Errigal (Irish: An Earagail, possibly meaning "oratory") is a 751-metre (2,464 ft) mountain near Gweedore in County Donegal, Ireland. It is the tallest peak of the Derryveagh Mountains, the tallest peak in County Donegal, and the 76th tallest peak in Ireland. Errigal is also the most southern, steepest and highest of the mountain chain, called the "Seven Sisters" by locals. The Seven Sisters includes Muckish, Crocknalaragagh, Aghla Beg, Ardloughnabrackbaddy, Aghla More, Mackoght and Errigal. The nearest peak is Mackoght, which is also known as Little Errigal or Wee Errigal (Irish: an Earagail Bheag).
Errigal is well known for the pinkish glow of its quartzite in the setting sun. Another noted quality is the ever-changing shape of the mountain depending on what direction you view it from. Errigal was voted 'Ireland's Most Iconic Mountain' by Walking & Hiking Ireland in 2009.
The mountain is most often climbed from the carpark off the R251 road. The route initially starts off by crossing heavily eroded and boggy land towards a visible track through the shiny scree from where the ascent proper starts. After reaching the summit, people usually walk the short but exposed walk along ‘One Man’s Pass’ which leads across to the second and lower of the twin summits. No special equipment is needed to climb the mountain, but caution is advised.
County Donegal (pronounced /ˈdʌnᵻɡɔːl/ or /ˌdʌnᵻˈɡɔːl/; Irish: Contae Dhún na nGall) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Border Region and is in the province of Ulster. It is named after the town of Donegal (Dún na nGall) in the south of the county. Donegal County Council is the local council for the county and Lifford serves as the county town. The population of the county was 161,137 according to the 2011 census. It has also been known as (County) Tyrconnell (Tír Chonaill), after the historic territory of the same name.
In terms of size and area, it is the largest county in Ulster and the fourth-largest county in all of Ireland. Uniquely, County Donegal shares a small border with only one other county in the Republic of Ireland – County Leitrim. The greater part of its land border is shared with three counties of Northern Ireland: County Londonderry, County Tyrone and County Fermanagh. This geographic isolation from the rest of the Republic has led to Donegal people maintaining a distinct cultural identity and has been used to market the county with the slogan "Up here it's different". While Lifford is the county town, Letterkenny is by far the largest town in the county with a population of 19,588. Letterkenny and the nearby city of Derry form the main economic axis of the northwest of Ireland. Indeed, what became the City of Derry was officially part of County Donegal up until 1610.
Donegal or Donegal Town (/ˈdʌniɡɔːl/ or /ˈdʌnᵻɡɔːl/ DUN-i-gawl; Irish: Dún na nGall, meaning "fort of the foreigners") is a town in County Donegal, Ireland. The name was historically written in English as Dunnagall or Dunagall.
Donegal gave its name to County Donegal, although Lifford is now the county town. Until the early 17th century, Donegal was the 'capital' of Tír Chonaill, a Gaelic kingdom controlled by the O'Donnell Clan of the Cenél Conaill. Donegal sits at the mouth of the River Eske and Donegal Bay, which is overshadowed by the Bluestack Mountains ('the Croaghs'). The town is bypassed by the N15 and N56 roads. The centre of the town, known as The Diamond, is a hub for music, poetic and cultural gatherings in the area.
There is archaeological evidence for settlements around the town dating to prehistoric times including the remains of round forts and other defensive earthworks.
St. Patrick was captured by raiders from the clans governed by Niall of the Nine Hostages, and this region is that to which Patrick returned, being familiar with the people, language, customs and lands. The first clan to convert to Christianity as the result of St Patrick's efforts was Clan Connaill (also known at one time as Clan Dálaigh: in English, this is pronounced Daley and it translates as "one in a leadership role"). Connall was a son of Niall of the Nine Hostages. As a result of their acceptance of Christianity, Patrick blessed the clan members; the sign of the cross appeared on the chieftain's shield and this became not only the heraldic device for the clan but also for County Donegal.

Ireland (i/ˈaɪərlənd/; Irish: Éire [ˈeːɾʲə]; Ulster-Scots: Airlann [ˈɑːrlən]) is an island in the North Atlantic. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George's Channel. Ireland is the second-largest island of the British Isles, the third-largest in Europe, and the twentieth-largest on Earth.
Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, and located in the northeast of the island. In 2011 the population of Ireland was about 6.4 million, ranking it the second-most populous island in Europe after Great Britain. Just under 4.6 million live in the Republic of Ireland and just over 1.8 million live in Northern Ireland.
The island's geography comprises relatively low-lying mountains surrounding a central plain, with several navigable rivers extending inland. The island has lush vegetation, a product of its mild but changeable climate which avoids extremes in temperature. Thick woodlands covered the island until the Middle Ages. As of 2013, the amount of land that is wooded in Ireland is about 11% of the total, compared with a European average of 35%. There are 26 extant mammal species native to Ireland. The Irish climate is very moderated and classified as oceanic. As a result, winters are milder than expected for such a northerly area. However, summers are cooler than those in Continental Europe. Rainfall and cloud cover are abundant.
A walk on Errigal Mountain, Donegal, Ireland. This hillwalk climbs Mount Errigal from the north with near guaranteed solitude and more challenge than the usual approach. Starting at Procklis Lough and following an old bog road brings the imposing northern scree slopes with a fantastic scramble and stunning views. Clambering through a window of rock and following precarious paths on the way to suddenly appear on the summit from a direction which may leave others wondering? Descent along the normal path, climbing Macknoght, descending to the beautiful Atlan Lough and following its shore back to Procklis Lough. A stunningly beautiful walk in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. A full route description with gps co-ordinates can be found here - http://mountainviews.ie/track/2223/

All on foot footage is captured with gopro hero and Drone footage is captured with elecam explorer at 1080p 30fps (have no money to buy a dji mavic pro or gopro hero 4 yet!) :) Enjoy!

Friday afternoon walk up Errigal in Co Donegal Ireland. Nice dusting of white with 50 mph winds.
An ascent of Tower Ridge on the north face of Errigal Mountain, County Donegal's highest point. Tower ridge involves 250 metres of steep ground, mountain scrambling and two pitches of easier technical rock climbing. The ridge finishes right of the summit of Errigal and is by far the best way to visit the summit of Donegal's highest mountain. A quick Video I took yesterday on top of a snow capped Errigal, couldn't think of a better song to go with it than Altan's Gleanntáin Ghlas' Ghaoth Dobhair.

Errigal is a 751-metre (2,464 ft) mountain in County Donegal, Ireland. We climbed it in March 2017 on a beautiful day. The distance from the carpark to the summit and return was approx 4.7km.The initial stage of the walk was really boggy and near the top the scree can be a bit tough on the way down too. Read more and check the photos and interactive map of the track at: http://www.allaroundireland.ie/walks-mount-errigal-donegal/

I watched Errigal over 6 hours on a long summer afternoon as it gradually became engulfed with clouds heading inland from the Atlantic. This spectacle is beautifully captured through the medium time-lapse photography and embodies the changing mood of Errigal over this time period. Errigal is Donegal's highest mountain at 751m. The Connoisseur walker will choose the indistinct path that faces NNE. However, for the more adventurous there is the NWMC Ridge which overlooks this indistinct path. This climbing route provides excellent scrambling in very exposed positions. In windy conditions, and for those with little or no climbing experience, a rope, harness and slings would be necessary. It is a thoroughly enjoyable route to the summit of Errigal.

This is a video we made walking around Dongal castle and town on a lovely summers day in July of 2011. Donegal town is situated in the north west of Ireland. The castle is in the center of the town. It was built by the O'Donnell chieftain in the 15th century, beside the River Eske, the Castle has extensive 17th century additions by Sir Basil Brooke. The Castle is furnished throughout and includes Persian rugs and French tapestries. Information panels chronicle the history of the Castle owners from the O'Donnell chieftains to the Brooke family. http://www.heritageireland.ie/en/north-west/donegalcastle/ Music: Gold by Interference Altanurgia by Ivan Granata Rosa Chilota by Anders Goday Carmina burana

The climb up Wittenberg Mountain from Woodland Valley in NY State. This is a 3.9 mile hike/climb. It's a very difficult climb but the payoff is gold. The best view in The Catskills. 2 hours north of NYC. A must conquer for a seasoned hiker. I'd recommend novice hikers to go with a minimum 2 companions. 10/10 trail!
