He was the Jiu Jitsu Coach of MMA Fighter Diego Sanchez, who trained out of The Arena (MMA) gym in San Diego until Sanchez returned to his home state of New Mexico.
Saulo's Competition titles include:*5 time Gold Medalist - World Jiu-Jitsu Championship: 1997, 98, 99, 2000, and 2002
On August 10, 2008, Saulo won the gold medal in World No Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship by defeating Gregor Gracie in the final of medium heavyweight weight class.
As a prep before ADCC, Saulo competed in the American Nationals; winning his division and closing out the open class with teammate, Cadu Francis
At ADCC 2009 in Barcelona, Saulo competed in the over 99 kg weight category. He defeated Kouji Kanechika and World Jiu-Jitsu champion, Romulo Barral before losing to Fabricio Werdum in the semifinal on judges' decision. After losing on another judges' decision in the third-place dispute to Jeff Monson, he announced his retirement from professional Jiu-Jitsu and grappling competition.
Saulo competed in the World Masters (30+ yrs) BJJ Championship in 2010 and and finished all his matches via submission en route to winning the absolute title.
