Burt Lancaster went from street-wise tough to art-collector liberal-activist, from circus-acrobat hunk to Academy Award winner.
Born November 2, 1913, Burton Stephen Lancaster, later “Burt Lancaster” was one of five children of a New York City postal worker. Burt recalled family life as warm and mutually supportive. At the Union Settlement House, he and boyhood friend Nick Cravat formed an acrobatic team. By eighteen, Burt was 6’2″ and blessed with the athletic physique and dynamic good looks that helped make him famous. A basketball scholarship was not enough to keep him in NYU beyond his sophomore year. That’s when he and the 5’2″ Cravat joined a circus, earning $3 weekly between them. A stint in the Army introduced Burt to acting and led him to Hollywood where his first release, The Killers (1946), propelled him to stardom at age 32. He took control of his own career and seldom faltered. He was married three times and had five children.
Upon his death in 1994, four-time Academy Award-nominated Burt Lancaster was acknowledged as one of the greatest stars in the Hollywood firmament. Lancaster’s films include Westerns, Costume Epics and serious Contemporary Dramas. There were the swashbucklers like The Crimson Pirate (1952), and also more risky roles, like the aging alcoholic in Come Back Little Sheba (1952).

Sgt. Mike Kincaid of the French Foreign Legion learns, from a Riff prisoner, that an attack will soon be made by the villainous Hussin on the Legion's outpost of Tarfa. Kincaid volunteers to lead nine other Legionnaires on a mission to delay Hussin's attack till reinforcements arrive. When he discovers that Hussin plans to marry Mahla, a girl from a rival tribe, in order to build a coalition against the French, Kincaid kidnaps Mahla. Hussin forcefully takes her back, but by now his planned attack on Tarfa is crumbling and Mahla has begun to fall in love with Kincaid.

Twilight's Last Gleaming is a 1977 film directed by Robert Aldrich, starring Burt Lancaster and Richard Widmark.
The film was a West German/US co-production, shot mainly at the Bavaria studios.
Loosely based on a 1971 novel, Viper Three by Walter Wager.

Based on Ken Follet's book of the same name, the events depicted occurred less than a year before 52 American embassy workers were taken hostage in the wake of the Iranian revolution that ousted the Shah.
The repetitious opening credits were edited out of Part II to maintain some continuity. This did not affect any scenes nor dialogue.

Burton Stephen "Burt" Lancaster (November 2, 1913 – October 20, 1994) was an American film actor noted for his athletic physique and distinctive smile (which he called "The Grin"). After initially building his career on "tough guy" roles Lancaster abandoned his "all-American" image in the late 1950s in favor of more complex and challenging roles, and came to be regarded as one of the best actors of his generation as a result.
Lancaster was nominated four times for Academy Awards and won once — for his work in Elmer Gantry in 1960. He also won a Golden Globe for that performance and BAFTA Awards for The Birdman of Alcatraz (1962) and Atlantic City (1980). His production company, Hecht-Hill-Lancaster, was the most successful and innovative star-driven independent production company in Hollywood of the 1950s, making movies such as Marty (1955), Trapeze (1956), and Sweet Smell of Success (1957).
In 1999, the American Film Institute named Lancaster 19th among the greatest male stars of all time.

Mini-series set against the backdrop of politico-religious upheaval in late-1970s Iran. Ross Perot (Richard Crenna) seeks out retired Army colonel Arthur "Bull" Simons (Burt Lancaster), who organizes a team of war vets from Perot's IT company EDS to rescue two colleagues, held without charges by a faction of the faltering Iranian government. Based on Ken Follet's book of the same name, the events depicted occurred less than a year before 52 American embassy workers were taken hostage in the wake of the Iranian revolution that ousted the Shah. The repetitious opening credits were edited out of Part II to maintain some continuity. This did not affect any scenes nor dialogue. -

It was in the unchanged, ghost-filled backstage corridors and former stables of the latter that I met South American trapeze troupe the Flying Neves and interviewed them about their gravity-defying lives. And it was in the Hippodrome's ring, on the 100th anniversary of the building, that aerial silk star Eva Garcia plunged forty feet to her death during a performance just days after she described to me her life of glamour, grit and peril.

La Vallée de la vengeance (Vengeance Valley) est un film américain réalisé par Richard Thorpe, sorti en 1951.
Owen et Lee sont comme deux frères, tous deux élevés par le propriétaire terrien Arch. Owen a été recueilli par le patriarche pour servir de guide à son fils Lee. Mais Lee est un vaurien, haineux, jaloux et malhonnête.
Synopsis :
Lorsqu'ils rentrent des pâturages où le bétail doit passer l'hiver, les deux cow-boys apprennent que Lily, une jeune femme célibataire, vient d'accoucher d'un fils avec la seule aide de Jen, l'épouse de Lee. Or le père n'est autre que Lee mais celui-ci s'en cache et c'est à Owen de veiller à ce que la jeune mère ne manque de rien. Les frères de Lily ne l'entendent pas de cette oreille et jurent de faire rendre gorge au père indigne qu'ils pensent être Owen. En plus de cette menace Owen doit faire face à la haine grandissante de Lee qui ira jusqu'à tenter de le faire assassiner. Quant à Jen elle a tout compris et une idylle naît entre elle et Owen.

We really feel the queasy swing of the lofty trapeze bar; the heart-stopping flights through mid-air; the jarring thud of the catches and the stomach-turning plunges into the net.
But perhaps even more compelling than the trapeze scenes are the shots of backstage corridors heaving with ballerinas, harmonica-playing dwarfs, silk-costumed clowns, spotted horses and trumpeting elephants. Shot in beautiful deep colours, every frame is rich in detail. The backstage menagerie, with its camels, lions and giraffe is so vivid you can almost smell the dung and feel the cobbled floor beneath your feet. Even Carry On film favourite Sid James shows up, trying to sell to anyone who will listen the python he has coiled around his shoulders.
But how realistic is the portrayal of backstage life in the circus? One of the most striking aspects of Trapeze is how closely the Parisian circus building where the film is set resembles Britain's last purpose-built circus building, the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome. It was in the unchanged, ghost-filled backstage corridors and former stables of the latter that I met South American trapeze troupe the Flying Neves and interviewed them about their gravity-defying lives. And it was in the Hippodrome's ring, on the 100th anniversary of the building, that aerial silk star Eva Garcia plunged forty feet to her death during a performance just days after she described to me her life of glamour, grit and peril.
