The survey focuses on visitors' overall satisfaction with the site, how well it met their expectations, and how it compares to their idea of an ideal website. Smithsonian scores are benchmarked against an index of website satisfaction scores (managed by a leading customer experience analytics firm) for more than 25 non-profit, association, and education websites.

The Smithsonian has a massive digitization program underway, with goals of producing electronic records for all 138 million objects and specimens in our museum collections, plus digital images or other surrogates for a prioritized 12 percent of the total.
