The Iraqi Turkmens, Iraqi Azerbaijanis, or Turks of Iraq, are the ethnic kin of the Turks and the third largest ethnic group in Iraq behind Arabs and Kurds. They mainly reside in northern Iraq and share close cultural ties with Turkey, Azerbaijan Republic, Iranian Azerbaijan, and the other Turkic countries. and linguistic ties with Azerbaijani, a Turkic language mutually intelligible with Istanbul Turkish, spoken mainly in Azerbaijan Republic and Iranian Azerbaijan.
The Iraqi Turkmen are the descendants of various waves of Turkic migration to Mesopotamia dating from the 7th century until Ottoman rule. The first wave of migration dates back to the 7th century when some 5,000 Turkmen soldiers were recruited in the Muslim armies of Ubayd-Allah ibn Ziyad; however, most of today's descendants of these first migrants have been assimilated into the local Arab population. The second wave of migrants were the Turks of the Great Seljuq Empire; finally, the third wave, and largest number of Turkmen migrants into Iraq arose during the Ottoman Empire. With the conquest of Iraq by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1534, followed by Sultan Murad IV's capture of Baghdad in 1638, a large influx of Turks settled down in the region. Thus, most of today's Iraqi Turkmen are the descendants of the Ottoman soldiers, traders and civil servants who were brought into Iraq during the rule of the Ottoman Empire.

Two suicide bombers in northern Iraq have killed several people as Iraqi Turkmen protested over what they saw as a lack of security.
The attackers walked into a camp on the main road between Baghdad and Kirkuk at Tuz Khurmato, 170 kilometres north of the capital. Protesters had gathered following an earlier fatal bombing in the town to demand better protection for the ethnic minority from the government.
A first blast ripped through a tent, followed by a second as people tried to take the wounded to hospital. Some reports say around 20 people including city officials have been killed.
Tuz Khurmato is an ethnically-mixed and territorially-disputed area where Kurds, Arab Sunnis and Shi'ite Turkmen rub shoulders.
Some of the injured were taken to Kirkuk, 90 kilometres to the north.

As the Syrian conflict enters its third year, the moderate opposition is crumbling. Worn down by fighting both the regime and radical Islamic groups, many have given up and are now fleeing for Turkey.
"In the worst, worst, worst possible outcome, the Syria of the future will be a lot better than when it was at the time of Assad and his regime", said Abu Baseer, founder and commander of the FSA-aligned Al-Izz Adbulsalam Brigade, during an interview in a base in the Turkmen mountains in April 2013. A few months later he was shot dead at the hands of ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The Free Syrian Army (FSA), a more moderate and secular part of the opposition, has been undermined by more radical groups like ISIS. "If you want to do anything, ISIL are standing in the middle", one fighter tells us. Until a few months ago they were ready to sacrifice their lives, now they have given up hope on a future in Syria and instead seek refuge in Turkey, where they are working. "Syria is now finished, I'm not even thinking of living in Syria now".

In 2014, Literacy Link South Central (LLSC) hosted a Job Creation Partnership (JCP) project to reach out to London's diverse multicultural communities, and share with them the benefits of adult literacy programming. LLSC's Marketing and Outreach team, with support from local cultural agencies the African Community Council, Latino-London Corporation, and Canadian Iraqi-Turkmen Culture Association (CITCAL), completed several initiatives including:
* attending and volunteering at local cultural events
* interviewing learners from various cultural backgrounds
* hosting multicultural events to gather perspectives and share information
* working with local community leaders to discuss what adult literacy programs have to offer.
As a result of their outreach efforts, the team developed a video campaign that showcases learners from various cultural backgrounds, literacy experts and community leaders sharing their stories about the impact of literacy on their communities. Through this campaign, Literacy Link South Central hopes to reach out to diverse multicultural communities, welcoming them to attend London’s many free adult literacy programs.
We welcome you to view the series of videos, and invite you to share them with the community members, clients, and friends you think may benefit from the message they contain. Using or reproducing these materials for profit is strictly prohibited.

This group of “Turks” boasted earlier that both Russian pilots ejected from the shot down Russian Su-24 jet were killed in the air from their bullets. However, that proved to be false after one of the pilots turned out to be alive and even gave an interview about the incident. And that’s not all. Apparently the commander of this militant pack Alpaslan “Celik” Steel is the son of a former Turkish mayor and is associated with the Turkish MHP party.

Battlefield Iraq: Heavy Intense Firefight Between Kurdish&Iraqi; Security Forces And IS In Kirkuk Iraq. Heavy Fighting And Firefight In Kirkuk Iraq as several Gunmen related to IS raided a mall located in Kirkuk province in Iraq. Civilian hostages were also taken.
As the clashes continued, gunmen, some of them wearing suicide vests, stormed the adjacent mall, took shoppers hostage and moved up the five-storey complex to the roof, from where they opened fire on security personnel who attempted to enter.
The gunfight lasted several hours and one armed militant was captured alive during the operation.
Kirkuk has a mixed population of Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen. Thats why the local Iraqi Security Forces had help from a Kurdish Unit.
Kirkuk lies at the centre of a swathe of territory stretching from Iraq's eastern border with Iran to its western frontier with Syria that Kurdish leaders want to incorporate into their autonomous region in the north over strenuous objections from the central government in Baghdad.
Militants often exploit poor communication between the Iraqi army and Kurdish security forces to carry out attacks in the city.
At least 19 people have been killed and 70 wounded after the siege on the Iraqi mall in the northern city of Kirkuk, as well as an attack on an intelligence HQ. Security forces have rescued 11 hostages, ending the mall siege.
Officials have blamed the upsurge in violence to a resurgent IS emboldened by the civil war in neighbouring Syria, but the government has itself faced criticism for not doing enough to address the concerns of Iraq's disaffected Sunni Arab minority ahead of April elections.
Despite a near-ubiquitous security force presence in major cities nationwide, attacks have hit targets ranging from cafes and football grounds to military checkpoints and government vehicles:
The violence has forced the authorities to appeal for international help in combatting militancy.
