Breaking Amish
Breaking Amish is an American reality television series on the TLC television network that debuted September 9, 2012. The series revolves around five young Anabaptist adults (four Amish and one Mennonite) who move to New York City in order to experience a different life and decide whether to return to their communities or remain outside their communities and face potential ostracism by their family and friends. It follows the cast members as they experience life in New York and face new situations involving work, friendship, romance, and lifestyle, plus the drama that develops between cast members as they undergo various experiences.
The cast-members' move to New York City differs from Rumspringa, the rite of passage in which some 16-year-old Amish are allowed to experience the outside world and to decide whether or not they wish to remain with their home communities.
A news report on February 25, 2013, stated that TLC had ordered a second season of Breaking Amish. with the original cast.Breaking Amish: Brave New World is considered the second season by TLC.

Amish
The Amish (/ˈɑË?mɪʃ/; Pennsylvania Dutch: Amisch, German: Amische) are a group of traditionalist Christian church fellowships, closely related to but distinct from Mennonite churches, with whom they share Swiss Anabaptist origins. The Amish are known for simple living, plain dress, and reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology. The history of the Amish church began with a schism in Switzerland within a group of Swiss and Alsatian Anabaptists in 1693 led by Jakob Ammann. Those who followed Ammann became known as Amish.
In the early 18th century, many Amish and Mennonites immigrated to Pennsylvania for a variety of reasons. Today, the most traditional descendants of the Amish continue to speak Pennsylvania German, also known as "Pennsylvania Dutch," although a dialect of Swiss German is used by Old Order Amish in the Adams County, Indiana area. As of 2000, over 165,000 Old Order Amish live in the United States and about 1,500 live in Canada. A 2008 study suggested their numbers have increased to 227,000, and in 2010 a study suggested their population had grown by 10 percent in the past two years to 249,000, with increasing movement to the West. Unlike most Americans who have had a birthrate too low to maintain the population since the early 1970s, most of the Amish continue to have 6–7 children while benefiting from the major decrease in infant and maternal mortality in the 20th century. Between 1992 and 2013, the Amish population increased by 120%, while the US population increased by only 23%.

A life just as it was 300 years ago: the Amish in the US. They live according to their own rules, reject technological advances, wear old-fashioned clothing and drive horse-drawn carts. An encounter with the Amish is like traveling back in time.
Originating from southern Germany and Switzerland, the Amish community brought its culture and language to the New World. Deeply rooted in their faith, the Amish adhere to strict codes and reject modern technology. For outsiders, these rules can sometimes appear strange. They traverse their rural communities in horse-drawn carts, but if a distance is too far, they’re allowed to use a shuttle service. Children are expected to help with housework even when they’re attending school. But before they’re baptized as young adults and finally become part of the Amish community, they’re allowed to try what’s called the rumspringa: a period of time when they’re encouraged to behave like regular teenagers - before deciding on which lifestyle they prefer. But those who opt for a conventional, modern existence are exiled. The film sheds light on a fascinating world governed by tradition.

I gotta say, even after visiting all 197 countries in the world, I found the Swartzentruber Amish to be among the most fascinating groups of people I've come in contact with. And it's in my own country!
Through my friend Lizzie, a former Swartzentruber Amish who grew up in Holmes County, Ohio, I gained rare access to this secluded community that is off-limits to outsiders. Join me as we learn first-hand from the Swartzentruber Amish, as well as get a deep dive into Lizzie's childhood as she remembers it.

Here's a little more information on the Swartzentruber Amish: They are renowned for their extreme adherence to tradition and rejection of modern conveniences. They maintain the strictest rules regarding technology, shunning electricity, indoor plumbing, and even bicycles. Their church services are marathon-like, often lasting up to six hours, emphasizing their deep spiritual devotion to God.
What makes the Swartzentruber Amish even more fascinating and shocking is their commitment to living without modern healthcare, relying solely on traditional remedies and community support. They also practice rigorous schooling and they complete education at the 8th grade, focusing instead on practical skills and Amish traditions.

Zeitreise in die Gegenwart: Ursprünglich aus Süddeutschland und der Schweiz stammend, hat die Amish-Gemeinschaft ihre Kultur und Sprache in die Neue Welt getragen: Sie sprechen Pennsylvaniadeutsch – eine Mischung aus Englisch und deutschen Dialekten – und leben wie vor 300 Jahren.
Tief verwurzelt in ihrem Glauben, folgen die Amish strengen Richtlinien und lehnen moderne Technologien und Lebensformen ab. Für Außenstehende können diese Regeln manchmal rätselhaft erscheinen. A life just as it was 300 years ago: the Amish in the US. They live according to their own rules, reject technological advances, wear old-fashioned clothing and drive horse-drawn carts. An encounter with the Amish is like traveling back in time.
Originating from southern Germany and Switzerland, the Amish community brought its culture and language to the New World. Deeply rooted in their faith, the Amish adhere to strict codes and reject modern technology. For outsiders, these rules can sometimes appear strange. They traverse their rural communities in horse-drawn carts, but if a distance is too far, they’re allowed to use a shuttle service. They don’t use telephones unless it’s for business purposes and the device is located outside of the home.
Children are expected to help with housework even when they’re attending school. But before they’re baptized as young adults and finally become part of the Amish community, they’re allowed to try what’s called the rumspringa: a period of time when they’re encouraged to behave like regular teenagers - before deciding on which lifestyle they prefer. But those who opt for a conventional, modern existence are exiled. The film sheds light on a fascinating world governed by tradition.

WHO ARE THE AMISH PEOPLE OF AMERICA?
One thing I love about the USA is the diversity. You can pretty much find people from all cultures, religions, traditions, and walks of life in this country of 330 million people.
One of the most interesting groups of people that I've come across is the AMISH. They are traditional Christian Anabaptists who originally have Swiss German roots, and settled (mostly) in Pennsylvania in the early 18th Century.
I went to Lancaster Country, PA today to learn all about their way of life, and it's fascinating! Have you ever heard of the Amish before?

Here's a little more information on the Swartzentruber Amish: They are renowned for their extreme adherence to tradition and rejection of modern conveniences. They maintain the strictest rules regarding technology, shunning electricity, indoor plumbing, and even bicycles. Their church services are marathon-like, often lasting up to six hours, emphasizing their deep spiritual devotion to God.
What makes the Swartzentruber Amish even more fascinating and shocking is their commitment to living without modern healthcare, relying solely on traditional remedies and community support. They also practice rigorous schooling and they complete education at the 8th grade, focusing instead on practical skills and Amish traditions.

Sie tragen altmodische Kleidung, Hüte, Hauben und lange Bärte. Wer den Amish begegnet, taucht in eine vergangene Welt ein.
Zeitreise in die Gegenwart: Ursprünglich aus Süddeutschland und der Schweiz stammend, hat die Amish-Gemeinschaft ihre Kultur und Sprache in die Neue Welt getragen: Sie sprechen Pennsylvaniadeutsch – eine Mischung aus Englisch und deutschen Dialekten – und leben wie vor 300 Jahren.
Tief verwurzelt in ihrem Glauben, folgen die Amish strengen Richtlinien und lehnen moderne Technologien und Lebensformen ab. Für Außenstehende können diese Regeln manchmal rätselhaft erscheinen. Mit Pferdekutschen durchstreifen sie ihre ländlichen Gemeinden, doch wenn es zu weit ist, darf ein Shuttleservice genutzt werden, an dem einige Amerikaner viel verdienen. Das Telefon wird nicht benutzt, außer wenn es sich um geschäftliche Belange handelt und sich das Gerät außerhalb des Hauses befindet. Trotz ihrer einfachen Lebensweise haben die Amish keine Nachwuchsprobleme. Kinderreiche Familien sind an der Tagesordnung. Auch die Geschäfte laufen gut, denn die landwirtschaftlichen Produkte aus ökologischem Anbau sind genauso gefragt wie das handwerkliche Geschick der Amish.
Die Amish haben ihre eigenen Privatschulen, besuchen diese aber meistens nur bis zum 14. Lebensjahr. Der Lehrplan gibt neben Lesen, Schreiben, Rechnen, Geografie und Deutsch vor allem Bibelunterricht vor. Bereits während der Schulzeit arbeiten die Kinder zu Hause mit. Doch bevor sie sich als junge Erwachsene taufen lassen, um dann endgültig zur Amish-Gemeinschaft dazuzugehören, haben sie die Möglichkeit zum sogenannten Rumspringa: In dieser Zeit dürfen sie alles ausprobieren, was auch andere Jugendliche gewöhnlich tun – danach müssen sie sich für einen Lebensstil entscheiden. Wer jedoch nach der Taufe ein moderneres Dasein wählt, wird exkommuniziert. Der Film gibt einen faszinierenden Einblick in eine traditionelle Welt.

Breaking Amish
Breaking Amish is an American reality television series on the TLC television network that debuted September 9, 2012. The series revolves around five young Anabaptist adults (four Amish and one Mennonite) who move to New York City in order to experience a different life and decide whether to return to their communities or remain outside their communities and face potential ostracism by their family and friends. It follows the cast members as they experience life in New York and face new situations involving work, friendship, romance, and lifestyle, plus the drama that develops between cast members as they undergo various experiences.
The cast-members' move to New York City differs from Rumspringa, the rite of passage in which some 16-year-old Amish are allowed to experience the outside world and to decide whether or not they wish to remain with their home communities.
A news report on February 25, 2013, stated that TLC had ordered a second season of Breaking Amish. with the original cast.Breaking Amish: Brave New World is considered the second season by TLC.
