Here are the actual typed formulas for the third layer:
1. Making the cross: F R U R' U' F'
(Dot [in any orientation], then L shape [with tips pointing down and to the right], and then the [horizontal] line)
2. Aligning the cross: R U2 R' U' R U' R'
(One correct piece facing you and one facing away, then one incorrect facing you and one to the right)
3. Placing corners: L' U R U' L U R' U'
(Any orientation if all corners false. Otherwise, correct corner on bottom right)
4. Final Step: R U2 R' U' R U' R' L' U2 L U L' U L
(Keep false corners on bottom right and, if possible, top right)

The vast majority of people who tackle the Rubik's cube never succeed in solving it without looking up somebody else's solution. In this video the Mathologer reveals a simple insight that will enable all those of you who can solve the first layer to design your own full solution for the Rubik's cube, as well as for many other highly symmetric twisty puzzles.

Rubik's Cube is a 3-D mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube", the puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold by Ideal Toy Corp. in 1980 and won the German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle that year. As of January 2009, 350 million cubes had been sold worldwide making it the world's top-selling puzzle game. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy.
In a classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered by nine stickers, each of one of six solid colours (traditionally white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow). A pivot mechanism enables each face to turn independently, thus mixing up the colours. For the puzzle to be solved, each face must be returned to consisting of one colour. Similar puzzles have now been produced with various numbers of stickers, not all of them by Rubik.
In March 1970, Larry Nichols invented a 2×2×2 "Puzzle with Pieces Rotatable in Groups" and filed a Canadian patent application for it. Nichols's cube was held together with magnets. Nichols was granted U.S. Patent 3,655,201 on April 11, 1972, two years before Rubik invented his Cube.

Solve The Rubiks Cube With 2 Moves!
This is one of the best kept secrets with the rubiks cube. Anyone can solve the rubiks cube without studying or having to learn complicated algorithms. You must start with a solved cube for this to work. As long as you repeat the moves, the cube will return to the solved state. You can try different moves besides the 2 moves in the video.
