn Eak-Tai (安益泰).

The Encyclopedia of Korean Culture defines "Aegukga" as "the song to wake up the mind to love the country". "Aegukga" in itself is differentiated from a national anthem. While a national anthem is the official symbol of the country, Aegukga refers to any song, official or unofficial, that contains love towards its country. However, the nationally designated "Aegukga" plays the role of symbolizing the country.
In the 1890s, the previously established Joseon Dynasty began to contact other countries for the first time, including: United States, United Kingdom, and Russia. The meeting with foreign countries gave rise to patriotism, which then created several "Aegugkas". For instance, works in 1896 includes "Aeguka" created by Pil-Gun Na, Myung-One Han, and Yong-Mu Lee.[1] On November 21, 1896, scholars from the Paejae school sang a version of "Aegukga" in the independence door ceremony. However, this song differs from the song sung by the Military Academy in 1898 and from the songs sung on the birthday of the former emperor.[1]
However, A book from the Korean Empire in 1900 has a record of a national anthem. It was called the "Korean Empire Aegukga", or literally the "Anthem of the Greater Korean Empire". The anthem is commonly believed to be written by Franz Eckert.[1][4] Some people contend that records documenting Franz Eckert's actions show that it was physically impossible for him to write the anthem. It is guessed that the song sung by the Paejae school was the Scottish song Auld lang syne and that the song sung by the Military Academy is a version of the British song God Save the Queen.[1]
The song attributed to Eckert was established by the military in 1902. A version of Eckert's song with different lyrics began to be officially implemented in the schools in 1904. All the schools were forced to sing the version of the song. The policy is thought of as a by-product of the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905 and the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1907.[1]

However, this song differs from the song sung by the Military Academy in 1898 and from the songs sung on the birthday of the former emperor.[1] However, A book from the Korean Empire in 1900 has a record of a national anthem. It was called the "Korean Empire Aegukga", or literally the "Anthem of the Greater Korean Empire". For an unknown reason, I became unstoppable. I kept learning new ones. Though I was leisurely doing it in the beginning (and would even stop for months), I didn't realise I have already mastered over 20 anthems. And then I started learning more. It became a challenge, especially knowing that I can make it to the "Guinness Book of World Records" if I seriously apply for a new record.
There's a little magic learning the language in every anthem. It is challenging yet very addictive. Besides, I get to understand its origin and the country's rich history as well; a totally different approach to studying the world history. Every anthem is unique and I have fun memories listening to them - while in the train, the bus or even walking home. The experience is special and I simply want to share this beautiful experience to everyone - the feeling of having the world live inside me.]

The Encyclopedia of Korean Culture defines "Aegukga" as "the song to wake up the mind to love the country". "Aegukga" in itself is differentiated from a national anthem. While a national anthem is the official symbol of the country, Aegukga refers to any song, official or unofficial, that contains love towards its country. However, the nationally designated "Aegukga" plays the role of symbolizing the country.
In the 1890s, the previously established Joseon Dynasty began to contact other countries for the first time, including: United States, United Kingdom, and Russia. The meeting with foreign countries gave rise to patriotism, which then created several "Aegugkas". For instance, works in 1896 includes "Aeguka" created by Pil-Gun Na, Myung-One Han, and Yong-Mu Lee.[1] On November 21, 1896, scholars from the Paejae school sang a version of "Aegukga" in the independence door ceremony. However, this song differs from the song sung by the Military Academy in 1898 and from the songs sung on the birthday of the former emperor.[1]
However, A book from the Korean Empire in 1900 has a record of a national anthem. It was called the "Korean Empire Aegukga", or literally the "Anthem of the Greater Korean Empire". The anthem is commonly believed to be written by Franz Eckert.[1][4] Some people contend that records documenting Franz Eckert's actions show that it was physically impossible for him to write the anthem. It is guessed that the song sung by the Paejae school was the Scottish song Auld lang syne and that the song sung by the Military Academy is a version of the British song God Save the Queen.[1]
The song attributed to Eckert was established by the military in 1902. A version of Eckert's song with different lyrics began to be officially implemented in the schools in 1904. All the schools were forced to sing the version of the song. The policy is thought of as a by-product of the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905 and the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1907.[1]
There are many theories concerning the composer of the currently official version of "Aegukga". It is most commonly believed that the lyrics of the song were written for the cornerstone-laying ceremony of the Independence Gate in Seoul in 1896 by Yun Chi-ho, a Korean politician.[1][5] Other theories name the composer as An Chang-ho, Choi Byung-Hun, Kim In-Sik, Min Yeong-hwan, or some combination of the aforementioned composers. The "Committee to search for the composer of 'Aegukga'" was established in 1955 by the government on the request of the United States, but the committee concluded that there was not enough evidence to name a composer.[6]
Initially, "Aegukga" was sung to the tune of the Scottish folk song "Auld Lang Syne", introduced to Korea by Western missionaries. The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea (1919--1945) in Shanghai, China adopted it as their national anthem. At a ceremony celebrating the founding of South Korea on 15 August 1948, the Scottish tune was finally replaced by the Finale of "Korea Fantasia", which Ahn Eak-tai had composed in 1935. The new "Aegukga" was later adopted by the Presidential Decree of 1948 by the then South Korean President Syngman Rhee (or Lee Seungman).

Seoul, South Korea, is truly an amazing city to visit! It's modern, easy to navigate and there's little something everyone will enjoy. The Seoul subway system makes it easy to get around town and discover exactly what the giant city has to offer.
Surrounded by Japan and China, Seoul and South Korea sometimes doesn't get all the attention is deserves . Korea is home to a unique culture, cuisine and a fascinating history. If you ever have the chance to visit Seoul, you'll have a great time!
I traveled to Seoul Korea and was able to do all kinds of things, but I've narrowed this list down to twenty five of the best things to do in Seoul - of course there are other things as well but this list is just the beginning and intended to get your ideas and travel imagination flowing!
Anyway, on to the top Seoul attractions, here's the list in case you can't see the video:

However, even though there are so many places to see and go, probably my favorite of all is eating and sampling delicious Korean food! Korean food is so good and there are so many restaurants everywhere you look in Seoul that it can truly be considered a foodie's paradise.
If you get a chance to visit Seoul I hope your'e able to do all these wonderful things while you're there!

Seoul is the country’s economic and cultural centre, a metropolis of twelve million inhabitants who are proud of their ancient culture. The War Museum is a reminder of the Forgotten War when the United States of America and twenty other countries took part in a United Nations military operation to support South Korea against the forces North Korea and China. Thirty kilometres south of Seoul is the fortress town of Suwon where at the end of the eighteenth century the Hwaseong Fortress was built, now a World Heritage Sight. South Korea’s most famous monastery is located in the Gaya-San National Park. Today the complex and its ninety buildings have become one of the main Buddhist centres in the East.. Tumuli Park is situated in the centre of Kyong Ju, former capital of the Silla Kingdom and contains twenty three royal tombs that look from the outside like large green hills. A huge number of valuable finds were made here thus the National Museum was created in which more than a hundred and fifty thousand exhibits from prehistoric times right up to the Joseon Dynasty are on display. Jeju island is a unique holiday paradise, a volcanic island with temples, waterfalls, tea plantations and several leisure facilities. For Koreans as well as the Japanese, Jeju Island has, due to its tropical climate, become a very popular honeymoon destination. When during dinner a volcano erupts and laser gods battle against each other, the Korean people are reminded of the fact that they have withstood invasion by the Mongols, Chinese and Japanese. At the climax of the show a fiery dragon appears: his sole task to protect glorious South Korea!

Jejudo is a volcanic island, 130 km from the southern coast of Korea. The largest island and smallest province in Korea, the island has a surface area of 1,846 sqkm. A central feature of Jeju is Hallasan, the tallest mountain in South Korea and a dormant volcano, which rises 1,950 m above sea level. 360 satellite volcanoes are around the main volcano.

Greetings from the President of World Peace Orchestra!
We are delighted that you will be joining our orchestra next month in Korea.
On behalf of Korean War Memorial Foundation, it is my pleasure to welcome all of you
who have joined the Word Peace Orchestra for our special event here in Korea.
As this year marks the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, the purpose
of this concert is to commemorate the UN Forces who gave their precious lives for
the freedom of Korea during the Korean War, and to seek continuous peace in not
only the Korean peninsula but also the world. It will be momentous national event in
association with Ministry of Patriots & Veterans Affairs, Ministry of National Defense,
Gyeonggi Province, Busan Metropolitan City, and Korean Broadcasting System as one of
Korean War Memorial Foundation's 7 projects for 60th Anniversary of the Korean War
Armistice.
Sixty three years ago, many unknown Heroes left their beloved families and headed for
a country that they had never heard of in order to defend the freedom and democracy
of Korea. Their sacrifice, blood, and labor allowed the Republic of Korea to have
peace and stand where they are today. The Republic of Korea now boasts as the 13th
largest economy in the world and has transformed itself from an aid recipient to an aid
donor. We have not forgotten that these accomplishments have been achieved on the
foundation that was forged by the noble sacrifices of the UN Forces. We will not and
cannot forget their dedication and sacrifice.
The World Peace Orchestra is the first ever orchestra that consists of musicians who
are from 21 different countries that had participated as UN Forces during the Korean
War. WPO's World Peace Concert is purposefully conducted to eternally remember
the undeniable fact that so many lives were sacrificed during the war. The beautiful
melodies and harmonies that will ring forth at Dorasan Station and Busan Cultural
Center, located right front of The UN Memorial Cemetery in Korea, will serve to honor
and recognize not only the precious lives that were lost but also the brave and heroic
veterans that stand today.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has made this concert tour
possible.
I hope that this will be one of the most memorable events you experience.
