On April 20th 1992, Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon, the surviving members of Queen, took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for the start of one of the biggest events in rock history, which the band had organised to pay tribute to their former colleague -- the incomparable Freddie Mercury. Queen were joined by some of the greatest musical talent in the world to celebrate Freddie's life and work and to increase public awareness of AIDS, the disease that had prematurely ended his life the previous year. As well as being great entertainment, the concert raised a huge and still growing sum of money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at the time whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world. Now for the first time both halves of the concert are being made available on Digital video.
Special guests include David Bowie, Gary Cherone, Roger Daltrey, Def Leppard, Joe Elliot, Extreme, Bob Geldof, Guns 'n' Roses, James Hetfield, Ian Hunter, Tony Iommi, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Metallica, George Michael, Liza Minnelli, Robert Plant, Mick Ronson, Axl Rose, Seal, Slash, Lisa Stansfield, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Young & Zucchero.

In this video guitar lesson we are going to take an in depth look at a hard rocking classic by Queen, "Tie Your Mother Down".
Released as the second single from their 1976 album A Day At The Races, "Tie Your Mother Down" quickly became a live staple of the band's throughout the rest of their career.
In this Tie Your Mother Down guitar lesson I will demonstrate how to play all the chords and rhythms to this Queen classic.
The song is dominated by guitarist Brian May's huge guitar riffs throughout. It is truly one of the heaviest songs Queen ever wrote.
The main focus when learning how to play "Tie Your Mother Down" should be getting the shuffle rhythm Brian May employs throughout most of the song to feel natural. In the video lesson I will demonstrate how to feel this rhythm properly so it shouldn't take you very long to understand it. Then after that, all of the left hand parts will seem to fit perfectly within that rhythm.
The opening riff consists of some open string pull-offs performed while you are holding down an A5 chord. This part of the opening riff will probably be the most challenging for you to time correctly due to the pull-offs. Just isolate that maneuver and practice it again and again in a loop and you should lock into the groove pretty quickly.
That opening riff's rhythm is broken up with some open position power chords played in a driving quarter note rhythm. Those chord changes go by pretty quick so make sure the movements to each chord are as economical as possible.
The second riff consists of some Chuck Berry style E5-E6 maneuvers that require a bit of a left hand stretch. Keep your thumb at about the middle of the back of the neck in order to comfortably perform that stretch.
Things move around quite a but with this riff including a section where Brain May performs a quick ascending chromatic lick that still employs the familiar shuffle rhythm. Pay close attention to this part of the lesson because it is at the part of the riff there is a small difference between the first and second time this riff occurs in the song. It is pretty easy to understand though. :)

Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British singer, songwriter and record producer, widely known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the rock band Queen — and widely known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range.
Mercury wrote, composed and performed numerous hits for Queen ("Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," "Somebody to Love," "Don't Stop Me Now," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," and "We Are the Champions."); occasionally served as a producer and guest musician (piano or vocals) for other artists; and concurrently led a solo career while performing with Queen.
Mercury was born of Persian descent in Tanzania and grew up there and in India until his mid-teens, before moving with his family to Middlesex, England — ultimately forming the band Queen in 1970 with Brian May and Roger Taylor. Mercury died in 1991 at age 45 from complications from AIDS, having acknowledged the day before his death that he'd contracted the disease.

As well as being great entertainment, the concert raised a huge and still growing sum of money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at the time whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world. Now for the first time both halves of the concert are being made available on Digital video.

In this video guitar lesson we are going to take an in depth look at a hard rocking classic by Queen, "Tie Your Mother Down".
Released as the second single from their 1976 album A Day At The Races, "Tie Your Mother Down" quickly became a live staple of the band's throughout the rest of their career.
In this Tie Your Mother Down guitar lesson I will demonstrate how to play all the chords and rhythms to this Queen classic.
The song is dominated by guitarist Brian May's huge guitar riffs throughout. It is truly one of the heaviest songs Queen ever wrote.
The main focus when learning how to play "Tie Your Mother Down" should be getting the shuffle rhythm Brian May employs throughout most of the song to feel natural. In the video lesson I will demonstrate how to feel this rhythm properly so it shouldn't take you very long to understand it. Then after that, all of the left hand parts will seem to fit perfectly within that rhythm.
The opening riff consists of some open string pull-offs performed while you are holding down an A5 chord. This part of the opening riff will probably be the most challenging for you to time correctly due to the pull-offs. Just isolate that maneuver and practice it again and again in a loop and you should lock into the groove pretty quickly.
That opening riff's rhythm is broken up with some open position power chords played in a driving quarter note rhythm. Those chord changes go by pretty quick so make sure the movements to each chord are as economical as possible.
The second riff consists of some Chuck Berry style E5-E6 maneuvers that require a bit of a left hand stretch. Keep your thumb at about the middle of the back of the neck in order to comfortably perform that stretch.
Things move around quite a but with this riff including a section where Brain May performs a quick ascending chromatic lick that still employs the familiar shuffle rhythm. Pay close attention to this part of the lesson because it is at the part of the riff there is a small difference between the first and second time this riff occurs in the song. It is pretty easy to understand though. :)

- "Audience Improv": A great improv, Freddie sounds strong and confident. You gotta love when he sustains that A4 for 4 seconds!
- "Hammer To Fall": Despite missing a verse and a chorus, it's a strong version (possibly the best ever). Freddie sings the song amazingly, and even ad-libs a C#5 and a C5! Also notice how heavy Brian's guitar sounds compared to the thin DVD mixes - it roars!
- "Crazy Little Thing Called Love": A great version, the crowd loves the song, the jam is great as well! Only downside to this is the slight feedback issues.
- "We Will Rock You": Although cut down to the 1st verse and chorus, Freddie sounds strong. He nails the A4, and the solo from Dr. May is brilliant!
- "We Are the Champions": Perhaps the high-light of the performance - Freddie is very daring on this version, he sustains the pre-chorus Bb4s, nails the 1st C5, belts great A4s, but most importantly: He nails the chorus Bb4s, in all 3 choruses! This is the only time he has ever done so! It has to be said though, the last one sounds a bit rough, but that's a side effect of belting high notes for the past 18 minutes, with nodules AND laryngitis!
- "Is This The World We Created... ?": Freddie and Brian perform a beautiful version of this, and it is one of the best versions ever. It's both sad and hilarious that a couple of BBC engineers are talking over the song, one of them being completely oblivious of the fact that he is interrupting the performance, on live television... Which was being televised to almost 2 billion homes.

- "Hammer To Fall": Despite missing a verse and a chorus, it's a strong version (possibly the best ever). Freddie sings the song amazingly, and even ad-libs a C#5 and a C5! Also notice how heavy Brian's guitar sounds compared to the thin DVD mixes - it roars!
- "Crazy Little Thing Called Love": A great version, the crowd loves the song, the jam is great as well! Only downside to this is the slight feedback issues.
- "We Will Rock You": Although cut down to the 1st verse and chorus, Freddie sounds strong. He nails the A4, and the solo from Dr. May is brilliant!
- "We Are the Champions": Perhaps the high-light of the performance - Freddie is very daring on this version, he sustains the pre-chorus Bb4s, nails the 1st C5, belts great A4s, but most importantly: He nails the chorus Bb4s, in all 3 choruses! This is the only time he has ever done so! It has to be said though, the last one sounds a bit rough, but that's a side effect of belting high notes for the past 18 minutes, with nodules AND laryngitis!
- "Is This The World We Created... ?": Freddie and Brian perform a beautiful version of this, and it is one of the best versions ever. It's both sad and hilarious that a couple of BBC engineers are talking over the song, one of them being completely oblivious of the fact that he is interrupting the performance, on live television... Which was being televised to almost 2 billion homes.

Freddie Mercury ( Farrokh Bulsara, en Guyaratí: Stone Town, Zanzíbar, 5 de septiembre de 1946, Kensington, Londres, Reino Unido, 24 de noviembre de 1991) Fue un Cantante, Compositor y Músico Británico de Origen Parsi e Indio, Conocido por Haber Sido el Fundador y Vocalista de la Banda de Rock Queen.
Reconocido por su Poderosa Voz y Extravagantes Puestas en Escena. Como compositor, escribió muchos de los éxitos de Queen, «Bohemian Rhapsody», «Killer Queen», «Somebody to Love», «Don't Stop Me Now», «Crazy Little Thing Called Love», «Innuendo» o «We Are the Champions». Además de la Actividad con la Banda, en los Años Ochenta lanzó su Carrera como solista, Que lo llevó a Publicar dos álbumes, Mr. Bad Guy (1985) y Barcelona(1988), este último en colaboración con la soprano española Montserrat Caballé.
El sencillo homónimo, una colaboración entre ambos, fue la canción oficial de los Juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona 1992.
Murió de una bronconeumonía complicada por el sida el 24 de noviembre de 1991, solo dos días después de comunicar oficialmente que padecía esta última enfermedad. En 2006, la revista Time Asia lo nombró como uno de los héroes asiáticos más influyentes de los últimos sesenta años.
2005, en una encuesta organizada por Blender y MTV, fue nombrado el mejor cantante masculino de todos los tiempos.
En 2008, la revista estadounidense Rolling Stone lo colocó en el puesto 18 en su lista de los 100 mejores cantantes de todos los tiempos.
Classic Rock, al año siguiente, lo consideró el mejor cantante de rock de la historia.
Por su parte, Allmusic definió a Mercury como «uno de los líderes más carismáticos y dinámicos en la historia del rock.
The Sun, que pretendía encontrar al «Máximo dios del Rock», situó a Mercury en el puesto número uno.

Mark initially came to me with an idea for making audio cassettes of guitarists explaining their techniques. It seemed a good one and we arranged to meet and make it happen. But I said ... if we’re going to the trouble of recording this stuff, why not film it as well, and make it into a Video Cassette ?! So we made a ‘pilot’ video, and people liked it, and this became the template for a whole collection of videos which, I think, stand up very well to this day.
Maybe we should do an update ?!
