Outside (jazz)

In jazz improvisation, outside playing, describes an approach where one plays over a scale, mode or chord that is harmonically distant from the given chord. There are several common techniques to playing outside, that include side-stepping or side-slipping, superimposition of Coltrane changes, and polytonality.

Side-slipping

The term side-slipping or side-stepping has been used to describe several similar yet distinct methods of playing outside. In one version, one plays only the five "'wrong'" non-scale notes for the given chord and none of the seven scale or three to four chord tones, given that there are twelve notes in the equal tempered scale and heptatonic scales are generally used. Another technique described as sideslipping is the addition of distant ii-V relationships, such as a half-step above the original ii-V. This increases chromatic tension as it first moves away and then towards the tonic. Lastly, side-slipping can be described as playing in a scale a half-step above or below a given chord, before resolving, creating tension and release.

Inside (David Sanborn album)

Inside is a studio album by David Sanborn, released through Elektra Records in 1999. In 2000, the album won Sanborn the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance.

Scott Tracy

Scott Tracy is a fictional character in Gerry Anderson's 1960s Supermarionation television series Thunderbirds, the subsequent films Thunderbirds Are Go and Thunderbird 6 and the TV remake Thunderbirds Are Go!. He is the pilot of the primary vehicle of the Thunderbird fleet, Thunderbird 1. His specialist training is as a First Responder and Team Leader.

Character biography

The eldest son of Jeff Tracy (founder and financier of International Rescue), Scott is named after American astronaut Scott Carpenter. Sources vary in the canon of the Thunderbirds series as to Scott's age and birth date. One written source suggests that Scott was born on 4 April 2039, making him 26 years old.

Educated at Yale and Oxford Universities, Scott was decorated for valour during his service with the United States Air Force before taking up his duties with International Rescue. As pilot of the quick response craft Thunderbird 1, he is usually first at the danger zone and typically serves as field commander on all rescue operations. He also takes on secondary duties as co-pilot of the spacecraft Thunderbird 3, is an occasional relief occupant of the Thunderbird 5 space station, and leads the organisation from Tracy Island when his father is absent.

The Scott Motorcycle Company

The Scott Motorcycle Company was owned by Scott Motors (Saltaire) Limited, Shipley, West Yorkshire, England and was a well-known producer of motorcycles and light engines for industry. Founded by Alfred Angas Scott in 1908 as the Scott Engineering Company in Bradford, Yorkshire, Scott motorcycles were produced until 1978.

Scott's inspiration

In an article in Motor Cycle magazine in 1914, Alfred Scott wrote that he was drawn to the two-stroke engine because he was trained on high speed steam and marine engines, and when turning his attention to gas and petrol engines the regular power strokes of the two-stroke (or Day cycle as he sometimes called it), seemed preferable to the one power stroke in four of the Otto cycle. He said this attraction to the two stroke was further enhanced by the reliable and excellent service from a two stroke engine designed by his brother (A. F. Scott M.I.M.E) and used to drive machinery in his experimental workshop.

Stay (SafetySuit song)

"Stay" is the second single by alternative rock band SafetySuit, off of their debut album Life Left To Go.

It has peaked at #44 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs, #92 on the Pop 100 chart, and #17 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart.

Music video

A music video was released on April 23, 2009, directed by Zack Merck. The video starts off with Doug Brown in a room with a bloody mouth. It then shows Doug with a woman driving a car on a desert road. It switches to this story and the band playing outside a motel throughout the video. Later on in the video, they are in a room at the motel. When the woman leaves the room Doug notices a large amount of money in her luggage bag. He is visibly upset when she enters the room. She is happy as she tosses him a stack of hundreds. He then shows her his police badge, which makes her shocked and upset. As she tries to leave, Doug stops her, handing her rope. She is distraught as she proceeds to tie him to a chair. She then hits Doug with a sculpture of an eagle. He is shown bleeding as he was at the beginning of the video. She then kisses Doug and leaves. After a short time, police show up to the scene and untie him. They look at him and he shakes his head no. The video ends as the police are leaving and Doug gets in a car.

Stay is Jeremy Camp's second studio album and his first major-label studio album, released in 2002.
