Magic of Alaska Wildlife Photography Tour and Workshop: www.langellphotography.com Are you ready for a magical Alaskan photography experience at the height of the Summer Solstice? Join award-winning photographer, Lisa Langell, and six (6) participants on an intimate, incredible journey through some of Alaska’s most stunning scenery along the Kenai Peninsula. Your leader and primary guide, Lisa Langell, is known not only for her emotionally evocative wildlife images, but for her friendly, supportive and down-to-earth approach to helping you take your wildlife photography to the next level. Catering to the hobbyist through semi-professional photographer, this part-workshop / part-tour event will provide you with periodic tips and instruction along with plenty of time for you to photograph up to 50-90 species of birds and mammals against a backdrop of mountains, spruce forests, glaciers, rivers, lakes, fjords and marine vistas. We will travel by boat, vehicle, and float-plane to take you to these magical places, all while receiving the support of two photography instructors and various local guides to enrich your experience. June is also an excellent month for viewing young—we’ll look for bear cubs, moose calves, otter pups, chicks, goslings, ducklings, and more! Additionally, shooting during Summer Solstice offers about 20 hours of daylight, including spectacular “slow motion Magic Hours”—where the “Golden Hour” window of light last up to four hours at a time as the sun slowly rises and sets—enabling you to maximize the best light for photography in the Land of the Midnight Sun! Having traveled to Alaska nearly 40 times over the past eight years, Lisa has scoured the region to discover some of the best places for encountering and photographing moose, black bear, coastal brown bear, horned puffins, tufted puffins, Stellar’s sea lions (endangered), common murres, black-legged kittiwake, bald eagles, humpback whales, orca whales, Dall’s porpoise, sockeye salmon, northern sea otters, caribou, snowshoe hare, and other special species such as parakeet auklet, rhinoceros auklet, pigeon guillemot, pelagic cormorant, red-faced cormorant, Kittlitz’s murrelet, marbled murrelet, ancient murrelet, arctic tern, Aleutian tern, common loon, Pacific loon, red-throated loon, red-necked grebe, and 50-80 additional species of birds and mammals. We may also encounter Dall sheep, mountain goat, fin whale, lynx, wolves, porcupine, beaver, and other species that are occasionally spotted. Extending about 150-200 miles southwest of Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula is unique in that, other than polar bear and musk ox, every other species of mammal that resides within Alaska is found in the region. Though it is impossible to guarantee the sighting of any animal, you will be guided by boat, plane and car through an incredibly rich habitat that supports a diverse number of plants, animals, fish, birds, wildflowers, butterflies, and more. We’ll explore several important habitats between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula, including (but not limited to): • Kenai National Wildlife Refuge • Kenai Fjords National Park • Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge (Gulf of Alaska / Chiswell Islands) • Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge • Tony Knowles Coastal Trail • Resurrection Bay • Skilak Lake • Katchemak Bay / Homer Spit Lastly, you will be chauffeured in SUVs—not vans—ensuring you are comfortable, have personal space, and have your own door/window for easy entry/exit to capture images whenever we spot wildlife on our way to/from each daily excursion. You will also be staying in modern cabins, each with a kitchen, living room and full bathroom, situated along the banks of the serenely beautiful, world-renown Kenai River in Sterling, Alaska.
