Ibn Battuta

Ibn Baṭūṭah (/ˌɪbənbætˈtuːtɑː/ Arabic: أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله اللواتي الطنجي بن بطوطة‎, ʾAbū ʿAbd al-Lāh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Lāh l-Lawātī ṭ-Ṭanǧī ibn Baṭūṭah), or simply Muhammad Ibn Battuta (ابن بطوطة) (February 25, 1304 – 1368 or 1369), was a Medieval Muslim traveler and scholar, who is widely recognised as one of the greatest travelers of all time. He is known for his extensive travels, accounts of which were published in the Rihla (lit. "Journey"). Over a period of thirty years, Ibn Battuta visited most of the known Islamic world as well as many non-Muslim lands. His journeys included trips to North Africa, the Horn of Africa, West Africa and Eastern Europe, and to the Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and China.

Early life and first hajj

All that is known about Ibn Battuta's life comes from the autobiographical information included in the account of his travels, which records that he was of Berber descent, born into a family of Islamic legal scholars in Tangier, Morocco, on February 25, 1304, during the reign of the Marinid dynasty. He claimed descent from a Berber tribe known as the Lawata. As a young man he would have studied at a Sunni Maliki madh'hab (Islamic jurisprudence school), the dominant form of education in North Africa at that time. In June 1325, at the age of twenty-one, Ibn Battuta set off from his hometown on a hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca, a journey that would take sixteen months. He would not see Morocco again for twenty-four years.

A growing retirement and family city, Las Vegas is the 29th-most populous city in the United States, with a population of 603,488 at the 2013 United States Census Estimates. The 2013 population of the Las Vegas metropolitan area was 2,027,828. The city is one of the top three leading destinations in the United States for conventions, business, and meetings. In addition, the city's metropolitan area has more AAA Five Diamond hotels than any other city in the world, and is a global leader in the hospitality industry. Today, Las Vegas is one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is an American teen drama television series based on the book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. The series, created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, originally ran on The CW for six seasons from September 19, 2007 to December 17, 2012. Narrated by the omniscient blogger "Gossip Girl", voiced by Kristen Bell, the series revolves around the fictional lives of privileged adolescents living in Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The series begins with the return of Upper East Side it girl Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) from a "mysterious absence." Gossip Girl reveals that Serena has been away at boarding school in Cornwall, Connecticut, but not everyone welcomes Serena back to Manhattan with open arms. Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), whom creators describe as being "at the center of their chess game," is The queen bee of Constance Saint Jude prep school's social scene. She also happens to be the childhood "best friend" and occasional rival of Serena van der Woodsen. The story also follows scholarship student Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), who is a self-described "outsider" from Brooklyn, Blair's first love and the so-called "golden boy", Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), and the "bad boy" heir apparent Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), who is also part of "Manhattan's elite". Other characters of the turbulent Manhattan scene: Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr), Dan's childhood best friend. Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen), Dan's adolescent sister who the 'Queen B' dubs as 'Little J'. Lily van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford), Serena's mother and heiress, and Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle), former 90's band 'Lincoln Hawk' frontrunner and an independent art gallery owner in Manhattan. He is Dan and Jenny's father and primary guardian. Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski) is Blair's primary housekeeper since her youth.
