Vara Vara Rao lambasts atrocities by State
Warangal: Revolutionary poet P Vara Vara Rao (VV) launched a broadside against the State government, citing police atrocities against the former Maoists and their sympathisers. Addressing a press conference along with former Maoist sympathiser Dara Saraiah here on Monday, he asserted that any ‘encounter’ in the State is some way or other way is connected to Warangal police. He questioned the rationale behind police’s swoop on the house of Saraiah, a resident of Munipalli village under Hasanparthy mandal, on March 1 although the latter has been eking out a livelihood by running an auto-rickshaw for the last few years. “The police who rounded up the house of Saraiah at around 7 pm on March 1 threatened him to come out of his house.
When he didn’t come out, the police broke the ventilator window and threatened Saraiah, his mother and his wife,” Rao narrated the incident. Rao said that it’s not fair on part of K Chandrashekar Rao-government to create terror among these innocent people. “Earlier on February 7, 2014, the four-member special police party kidnapped and took me to Hyderabad where they threatened me to carry a covert operation to kill the top Maoist leaders Haribhushan, Damodar and Prabhakar by feeding them with poisoned food,” Saraiah alleged, explaining his ordeals with the police.
He said: “The police threatened to kill me if I didn’t heed to their conspiracy. Unable to bear the pressure, I attempted suicide. After listening this, my father died of heart stroke.” Later, representatives of Civil Liberties Committee, Amaraveerula Bandhumitrula Sangham, Telangana Praja Front, Saraiah’ wife and mother also spoke. Raising doubts over the presence of a few persons, who are not related to the media at the start of the press conference, Vara Vara Rao appealed those outsiders to leave the premises.
Police trying to kill former naxalite Saraiah: Varavara
Revolutionary poet Varavara Rao accused the police of trying to kill former naxalite Dara Saraiah, who is now eking out a living driving an autorickshaw. A group of police raided the house of Saraiah at Munipalli village on March 1 and terrorised the whole family. “In 2014, he was kidnapped by SIB police and produced before the SP. The police wanted him to poison top naxal leaders Haribhushan, Damodar and Prabhakar using his contacts. He refused to do and attempted suicide by consuming poison,” Mr. Rao said.
Maoist bandh disrupts life in Odisha’s Rayagada & Kalahandi
Normal life was paralysed in five blocks of Odisha’s Rayagada and Kalahandi districts today as Maoists called for a bandh protesting against an alleged fake encounter of a tribal youth. While vehicular traffic came to a standstill, most shops remained closed in Rayagada, Kalyansingpur, Bishamcuttack, Muniguda, and Lanjigarh blocks because of the bandh. Passengers were seen stranded in bus stops. Even though there have been no reports of violence so far, security forces have tightened patrolling to avoid any untoward incident.
Notably, CPI(Maoist) Niyamgiri Area Commitee Secretary Sukhdev on March 6 announced the bandh after the security forces killed Monda Kadrika in Dangamatia on February 27. “February 27 was the last day of the Adivasi Ghati festival in the Niyamgiri jungles. Police had killed Monda to create fear and panic among the tribals,” he had alleged. Monda’s brother also had filed a murder complaint against the security forces in Kalyansinghpur police station of Rayagarh on March 5. On the other hand, the security forces on February 27 had claimed that Monda Kadrika (20) was a suspected Maoist and was killed in an encounter led by Rayagada SP K Siva Subramani in the Dangamatia forests. Meanwhile, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) acting Chairman Justice BK Mishra, on March 4, directed the Southern RDC and the South-West Range DIG to inquire and report separately on the allegations within four weeks. The matter is likely to be heard on April 26.

Dongria Kondhs take out protest rally against Dangamatia encounter case in Odisha
Odisha Sun Times Bureau Rayagada, Mar 15: Armed with traditional weapons, hundreds of Dongria Kondhs on Monday took out a protest rally and gheraoed Kalyansinghpur police station against the alleged fake encounter of tribal youth Monda Kadrika in Dangamatia by the security forces on February 27. More than 500 Dongria Kondhs under Niyamgiri Surakhya Samiti (NSS) gathered here, they were demanding an independent judicial inquiry into the killing of 20 year-old Monda, registration of murder case against the police and a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for his family.
The state government is trying to spread terror among Dongria Kondhs with an aim to mine bauxite in Niyamgiri hills, said President of NSS, Dadhi Sikaka. To maintain peace and avert any untoward incident, three platoons of police took out a flag march in Kalyansinghpur village. Meanwhile, a Nayamgiri based Maoist group has called for a bandh in five blocks of Rayagada district in Odisha today to protest Monda Kadrika alleged fake encounter in Dangamatia. Niyamgiri Area Commitee, has called for a strike in five blocks, namely, Rayagada, Kalyansingpur, Bishamcuttack, Muniguda, and Lanjigarh in Kahahandi district to protest the killing.
