Get ready for school with Ms Rachel and Elmo! We are so excited to share this special video that’s packed with learning, key skills to prepare for preschool and kindergarten and fun kids songs and nursery rhymes! Join Ms Rachel and Elmo in singing, “This Is The Way We Go To School,” “The ABC Song” and practice 30 preschool skills!
The episode starts with Ms Rachel helping Elmo with his morning routine before he goes off to school! They model each step to getting ready! Routines are so helpful for little ones! Some children benefit from visuals for each step. It can be helpful to practice your morning routine before school starts.
Next Ms Rachel and Elmo sing their ABCs together. (The Alphabet Song) This is a great song for your little one to know before they start school. Some children only know the letters in order. Practice recognizing them out of order as well!
Ms Rachel then models counting with cars and one to one correspondence, an important early math skill. Then we do our counting song, “1-20 Song.” Practice counting with your chid throughout the day, such as counting how many apples you are buying at the the store or how many stuffed animals your child is playing with.
Next Ms Ashley does a fun game with the letter B and we sing our Phonics Song together. Ms Rachel created a motion for each letter which helps children with memorizing their letter sounds.
Herbie then asks the children to help him figure out which words rhyme. Being able to identify and come up with rhymes is an important skill.
Next Ms Rachel models what a full day of school might look like. When children know what to expect, they feel more comfortable with new situations. Ms Rachel also mentions throughout the video that the child’s grown up will be coming back to get them and they will go home at the end of the day. It may help to bring a laminated family photo or a special stuffy from home.
Mr Aron then talks a bit about another preschool skill, opposites!
Next Ms Rachel teaches the days of the week and the months of the year with a catchy “Days of the Week Song” and “Months of The Year Song.” Kids songs & nursery rhymes are so helpful for learning.
We then talk once more about how first we go to school, then we go home at the end of the day. We are aiming with this video to help with butterflies and nervousness about being apart from parents and entering school.
Then we sing the classic kids song, “The Wheels on the Bus” This song is so great for practicing imitation and gestures and it’s so fun! Get ready to dance along!
Next Ms Rachel and Ashley model pretend play and teach the colors. Ms Rachel also models getting frustrated and taking a deep breath. As we mentioned, emotional regulation is such an important preschool skill. It’s actually the skill Kindergarten teachers said is the most important preschool skill in a survey.
We then sing “Bubble, Bubble Pop” a fun kids song that teaches colors and numbers.
Next Ms Ashley goes over how to raise your hand and plays a listening game.
After that Ms Rachel quizzes the children on whether they know their first name, last name, middle name and full name. She also encourages children to start learning to write their name. Give your toddlers large crayons to color with to strengthen fine motor skills.
Next we have a learning cartoon that practices knowing the concepts of same and different.
Then we move to practicing all of our phonics sounds and gestures! We take breaks throughout the alphabet and sing fun kids songs and nursery rhymes such as “Bingo,” “Lazy Lion” and “I’m So Happy.”
We go over sharing, trading and taking turns which are very important preschool prep skills that are often overlooked. When a child has good social skills and emotional regulation skills, they are more likely to succeed academically and make friends! Then we sing “I Could Be Your Friend” an original song!
Then we go over our shapes with a fun elephant toy, which is a great math preschool skill. We sing our kids song, “Square Song.” We also sing “If You Should Meet an Elephant.”
Next we talk about how it’s ok to have big feelings and sing our “Big Feelings” song. It’s normal to have big feelings, we just need tools to manage them.
Ms Rachel ends by sharing some of her experience with the first day of school and with some loving encouragement to the children watching!
We hope you enjoyed Ms Rachel + Sesame Street as much as we did!
This video is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers and even kindergarteners! In 1919 she returned to Israel, now under the British Mandate , as part of the 3rd wave of immigration. She joined her friends at Kibbutz Deganya, Israel's first Kibbutz. At first she was very happy but later she bacame more and more ill. Other members of the Kibbutz were afraid that they or the children might catch her illness and they ask her to leave the kibbbutz. Rachel moves to Tel Aviv and lives alone in a small room. During her final 6 years she writes most of her poems. Many of the poems are her memories from her happy days by lake Kinneret, other poems are about her unfulfilled dreams of love, a partner and a family. Rachel's poetry embraces many biblical images and nature descriptions. Although she came to Israel at the age of 19 she was able to write in most beautiful and accurate Hebrew. Her sensitive use of words and images are both breathtaking and emotional.
Rachel died in 1931 at the age of 40 and is buried at the Kinneret cemetery. Her grave draws Israelis of all ages. Next to her tomb there is a small bench with a metal box holding her poetry books and pictures. Rachel's picture is immortalized on Israel's 20 shekel banknote.

The Hebrew Poetry of ASMR
When we watch YouTube videos or search online for a different video we are often looking for information, recipes, music, gossip, news, any number of different types of content, but what about just trying to relax?
One of the newer online sensations is videos designed to help us relax, allowing us to experience a quiet tingling sensation spreading through our body, triggered by specific videos and sounds. This is called ASMR: autonomous sensory meridian response. So what does this really mean? It describes a certain feeling of serenity that is achieved by listening to specific soothing sounds, designed to lull you into a state of relaxation.
There are many different themes to these videos of ASMR; it can be anything from the soft rustling of office papers, footsteps in the snow, and ambient bird calls, to waves breaking on the beach and soft whispers. The visual of these videos can also be very different; everything from beauty videos to artistic creations or various everyday actions such as brushing hair or flipping pages of a book.
The purpose of these videos is to trigger a certain reaction in the listeners. Typically, it begins with a tingling in the scalp which moves down the arms and legs to the rest of the body, leaving you with a feeling of complete relaxation. For this reason, ASMR videos can also be used as a way to combat insomnia.
This ASMR video is of a Hebrew poem, written in 1927, by Rachel Bluwstein, who in Hebrew was also known as Rachel the Poetess. Born in Russia at the end of the 19th century, she came to Palestine in 1909 for the first time where she and her sister first lived in Rehovot, before moving to the shores of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). She later moved to France to study agriculture and then went back to Russia during World War I when she could not get back to Palestine. After the war she managed to get back to Palestine, where it soon became apparent she had contracted tuberculosis, which was at that time an incurable disease. Rachel lived in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv before finally succumbing to the disease in 1931.
Rachel started writing poems early in life in Russian and later continued in Hebrew. Her poems, published weekly in a newspaper called Davar, have various themes; often speaking of missed opportunities, or being set in Israel’s pastoral countryside. Her poems are characterized by their simple language and deep emotion and several of them have been set to music and are included in the mandatory curriculum of Israeli schools.
This poem, Kinneret, focuses on the landscape of Israel, the natural world, and the changes that take place over time. The first stanzas of Rachel’s poem, describe the shores of the Kinneret, their proximity to the Golan mountains, the palm trees at the shore and the winter flowers. In the last stanza, she speaks to the Kinneret in second person, directly addressing it, which has the effect of transforming this moment into an ever-present event.
The last words of Kinneret are “And this first kindness / Could I forget?”. This phrase, referring to the beauty of the environment, is a biblical quote from Jeremiah, where God remembers the kindness of Israel’s youth. In Jeremiah, nature serves as a background, but in her poem, Rachel brings the environment to the foreground as the agent of kindness.
This ASMR poem is read with great emotion and expression that brings to mind the quiet beauty of the Kinneret. In the background, are the faint sounds of water trickling, which paint the perfect picture of the peace on the shores of the Galilee, allowing you to relax as you call to mind an image of the tranquility of Rachel’s Kinneret.

The Hebrew Poetry of ASMR
When we watch YouTube videos or search online for different video we are often looking for information, recipes, music, gossip, news, any number of different types of content, but what about just trying to relax?
