This is a time-lapse movie of the building of the newest Royal Research Ship Discovery.
Launched in April 2012 and named on 10 Oct 2013, RRS Discovery is the newest addition to the UK's fleet of research vessels. She cost £75m and is designed to support world-leading marine research everywhere from tropical seas to polar oceans.
Her 100m length is packed with state-of-the-art scientific equipment, the infrastructure needed to deploy it and facilities to keep 28 scientists and 24 crew comfortable for up to 50 days at a time. With nearly 400m2 of permanent lab space and the ability to field specially designed container labs, Discovery enables research in disciplines including physical, biological and chemical oceanography, marine geology and geophysics, ocean engineering and atmospheric science.
As well as a sophisticated suite of internal equipment, the ship can deploy a range of remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles, and features dynamic positioning thrusters that can keep her in exactly the same position even in heavy seas.

"Discovery" had coal-fired auxiliary steam engines, but had to rely primarily on sail beause the coal bunkers did not have sufficient capacity to take the ship on long voyages. She was rigged as a bargue. According to Shackleton, the ship was a bad sailer, and carried too much sail aft and not enough forward; while Scott worried that the design of the ship's hull was unsuitable for work in pack ice. The ship had a massively built wooden hull designed to withstand being frozen into the ice. The propeller and rudder could be hoisted out of the way to prevent ice damage. Iron -shod bows were securely raked so that when ramming the ice they would ride up over the margin and crush the ice with deadweight. The Discovery rolled badly in the open sea where the flat shallow hull, built with no protuberances to work well in ice provided minimal stability in heavy seas. The hull was made from five different types of wood to better withstand the compression of the icepack. The keep was made from the trunk of a single eucalyptus tree. Ballast in the hull was created from old iron cannon balls. Ship was rigged for scientific studies. The metallic parts of the forward part of the ship were made from bronze (non-metallic) to include the crew bed rails and anchor links.
The British National Antarctic Expedition was acclaimed upon it's return but was also in serious financial trouble, and so in 1905, Discovery was sold to the Hudson's Bay Company who used her as a cargo vessel between London and Hudon Bay, Canada until the First World War, when she began carrying munitions to Russia. one of the masts was removed during her days as a cargo vessel with the Hudson' Bay Company to make room for more cargo. In 1916, she was loaned to the British Government to rescue Shackleton's party marooned on Elephant Island but they were rescued before she arrived. In 1917, she carried supples to the White Russians during the Russian Civil War. At the end of the hostilities Discovery was chartered by various companies for work in the Atlantic, but outdated and outclassed by more modern merchant vessels she was soon laid up, spending the early 1920's as the headquarters of the 16th Stepney Sea Scouts.
Since the 1990's. the Discovery Point museum has concentrated on interpreting the vessel on all of her voyages, with personal items from the ship's crew as well as information on her scientific activities. Items range from the games played by the crew on her first expedition to examples of sea fauna. Star objects on display including Captain Scott's rifle and pipe. Her three main voyages, the National Antaractic Expedition (1901-1904) the Discovery Oceanographic Expedition (1925-1927) and the Banzare expedition (1929-31), are all explored in the museum through film and photographic evidence with artefacts from each era represented. The museum also holds other pieces from Scott's subsequent Terra Nova expedition and Shackleton's Endurance expedition.

Launched in 1901 to carry Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their Discovery Expedition to the Antarctic, The ship is now the moored in her home port of Dundee alongside a visitor attraction detailing the work undertaken during the expedition.
My Short (filmed during a particularly heavy rain shower!) highlights the various parts of the ship and its rigging,
Particularly of note is the front bow section its ornate gold decoration, union jack flag motif and Discovery name proudly written in white upper-case letters across the bow.

The RRS Discovery was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in Britain. Designed for Antarctic research, she was launched in 1901. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their first, successful journey to the Antarctic, known as the Discovery Expedition. She is now the centrepiece of visitor attraction in her home, Dundee.
On 16 March 1900, in the context of significant donations to the approaching expedition by patrons Llewellyn W. Longstaff and the British Government, construction on the Discovery began in Dundee, Scotland, by the Dundee Shipbuilders Company. She was launched into the Firth of Tay on 21 March 1901 by Lady Markham, the wife of Sir Clements Markham, President of the Royal Geographical Society.

Captain James Cook, FRS, RN (7 November 1728 – 14 February 1779) was a British explorer, navigator and cartographer who ultimately rose to the rank of captain in the Royal Navy. Cook made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, during which he achieved the first European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, as well as the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand.
Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager and joined the Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years' War, and subsequently surveyed and mapped much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec. This helped bring Cook to the attention of the Admiralty and Royal Society. This notice came at a crucial moment in both Cook's career and the direction of British overseas exploration, and led to his commission in 1766 as commander of HM Bark Endeavour for the first of three Pacific voyages.
In three voyages Cook sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe. He mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean in greater detail and on a scale not previously achieved. As he progressed on his voyages of discovery he surveyed and named features, and recorded islands and coastlines on European maps for the first time. He displayed a combination of seamanship, superior surveying and cartographic skills, physical courage and an ability to lead men in adverse conditions.

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology was among the research institutes showcasing science on board RRS Discovery in London in October 2015. The state-of-the-art research vessel moored beside HMS Belfast on the river Thames for four days to celebrate 50 years of the Natural Environment Research Council. CEH staff brought a piece of the live environment on board with our fantastic beesocosm, complete with bees, butterflies, moths, grasshoppers, ladybirds and hoverflies as well as a variety of native wildflower plants. We also had air quality instrumentation and brand new flood modelling software on display. RRS Discovery construction time lapse
This is a time-lapse movie of the building of the newest Royal Research Ship Discovery. Launched in April 2012 and named on 10 Oct 2013, RRS Discovery is the newest addition to the UK's fleet of research vessels. She cost £75m and is designed to support world-leading marine research everywhere from tropical seas to polar oceans. Her 100m length is packed with state-of-the-art scientific equipment, the infrastructure needed to deploy it and facilities to keep 28 scientists and 24 crew comfortable for up to 50 days at a time. "Discovery" had coal-fired auxiliary steam engines, but had to rely primarily on sail beause the coal bunkers did not have sufficient capacity to take the ship on long voyages. She was rigged as a bargue. According to Shackleton, the ship was a bad sailer, and carried too much sail aft and not enough forward; while Scott worried that the design of the ship's hull was unsuitable for work in pack ice. The ship had a massively built wooden hull designed to withstand being frozen into the ice. The propeller and rudder could be hoisted out of the way to prevent ice damage. Iron -shod bows were securely raked so that when ramming the ice they would ride up over the margin and crush the ice with deadweight. Launched in 1901 to carry Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their Discovery Expedition to the Antarctic, The ship is now the moored in her home port of Dundee alongside a visitor attraction detailing the work undertaken during the expedition. My Short (filmed during a particularly heavy rain shower!) highlights the various parts of the ship and its rigging, Particularly of note is the front bow section its ornate gold decoration, union jack flag motif and Discovery name proudly written in white upper-case letters across the bow. -

Setting up on RRS Discovery
The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology was among the research institutes showcasing science on board RRS Discovery in London in October 2015. The state-of-the-art research vessel moored beside HMS Belfast on the river Thames for four days to celebrate 50 years of the Natural Environment Research Council. CEH staff brought a piece of the live environment on board with our fantastic beesocosm, complete with bees, butterflies, moths, grasshoppers, ladybirds and hoverflies as well as a variety of native wildflower plants. We also had air quality instrumentation and brand new flood modelling software on display. April 3rd 1983 was a special day for the people of Dundee. RRS Discovery, the most famous ship ever built there, was coming home after 85 years. Thousands thronged the shoreline to watch as slowly she was borne up the Tay by the floating dock Happy Mariner. Many were caught unawares that day by the emotion of the occasion. For the first time they could see for themselves the ship so closely associated with the ill-fated Captain Scott of the Antarctic. Could this surprisingly-small, ice-scarred vessel, so renowned for its past, carry the hopes of an entire community into a bright and prosperous future. RRS Discovery 326 - Introduction
The Discovery 326 cruise in the subtropical and tropical northeast Atlantic Ocean was undertaken as part of the UK SOLAS project (Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study, websites: www.solas-int.org and www.nerc.ac.uk/funding/thematics/solas/) to improve our understanding of the atmospheric transport, cycling and deposition of dust and nutrients into the North Atlantic, and the consequences of the nutrient inputs on surface water microbial communities. The cruise was funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). Journey to London
To celebrate 50 years of the Natural Environment Research Council, RRS Discovery is moored in London from Wednesday 7 October 2015 until 11 October for a series of events. Science and technology from all NERC Centres is showcased on board, and hundreds of members of the public, industry professionals and government stakeholders will take part in this rare visit. The journey took the ship through the iconic Thames Barrier, the operation of which is linked to the NOC’s forecasting systems. -

She was rigged as a bargue. The ship had a massively built wooden hull designed to withstand being frozen into the ice. The propeller and rudder could be hoisted out of the way to prevent ice damage. Iron -shod bows were securely raked so that when ramming the ice they would ride up over the margin and crush the ice with deadweight. The Discovery rolled badly in the open sea where the flat shallow hull, built with no protuberances to work well in ice provided minimal stability in heavy seas. The hull was made from five different types of wood to better withstand the compression of the icepack. The keep was made from the trunk of a single eucalyptus tree. Ballast in the hull was created from old iron cannon balls. Ship was rigged for scientific studies. The metallic parts of the forward part of the ship were made from bronze (non-metallic) to include the crew bed rails and anchor links.
The British National Antarctic Expedition was acclaimed upon it's return but was also in serious financial trouble, and so in 1905, Discovery was sold to the Hudson's Bay Company who used her as a cargo vessel between London and Hudon Bay, Canada until the First World War, when she began carrying munitions to Russia. one of the masts was removed during her days as a cargo vessel with the Hudson' Bay Company to make room for more cargo. In 1916, she was loaned to the British Government to rescue Shackleton's party marooned on Elephant Island but they were rescued before she arrived. In 1917, she carried supples to the White Russians during the Russian Civil War. At the end of the hostilities Discovery was chartered by various companies for work in the Atlantic, but outdated and outclassed by more modern merchant vessels she was soon laid up, spending the early 1920's as the headquarters of the 16th Stepney Sea Scouts.
Since the 1990's. the Discovery Point museum has concentrated on interpreting the vessel on all of her voyages, with personal items from the ship's crew as well as information on her scientific activities. Items range from the games played by the crew on her first expedition to examples of sea fauna. Star objects on display including Captain Scott's rifle and pipe. Her three main voyages, the National Antaractic Expedition (1901-1904) the Discovery Oceanographic Expedition (1925-1927) and the Banzare expedition (1929-31), are all explored in the museum through film and photographic evidence with artefacts from each era represented. The museum also holds other pieces from Scott's subsequent Terra Nova expedition and Shackleton's Endurance expedition.

Launched in 1901 to carry Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their Discovery Expedition to the Antarctic, The ship is now the moored in her home port of Dundee alongside a visitor attraction detailing the work undertaken during the expedition.
My Short (filmed during a particularly heavy rain shower!) highlights the various parts of the ship and its rigging,
Particularly of note is the front bow section its ornate gold decoration, union jack flag motif and Discovery name proudly written in white upper-case letters across the bow.

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology was among the research institutes showcasing science on board RRS Discovery in London in October 2015. The state-of-the-art research vessel moored beside HMS Belfast on the river Thames for four days to celebrate 50 years of the Natural Environment Research Council. CEH staff brought a piece of the live environment on board with our fantastic beesocosm, complete with bees, butterflies, moths, grasshoppers, ladybirds and hoverflies as well as a variety of native wildflower plants. We also had air quality instrumentation and brand new flood modelling software on display. Our timelapse video shows the CEH stand coming together - many thanks to the Discovery crew members who helped us with the set up!

April 3rd 1983 was a special day for the people of Dundee. RRS Discovery, the most famous ship ever built there, was coming home after 85 years. Thousands thronged the shoreline to watch as slowly she was borne up the Tay by the floating dock Happy Mariner.
Many were caught unawares that day by the emotion of the occasion. For the first time they could see for themselves the ship so closely associated with the ill-fated Captain Scott of the Antarctic. Could this surprisingly-small, ice-scarred vessel, so renowned for its past, carry the hopes of an entire community into a bright and prosperous future.
These were the thoughts that inspired the song, "Discovery," sung here by the Dundee band, Lowland Folk.

RRS Discovery was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in Britain. Designed for Antarctic research, she was launched as a Royal Research Ship (RRS) in 1901. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their first, successful journey to the Antarctic, known as the Discovery Expedition. She is now the centrepiece of visitor attraction in her home, Dundee. On 16 March 1900, in the context of significant donations to the approaching expedition by patrons Llewellyn W. Longstaff and the British Government, construction on the Discovery began in Dundee, Scotland, by the Dundee Shipbuilders Company. She was launched into the Firth of Tay on 21 March 1901 by Lady Markham, the wife of Sir Clements Markham, President of the Royal Geographical Society.
Discovery had coal-fired auxiliary steam engines, but had to rely primarily on sail because the coal bunkers did not have sufficient capacity to take the ship on long voyages. She was rigged as a barque. According to Shackleton, the ship was a bad sailer, and carried too much sail aft and not enough forward; while Scott worried that the design of the ship's hull was unsuitable for work in pack ice. The ship had a massively built wooden hull designed to withstand being frozen into the ice. The propeller and rudder could be hoisted out of the way to prevent ice damage. Iron-shod bows were severely raked so that when ramming the ice they would ride up over the margin and crush the ice with deadweight. The Discovery rolled badly in the open sea where the flat shallow hull, built with no protuberances to work well in ice, provided minimal stability in heavy seas. The hull was made from five different types of wood to better withstand the compression of the icepack. The keel was made from the trunk of a single eucalyptus tree. Ballast in the hull was created from old iron cannon balls. Ship was rigged for scientific studies. The metallic parts of the forward part of the ship were made from bronze (non-magnetic) to include the crew bed rails and anchor links.

The Travel Tart is a travel blog with a difference - think of it as a cross between Monty Python and Lonely Planet. The blog focuses on the funny, offbeat and downright weird aspects of world travel today. The website features funny travel photos, videos, stories, advice and tips which make fun of travel - because travel was meant to be fun and not taken too seriously!
The Travel Tart (sometimes known as Anthony) is a self-proclaimed travel addict who will find any excuse to go travelling.
He discovered he really enjoyed traveling the world when he was sent to a former war zone for work -- Kosovo -- as his first venture outside of Australia and New Zealand. This created a habit of visiting places that most package tourists avoid like the plague. He has since travelled to over 50 countries over six continents -- nowhere near enough!
While travelling, he likes risking his life by utilising barely road-worthy forms of transport such as African mini-buses, suicidal Cairo cabs, and flatulent camels. That's if he's lucky!
His foray into the travel writing world happened by accident -- his dodgy friends thought it was a good idea to convert his silly travel emails into something more substantial -- like articles, and a website.
But not an ordinary travel blog where there are boring anecdotes of places that everyone else has been to! No, he has an eye for the quirkiness of the world, wherever that may be, even his home country of Australia!
I even have an irregularly updated 'beer index' of the website, which lists a nominated beer of each country that I have visited in a price per litre. So the country with the cheapest beer wins! It's not necessarily an indication of quality, but hey, many people have commented that this is the best part of the website!

One of the cheapest and most reliable car rental places. It is very convenient and they have shuttles that pick and drop you off from and to the airport.

One of the cheapest and most reliable car rental places. It is very convenient and they have shuttles that pick and drop you off from and to the airport.
2) Airbnb Apartment
Not going to link it to the actual apartment as I wouldn't recommend it. The view is amazing but there is no internet. A lot of apartments around the area have amazing views and internet!

The game has different game modes, you can play the Career Mode if you want to expand and manage your own Space Center, taking on missions and researching new technologies. My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Les deux excursions les plus mémorables sont le snorkeling dans les eaux cristallines du Rio Sucuri et du Rio da Prata.
Toutes les excursions doivent être guidées et le nombre de visiteurs, pour chaque activité, est limité par jour, de façon à protéger le site.
Issues d'un relief karstique souterrain les eaux cristallines de ces rivières sont fortement minéralisées et leurs donnent cette magnifique couleur azur.
Ces rivières s'apparentent à des piscines naturelles remplies de poissons exotiques.
Les eaux limpides de ces rivières sont le résultat d'un heureux concours de circonstances: les rivières jaillissent de sources souterraines dans des couches calcaires qui libèrent du carbonate de calcium dans l'eau ; ce dernier calcifie toutes les impuretés qui se déposent sur le lit des cours d'eau. La région compte ainsi un grand nombre d'aquariums naturels bordés de forêts luxuriantes ; un environement d'exception pour étudier les poissons d'eau douce.

Owner description: The ecotourism operation at Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata follows the principles for sustainability. The tour is developed within a RPPN -- Private Reserve of Natural Heritage. Elected the Best Tourist Attraction of Brazil in 2008 and 2009 by readers of Brazil's most respected Travel Guide -- Guia 4 Rodas, the ranch also received awards for its environmental projects and social responsibility.
The marvelous Rio da Prata, 56km south of Bonito, includes a trek through rainforest and some great snorkeling. The latter involves a 3km float downstream along the Rio Olha d'Agua, amazingly crystal clear and full of fish; and Rio da Prata, a little foggier but still fantastic for viewing massive pacu and big, scary dourado.
If you only do one thing in Bonito, you could do a lot worse than taking the morning to the visit the Rio da Prata in Bonito. After a short trek through some woodland, which in itself is pleasant enough to merit a visit and contains one of the most picturesque waterfalls you're ever likely to see, you'll be treated to a 3km float down the crystal clear waters of the Rio Olha d'Agua and the Rio da Prata.
Between them they contain between them 55 colourful species of fish but even without the wildlife the underwater landscape is pretty stunning. It's amazing how clear the river is; due to natural filtration provided by limestone it's as clear as any artificial swimming pool. Possibly even clearer, in fact, as the high quality of sunlight really helps to highlight the colours and contrasts beneath the surface. Forget everything else, I could have spent hours just watching the rainbows ripple over the riverbed as I drifted peacefully along.
The tour starts with a trail through the gallery forest of the Rio da Prata (Prata river). Along the way, amidst the rich flora, it is possible to observe exotic birds, monkeys, tapir and other wild animals.
The trail leads to the main spring of Olho d'Água River where the snorkeling tour begins and where you will experience the sensation of floating in an immense aquarium of crystalline waters.
You will float downstream until the meeting point at the end of the tour while you enjoy the sight of dozens of different species of fish and aquatic plants...
To ensure quality, safety and respect for nature, the groups are limited to a maximum of nine visitors and are always accompanied by a specialized, local guide. The tour lasts approximately 3 hous and 30 minutes.

It's amazing how clear the river is; due to natural filtration provided by limestone it's as clear as any artificial swimming pool. Possibly even clearer, in fact, as the high quality of sunlight really helps to highlight the colours and contrasts beneath the surface. Forget everything else, I could have spent hours just watching the rainbows ripple over the riverbed as I drifted peacefully along.
The tour starts with a trail through the gallery forest of the Rio da Prata (Prata river). Along the way, amidst the rich flora, it is possible to observe exotic birds, monkeys, tapir and other wild animals.
The trail leads to the main spring of Olho d'Água River where the snorkeling tour begins and where you will experience the sensation of floating in an immense aquarium of crystalline waters.
You will float downstream until the meeting point at the end of the tour while you enjoy the sight of dozens of different species of fish and aquatic plants...
To ensure quality, safety and respect for nature, the groups are limited to a maximum of nine visitors and are always accompanied by a specialized, local guide. The tour lasts approximately 3 hous and 30 minutes.

Você se verá cercado por diversas espécies de peixes do Pantanal, como piraputangas, dourados, curimbatás, pintados, pacus, piaus, matogrossinhos, entre outros. Além de observar outras espécies de animais e aves, como o Biguatinga, Socó-boi, Acauã, Periquito-da-Serra. No Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata existem 200 espécies de aves registradas.
