Ramanaa is a 2002 Tamil action film directed by A. R. Murugadoss. The film stars Vijaykanth and Simran.
It was later remade in Telugu as Tagore with Chiranjeevi in the lead and then in Kannada as Vishnu Sena with Vishnuvardhan in the lead role and unofficial remake in Bengali as Tiger.[1][2][3]
The film has also been remade in Hindi titled Gabbar is Back directed by Krish and featuring Akshay Kumar and Shruti Haasan in lead roles

The film is about Ramana (Vijayakanth) who decides to abolish corruption altogether with the help of his students who are now working in various government offices. The reason behind this powerful decision is told in the flashback. Ramana is a happy professor with his wife (played by Simran) and daughter. And one day when Ramana is out to make some purchases, the entire neighbourhood collapses due to some fault in the construction and many of the residents including Simran and her daughter lose their lives. Ramana rushes to the Government Officials when he comes to know that all this was due to one person namely Vijayan, an industrialist with the necessary proof. But the incidents that he faces at the office, and on finding that these officials who are now corrupt to the core are mere puppets in the hands of Vijayan he gets frustrated on the situation and this makes him to form the ACF (Anti Corruption Force).
15 Thasildars are found missing and then the police find that 14 of them have been released after 3 days but one of them is killed. They find some files and a tape along with the body of the dead thasildar. These files carry details of why the kidnap of the 15 thasildars had been done and the reason for the murder of one of them and have the words ACF written on it. It is understood by the police that these men where the thasildars who had indulged themselves in bribery and that they were the top 15 of the list of the corrupt thasildars. ACF sends the tape, with the message that they shall continue the kidnap of the corrupt officers in all the departments and that the No.1 corrupt shall be sentenced to death according to the law of the Anti Corruption Force.
There is fear among the corrupt officials. They come forward to file their returns. For a while there are no illegal transactions done, but the corruption soon continues in the society due to the threatening of the local mob to sign illegal documents and accept bribes. Meanwhile, the ACF finds that it is Vijayan who is the real reason behind this corruption scenario. Then the kidnapping continues. Finally with the help of a police constable played by Yugi Sethu, who takes up this case, they find the students working for the ACF and they are put to torture in the cell to reveal the name of their leader. Ramana on seeing his students suffer, surrenders to the police and requests police to release his students. However in the climax Ramana kills Vijayan and Ramana gets hanged by the police on the charges of several murders done by Ramana and his students.

Ramana is a simple man who leads a simple life during day time along with his adopted kids. Looking like a timid character by looks but brave in terms of his action he is loved by all of his peers. Ramana once takes one of his kids to hospital for treating injury and finds that the hospital is place full of corruption who play with the lives of people for sake of money. Raman decides to expose the truth and catches them red-handedly by faking a dead body as a patient. The hospital unaware of his plans continue their treatment even though they know that the person is dead and demand lakhs of money for treatment. Ramana produces the documents and receipts related to their fake treatment and gets the hospital sealed by government. The hospital dean is arrested but he commits suicide. The father of the dean Bhadrinarayanan (Vijayan) is enraged by this and attempts to take revenge on Ramana. He finds Ramana in the CCTV camera and is shocked as according to him he was dead several years ago.

Ramanaa begins with the abduction of fifteen Tehsildars, or revenue officers. After three days in captivity, fourteen of the officers are released, but one is murdered. The police find a tape recording and a file on the dead man's body. Information on this file exposes the fact that the kidnapping and subsequent murder were committed by members of the self-proclaimed "Anti-Corruption Force" (ACF). The ACF is a citizen militia seeking to eliminate corruption through sometimes dubious methodology. The militia, acting as a kangaroo court, had "sentenced" corrupt officials in the area to death—beginning with the captured revenue officers who were apparently engaging in criminal activity.
The film's setting then shifts to Ramana, a mild-mannered professor at National College living with his wife and daughter. While visiting his adopted child at the hospital, Ramana discovers that officials at the facility are engaging in extortion and fraud. After collecting evidence of the hospital staff's deception, Ramana turns them over to the authorities. The plot ringleader is the hospital dean, and he commits suicide upon discovery. His grief-stricken father, a local construction magnate named Bhadrinarayanan, vows to take revenge on the man responsible for his son's death.
During the festival of Deepavali, Ramana's apartment building collapses, killing many residents—among them, his wife and daughter. Recovering from the incident, he demands to know who was responsible for the building's collapse. He discovers that the building was built and owned by Bhadrinarayanan, who knowingly constructed the complex on loose soil. When Ramana confronts him, Bhadrinarayanan and his men beat him. However Ramana manages to escape. In response to the actions of Bhadrinarayanan as well as the general corruption in the region, Ramana forms the Anti-Corruption Force (ACF). Ramana and his men ultimately capture and hang Bhadrinarayanan along with other corrupt government officials.
Meanwhile, a local constable who had been passed over for promotion due to his refusal to bribe his superiors begins building a case against the ACF. The constable eventually realizes that the ACF is primarily composed of students and alumni of Ramana's school, and takes swift action against them. The ACF members are captured and tortured by the police, but refuse to reveal their leader's identity. Ramana is overcome with guilt over his students' sacrifice and surrenders himself on the condition that the other members of the ACF be released.
Ramana is tried and convicted for the murders of Bhadrinarayanan and the other government officials. He is sentenced to death. Public pressure from the sympathetic community forces the Chief Minister to offer Ramana an appeal, however Ramana refuses, stating that he must face the consequences of his actions. He is ultimately hanged. The constable is offered a promotion for the part he played in toppling the ACF. He refuses it out of a sense of guilt.

"Who am I?" is the title given to a set of questions and answers bearing on Self-enquiry. The questions were put to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi by one Sri M. Sivaprakasam Pillai about the year 1902. Sri Pillai, a graduate in Philosophy, was at the time employed in the Revenue Department of the South Arcot Collectorate. During his visit to Tiruvannamalai in 1902 on official work, he went to Virupaksha Cave on Arunachala Hill and met the Master there. He sought from him spiritual guidance, and solicited answers to questions relating to Self-enquiry. As Bhagavan was not talking then, not because of any vow he had taken, but because he did not have the inclination to talk, he answered the questions put to him by gestures, and when these were not understood, by writing. As recollected and recorded by Sri Sivaprakasam Pillai, there were fourteen questions with answers to them given by Bhagavan. This record was first published by Sri Pillai in 1923, along with a couple of poems composed by himself relating how Bhagavan's grace operated in his case by dispelling his doubts and by saving him from a crisis in life. 'Who am I?' has been published several times subsequently. We find thirty questions and answers in some editions and twenty-eight in others. There is also another published version in which the questions are not given, and the teachings are rearranged in the form of an essay. The extant English translation is of this essay. The present rendering is of the text in the form of twenty-eight questions and answers.

Meanwhile, a local constable who had been passed over for promotion due to his refusal to bribe his superiors begins building a case against the ACF. The constable eventually realizes that the ACF is primarily composed of students and alumni of Ramana's school, and takes swift action against them. The ACF members are captured and tortured by the police, but refuse to reveal their leader's identity. Ramana is overcome with guilt over his students' sacrifice and surrenders himself on the condition that the other members of the ACF be released. Ramana is tried and convicted for the murders of Bhadrinarayanan and the other government officials. He is sentenced to death. Public pressure from the sympathetic community forces the Chief Minister to offer Ramana an appeal, however Ramana refuses, stating that he must face the consequences of his actions. He is ultimately hanged. The constable is offered a promotion for the part he played in toppling the ACF. He refuses it out of a sense of guilt. "Who am I?" is the title given to a set of questions and answers bearing on Self-enquiry. The questions were put to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi by one Sri M. Sivaprakasam Pillai about the year 1902. Sri Pillai, a graduate in Philosophy, was at the time employed in the Revenue Department of the South Arcot Collectorate. During his visit to Tiruvannamalai in 1902 on official work, he went to Virupaksha Cave on Arunachala Hill and met the Master there. He sought from him spiritual guidance, and solicited answers to questions relating to Self-enquiry. As Bhagavan was not talking then, not because of any vow he had taken, but because he did not have the inclination to talk, he answered the questions put to him by gestures, and when these were not understood, by writing. As recollected and recorded by Sri Sivaprakasam Pillai, there were fourteen questions with answers to them given by Bhagavan. This record was first published by Sri Pillai in 1923, along with a couple of poems composed by himself relating how Bhagavan's grace operated in his case by dispelling his doubts and by saving him from a crisis in life. 'Who am I?' has been published several times subsequently. We find thirty questions and answers in some editions and twenty-eight in others. There is also another published version in which the questions are not given, and the teachings are rearranged in the form of an essay. The extant English translation is of this essay. The present rendering is of the text in the form of twenty-eight questions and answers. Ramana rushes to the Government Officials when he comes to know that all this was due to one person namely Vijayan, an industrialist with the necessary proof. But the incidents that he faces at the office, and on finding that these officials who are now corrupt to the core are mere puppets in the hands of Vijayan he gets frustrated on the situation and this makes him to form the ACF (Anti Corruption Force).
15 Thasildars are found missing and then the police find that 14 of them have been released after 3 days but one of them is killed. They find some files and a tape along with the body of the dead thasildar. These files carry details of why the kidnap of the 15 thasildars had been done and the reason for the murder of one of them and have the words ACF written on it. It is understood by the police that these men where the thasildars who had indulged themselves in bribery and that they were the top 15 of the list of the corrupt thasildars. ACF sends the tape, with the message that they shall continue the kidnap of the corrupt officers in all the departments and that the No.1 corrupt shall be sentenced to death according to the law of the Anti Corruption Force.
There is fear among the corrupt officials. They come forward to file their returns. For a while there are no illegal transactions done, but the corruption soon continues in the society due to the threatening of the local mob to sign illegal documents and accept bribes. Meanwhile, the ACF finds that it is Vijayan who is the real reason behind this corruption scenario. Then the kidnapping continues. Finally with the help of a police constable played by Yugi Sethu, who takes up this case, they find the students working for the ACF and they are put to torture in the cell to reveal the name of their leader. Ramana on seeing his students suffer, surrenders to the police and requests police to release his students. However in the climax Ramana kills Vijayan and Ramana gets hanged by the police on the charges of several murders done by Ramana and his students.

Ramana is a simple man who leads a simple life during day time along with his adopted kids. Looking like a timid character by looks but brave in terms of his action he is loved by all of his peers. Ramana once takes one of his kids to hospital for treating injury and finds that the hospital is place full of corruption who play with the lives of people for sake of money. Raman decides to expose the truth and catches them red-handedly by faking a dead body as a patient. The hospital unaware of his plans continue their treatment even though they know that the person is dead and demand lakhs of money for treatment. Ramana produces the documents and receipts related to their fake treatment and gets the hospital sealed by government. The hospital dean is arrested but he commits suicide. The father of the dean Bhadrinarayanan (Vijayan) is enraged by this and attempts to take revenge on Ramana. He finds Ramana in the CCTV camera and is shocked as according to him he was dead several years ago.

Ramanaa begins with the abduction of fifteen Tehsildars, or revenue officers. After three days in captivity, fourteen of the officers are released, but one is murdered. The police find a tape recording and a file on the dead man's body. Information on this file exposes the fact that the kidnapping and subsequent murder were committed by members of the self-proclaimed "Anti-Corruption Force" (ACF). The ACF is a citizen militia seeking to eliminate corruption through sometimes dubious methodology. The militia, acting as a kangaroo court, had "sentenced" corrupt officials in the area to death—beginning with the captured revenue officers who were apparently engaging in criminal activity.
The film's setting then shifts to Ramana, a mild-mannered professor at National College living with his wife and daughter. While visiting his adopted child at the hospital, Ramana discovers that officials at the facility are engaging in extortion and fraud. After collecting evidence of the hospital staff's deception, Ramana turns them over to the authorities. The plot ringleader is the hospital dean, and he commits suicide upon discovery. His grief-stricken father, a local construction magnate named Bhadrinarayanan, vows to take revenge on the man responsible for his son's death.
During the festival of Deepavali, Ramana's apartment building collapses, killing many residents—among them, his wife and daughter. Recovering from the incident, he demands to know who was responsible for the building's collapse. He discovers that the building was built and owned by Bhadrinarayanan, who knowingly constructed the complex on loose soil. When Ramana confronts him, Bhadrinarayanan and his men beat him. However Ramana manages to escape. In response to the actions of Bhadrinarayanan as well as the general corruption in the region, Ramana forms the Anti-Corruption Force (ACF). Ramana and his men ultimately capture and hang Bhadrinarayanan along with other corrupt government officials.
Meanwhile, a local constable who had been passed over for promotion due to his refusal to bribe his superiors begins building a case against the ACF. The constable eventually realizes that the ACF is primarily composed of students and alumni of Ramana's school, and takes swift action against them. The ACF members are captured and tortured by the police, but refuse to reveal their leader's identity. Ramana is overcome with guilt over his students' sacrifice and surrenders himself on the condition that the other members of the ACF be released.
Ramana is tried and convicted for the murders of Bhadrinarayanan and the other government officials. He is sentenced to death. Public pressure from the sympathetic community forces the Chief Minister to offer Ramana an appeal, however Ramana refuses, stating that he must face the consequences of his actions. He is ultimately hanged. The constable is offered a promotion for the part he played in toppling the ACF. He refuses it out of a sense of guilt.

"Who am I?" is the title given to a set of questions and answers bearing on Self-enquiry. The questions were put to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi by one Sri M. Sivaprakasam Pillai about the year 1902. Sri Pillai, a graduate in Philosophy, was at the time employed in the Revenue Department of the South Arcot Collectorate. During his visit to Tiruvannamalai in 1902 on official work, he went to Virupaksha Cave on Arunachala Hill and met the Master there. He sought from him spiritual guidance, and solicited answers to questions relating to Self-enquiry. As Bhagavan was not talking then, not because of any vow he had taken, but because he did not have the inclination to talk, he answered the questions put to him by gestures, and when these were not understood, by writing. As recollected and recorded by Sri Sivaprakasam Pillai, there were fourteen questions with answers to them given by Bhagavan. This record was first published by Sri Pillai in 1923, along with a couple of poems composed by himself relating how Bhagavan's grace operated in his case by dispelling his doubts and by saving him from a crisis in life. 'Who am I?' has been published several times subsequently. We find thirty questions and answers in some editions and twenty-eight in others. There is also another published version in which the questions are not given, and the teachings are rearranged in the form of an essay. The extant English translation is of this essay. The present rendering is of the text in the form of twenty-eight questions and answers.
