Wild Mountain is a ski and snowboard area in Amador Township, Chisago County, near Taylors Falls, Minnesota. It features 26 runs, including 4 terrain parks, which include jumps, rails, boxes, quarter-pipes and half-pipes, which are both man made and natural. During the summer months of June, July and August, a water park, an alpine slide, and a go-kart track become operational. The site is also the first ski and snowboard resort in the Midwest to open every year, which is usually broadcast on the local news networks.
Wild Mountain is located one hour northeast of the Twin Cities Metrolpolitan area. It is located 7 miles north of Taylors Falls. From North Branch you can take interstate 35. The resort lies on the eastern bank of the scenic St. Croix River and has many tall bluffs and hills next to its shores, some being 300–400 feet tall.

The mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) is one of the two subspecies of the eastern gorilla. There are two populations. One is found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa, within three National Parks: Mgahinga, in south-west Uganda; Volcanoes, in north-west Rwanda; and Virunga in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. The other is found in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Some primatologists consider the Bwindi population in Uganda may be a separate subspecies, though no description has been finalized. As of September 2015, the estimated number of gorillas remaining is less than 900.
Gorillas are ground-dwelling, predominantly herbivorous apes that inhabit the forests of central Africa. The eponymous genus Gorilla is divided into two species: the eastern gorillas and the western gorillas, and either four or five subspecies. They are the largest living primates by physical size. The DNA of gorillas is highly similar to that of humans, from 95–99% depending on what is counted, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the chimpanzees and bonobos.
Gorillas' natural habitats cover tropical or subtropical forests in Africa. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The mountain gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200–4,300 metres (7,200–14,100 ft). Lowland gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level, with western lowland gorillas living in Central West African countries and eastern lowland gorillas living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo near its border with Rwanda.
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.

Earlier this year I was visiting the Nyakagezi gorilla family in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, when I had this incredible encounter with Machati, a heavily inquisitive juvenile. In general a seven meters distance from the gorillas should be observed at all times. But the animals aren't told. When Machati came closer to me, I asked the guide what to do. "Just stay, don't move", he said. To be honest: I was quite happy about it, since this was just an unforgettable once in a lifetime experience. Please check http://earthloversontour.blogspot.com/2015/02/lucky-me-private-tour-to-mountain.html for more pictures, the whole story and the reasons for the seven meters distance rule. BTW: Other tourists have told us about similar close encounters with wild mountain gorillas. Mayb...

Peru – a land of extremes and intrigue – principally known for being home to the most important archaeological site in all of the Americas, offers in reality so much more. Its landscapes range from high Andean peaks, to sultry Amazon rainforests, from high altitude deserts and wild windswept coasts. Of course its great to travel with the Incas from Cusco to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, but its also possible to get off the beaten track, to explore remote ruins of the cloud warriors in the north, or afro-Peruvian beats along the pacific coast. Most of all it’s a diverse country that offers something for everyone. But for many, a trip to Peru will begin in Cusco. As the ancient Inca capital, and the political power base in colonial times, Cusco has its fair share of sites. Sitting in a na...
Kyrgyzstan, or the Kyrgyz Republic to give it its official name, is quite simply one of the most interesting, pristine and beautiful countries in Asia, offering the adventurous traveller a rich and rewarding destination. My name is Jonny Bealby, I founded Wild Frontiers, and in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kyrgyzstan. Although small, Kyrgyzstan is perfectly formed. The Tien Shan – or Mountains of Heaven – that stretch across its length and breadth are lush and green, high and wild, dissected by sweeping steppe lands, primal forests, crystal streams, turquoise lakes and lofty snow-capped peaks. I first rode through here on horseback in 1999 while writing a book and making a Discovery Channel film, and I thought then it really was one of the most beautiful countries I ...
Argentina is one of the jewels in the Latin American crown. A vast country stretching 3,500 kilometres from the Bolivian border in the north to Ushuaia and the gateway to Antarctica in the south, it is a place that offers some of the most impressive natural wonders anywhere on earth. It has a world-class tourist infrastructure, with arguably the best cuisine on the continent, and it is safe. But its not just that that makes a trip to Argentina feel so special. The country simply has a redoubtable spirit unlike any other in the region, and nowhere is that more evident than in its lively capital, Buenos Aires. If Argentina is one of the jewels in the Latin American crown, so the cosmopolitan Buenos Aires is one of the standout cities of the continent. Many gateway cities are just that, and...

Solo 40 km backpack hike to Howse pass in Banff Park, Alberta. This is an abandoned fur trading route. I show tricks for making life easy in the wilderness. The trail was in such bad shape, with so much deadfall, that I had to abandon my attempt to reach the pass. Check out Brian Patton's blog on this trail at: http://canadianrockiestrailguide.com/howse-pass-the-disappearing-trail/ He's one of the co-authors of my favorite hiking book "The Canadian Rockies Trail Guide". Best part of making these video (other than the hike) is matching music. For this video I used: 1:50 Instrumental version of Madonna's "Amazing" found on YouTube. 7:20 Instrumental version of the Tragically Hip's "Wheat King" found on YouTube. The Hip are an amazing Canadian band from Ontario. 15:10 Instrumental ve...

Learn more about the bike ride we're doing in this video: http://bicycletouringpro.com/blog/norway-bike-tour-photo-gallery/ On the 2nd day of the Fjord Cycling Route Bike Tour in Norway, my friend Katelyn and I traded our road bikes for two mountain bikes and headed off into the nearby mountains for a day of mountain bike riding. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side, and we encountered all sorts of rain, wind and show during our attempt to reach the train at the summit of nearby mountain. By the time we reached the trail, we were both extremely wet and cold, so we turned around and returned to the Stordalen Mountain Lodge, where we took showers, ate a delicious lunch and dinner and do our best to stay dry and warm for the rest of the day. Vacation travel video about destination Malawi in Africa. Malawi is the unknown Africa in the south-east of the Continent. A wild country between sea and highlands, a land of contrasts with amazing green mountains and high plateaus but most of all, Lake Malawi. In the north west and on the border with Zambia is the thousand square kilometre Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve, home to more than two hundred elephants who, in small groups, visit the Kazuni Safari Camp on their way to the lake. In the Lake Kazuni area there are many hippos and crocodiles which although rarely seen from the shore can certainly be heard at night. The location of the small town of Nkhata Bay is quite spectacular, a large, sheltered bay, accessible via a steep slope. Small boats transport the local people to various loc...
