What does Boris think of your new project?
He was a little sceptical at the beginning. For him it was not always easy to work with me as singer, because I’m not a professional singer and he is used to work with electronic instruments and not with musicians. These instruments they do exactly what he wants and I had to do what he wanted. We tried to imply some of me, of course. I had to escape what he had in mind because I have my own ideas and this escaping for him gave him that idea that this was “Out of Chaos” and not very professional. So he was a little bit afraid of whether I could really manage to do this. But then he saw the first concert we did last year with a two man band, then he was very pleased that I was obviously able to do this and now he loves it and he thinks that it’s great that I have a chance finally to do what i really like; to be a tightrope walker in front of an audience.

Für die vierte Staffel "Bauerfeind assistiert" hat sich Katrin Bauerfeind wieder bei prominenten Chefs als Assistentin beworben - diesmal beim Schweizer Künstler und Musiker Dieter Meier. Bekannt wurde der mittlerweile 70-Jährige als Sänger der Band Yello. Heute züchtet er Rinder in Argentinien und betreibt mehrere Steak-Restaurants in Deutschland. Sein jüngstes Projekt: eine Bar in Berlin. Für die soll Katrin einen besonderen Cocktail kreieren. Dazu gehört natürlich auch noch die passenden Gläser zu besorgen. Dieter Meier vermarktet das Elektro-Pop-Duo Yello erfolgreich, und nicht nur dieses: Als Selbstdarsteller hat der 69jährige in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten die Rollen gewechselt wie andere ihre Outfits. Als Spielsüchtiger bezahlte er seine Gegner dafür, dass sie ihn beim Pokern herausforderten. Als Performancekünstler zählte er auf dem Zürcher Heimplatz Nägel. Er drehte Filme und später die Musikvideos, die Yello als avantgardistisches Gesamtkunstwerk so bekannt machten.
Dieter Meier ist aber auch leidenschaftlicher Biobauer und Familienmensch. Er führt Restaurants, ist erfolgreicher Unternehmer, wohnt in Argentinien, Los Angeles und Zürich. Und dazwischen findet er Zeit, an seinem ersten Soloalbum zu arbeiten: «Out Of Chaos» wird Ende Mai erscheinen. Die Platte benennt Meier, Sohn eines Privatbankiers, nach seinem Lebensmotto. Er erzählt Roger Schawinski, wie er sich auf der Suche nach dem Sinn des Lebens immer wieder neu erfand.

Dieter Meier, born in 1945, began his artistic career as a performance artist and experimental film maker. Since 1969 his work has been shown at film festivals and art exhibitions, such as: Kunstmuseum Luzern, 1970, Documenta 5 Kassel, 1972, Kunsthaus Zurich, 1976, Museum Tinguely Basel, 2007, and Sammlung Falckenberg/Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, 2011.
In 1979 he co-founded the music group Yello with Boris Blank, considered pioneers of electronic music, they are still internationally successful today. Dieter Meier has won various awards for his prolific output of music videos.
He has published numerous literary works: in 2006,“Hermes Baby”, a collection of stories and essays by Ammann Verlag, in 2011 “Out of Chaos” – an autobiographical picture book by Edel Verlag, and the monograph “Works 1968-2011 and the Yello Years” by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
In 2014, Meier released Out of Chaos, his first-ever full-length album of solo material.
Dieter Meier lives in Zurich and Argentina, where he produces organic beef and wine (“Ojo de Agua” and “Puro”).

Dieter Meier (born 4 March 1945, Zürich) is a Swiss musician and conceptual artist who is best known for being the front man in the electronic music group Yello, which also includes music producer Boris Blank. He is a vocalist and lyricist, as well as manager and producer of this music group.
Born to a millionaire family, Meier is not only a performance artist, but a millionaire industrialist[citation needed], a professional poker player[citation needed], and also one time member of the Swiss national golf team[citation needed]. He is the father of four children: Eleonore Meier, Sophie Meier, Anna Meier and Francis Meier. Dieter Meier now lives in Zurich with his wife Monique Meier.
As a conceptual artist, he has been keeping himself busy with many art exhibitions. In 1972 as part of Documenta 5, Meier installed a commemorative plaque at the railway station in Kassel (Germany) which read: "On 23 March 1994, from 3 to 4 pm, Dieter Meier will stand on this plaque". He honored the promise 22 years later.

What does Boris think of your new project? He was a little sceptical at the beginning. For him it was not always easy to work with me as singer, because I’m not a professional singer and he is used to work with electronic instruments and not with musicians. These instruments they do exactly what he wants and I had to do what he wanted. We tried to imply some of me, of course. I had to escape what he had in mind because I have my own ideas and this escaping for him gave him that idea that this was “Out of Chaos” and not very professional. So he was a little bit afraid of whether I could really manage to do this. But then he saw the first concert we did last year with a two man band, then he was very pleased that I was obviously able to do this and now he loves it and he thinks that it’s gre... -

Bekannt wurde der mittlerweile 70-Jährige als Sänger der Band Yello. Heute züchtet er Rinder in Argentinien und betreibt mehrere Steak-Restaurants in Deutschland. For him it was not always easy to work with me as singer, because I’m not a professional singer and he is used to work with electronic instruments and not with musicians. These instruments they do exactly what he wants and I had to do what he wanted. We tried to imply some of me, of course. I had to escape what he had in mind because I have my own ideas and this escaping for him gave him that idea that this was “Out of Chaos” and not very professional. So he was a little bit afraid of whether I could really manage to do this. But then he saw the first concert we did last year with a two man band, then he was very pleased that I was obviously able to do this and now he loves it and he thinks that it’s great that I have a chance finally to do what i really like; to be a tightrope walker in front of an audience.

He has published numerous literary works: in 2006,“Hermes Baby”, a collection of stories and essays by Ammann Verlag, in 2011 “Out of Chaos” – an autobiographical picture book by Edel Verlag, and the monograph “Works 1968-2011 and the Yello Years” by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
In 2014, Meier released Out of Chaos, his first-ever full-length album of solo material.
Dieter Meier lives in Zurich and Argentina, where he produces organic beef and wine (“Ojo de Agua” and “Puro”).

Dieter Meier, born in 1945, began his artistic career as a performance artist and experimental film maker. Since 1969 his work has been shown at film festivals and art exhibitions, such as: Kunstmuseum Luzern, 1970, Documenta 5 Kassel, 1972, Kunsthaus Zurich, 1976, Museum Tinguely Basel, 2007, and Sammlung Falckenberg/Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, 2011.
In 1979 he co-founded the music group Yello with Boris Blank, considered pioneers of electronic music, they are still internationally successful today. Dieter Meier has won various awards for his prolific output of music videos.
He has published numerous literary works: in 2006,“Hermes Baby”, a collection of stories and essays by Ammann Verlag, in 2011 “Out of Chaos” – an autobiographical picture book by Edel Verlag, and the monograph “Works 1968-2011 and the Yello Years” by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
In 2014, Meier released Out of Chaos, his first-ever full-length album of solo material.
Dieter Meier lives in Zurich and Argentina, where he produces organic beef and wine (“Ojo de Agua” and “Puro”).
