New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
CKMM-FM is a contemporary hit radio station owned by Bell Media, branded as 103.1 Virgin Radio. The station broadcasts from 1445 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba with sister stations 99.9 BOB FM and TSN Radio 1290.
CKMM-FM primarily competes with Energy 106.
CKMM-FM first started broadcasting in Winnipeg as CKWG-FM, with a near freeform format. The call signs have changed quite a bit over the years, from CHZZ-FM (Z103) to CKLU-FM (103 U FM, then briefly Mix 103) and then finally to CKMM-FM. In 1996, the station switched to a country music format with the on-air name Star 103. When Star 103 and QX 104 came under the ownership of Craig Broadcasting, the format of Star 103 was changed to avoid redundancy. CKMM re-launched with a contemporary hit radio format as HOT 103 on New Year's Eve, 1997. CKMM and CFQX became properties of Standard Radio in 2002.
On October 29, 2007, Astral Media took over CKMM as a result of a buyout of Standard Radio. As part of Astral's merger with Bell Media on June 27, 2013, CKMM is now owned by Bell Media. Sister station CFQX and Bell's CHIQ were sold to the Jim Pattison Group in order to meet ownership limits.

A slice of New York from the early 1990,s. Edited clips from a few hours of recordings i made from the Astra satellite of this station. I believe the feeds were used in clubs around Europe . I dont think they were live but must have been played out somewhere in Europe and uplinked to Astra. It was unusual as all the adds were left in though. The transmissions were in mono I have a longer clip of material on my channel uploaded by request, Check out Cecelias website dedicated to the old Hot 97 http://theoriginalwqht.co.nr/

Its focus was to have a more interactive element where each program has an home audience participation game where two clues to a rock star are given in its weekly sweepstakes by calling a 900 number for the chance to win prizes. This episode features a hosts of hot music videos, the popularity of the Swatch, and interviews with Sergeant Slaughter, Yoko Ono, Simon Le Bon, and Chris Jasper. Dear Fans, My deep appreciation and love for all types of music was cultivated by 107.5 WBLS's legendary deejay Frankie Crocker, but my career as a deejay officially began while listening to Disco 92 - WKTU FM, the station that forever changed the New York City dance music and mixing landscape. I faithfully listened to "Rosko", Paco and his "Super Mixes", Carlos De Jesus, G. Keith Alexander, Joe Causi, and Al Bandero, just to name a few. However, it was Ted Currier, Jenny Costa, Aldo Marin, the Latin Rascals, and the Dynamic Duo that mesmerized and influenced me with their groundbreaking mixing techniques. I proudly salute the station and the deejays with this special mix. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Track Listing 1. Sylvester - Disco Heat 2. Sylvester - You Make Me Feel...
