Ibrahim Ferrer (February 20, 1927 – August 6, 2005) was a popular Afro-Cuban singer and musician in Cuba. He performed with many musical groups including the Conjunto Sorpresa, Orquesta Chepin-Choven and Afro-Cuban All Stars. Later in life, Ferrer became a member of the internationally successful Buena Vista Social Club.
Ferrer was born at a dance in San Luis, near the city of Santiago de Cuba. His mother died when he was 12, leaving him orphaned and forcing him to sing on the streets (busk) to earn money. The next year, Ferrer joined his first ever musical group—a duet with his cousin—called Jovenes del Son (Spanish: Youths of Rhythm). They performed at private functions and the two youths managed to scrape together enough money to live.
Over the next few years, Ferrer would perform with many musical groups, including Conjunto Sorpresa and Orquesta Chepin-Choven.
The leader of the latter composed one of Ferrer's biggest hits, El Platanal de Bartolo.
Ferrer was an adherent of the Santería faith, a blending of traditional African religions and Catholicism.
Ibrahim Ferrer's solo debut, produced in Havana by Ry Cooder, features an extraordinary stylistic range of music, from nostalgic 1950's big band, to stunning ballads, to the rich, country-style son that made the first Buena Vista Social Club album a hit around the world, and won a new audience for traditional Cuban music. Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer singing Marieta. Lyrics in English Chorus- I like it when Marieta dances Listen, Ibrahim, you're singing great. Teresita, let me introduce Marieta. That rhythm's really wild. Who doesn't like to dance with Marieta? I've got some evil ways that upset even me. (X2) I retire to my bed but wake up in another's. I like it when Marieta dances. I like to sing for Marieta. Listen, Marieta everyone wants to dance with you. This song is really tasty. Let's tell everybody about Marieta. Last night I was celebrating a special saint's night. I could smell the cod and I said: "They're cooking over there." And I burst into song to remember it better but it turned out that what I could smell was a pot of boiling underclothes That bla...

coro: A mi me gusta que baíle Marieta
Oye, Ibrahim, tú me cantas sabroso.
Teresita, te voy a presentar a Marieta.
Ese ritmo si está resalao
A quién no le gusta baílar con Marieta?
Yo tengo una mala maña
que a mí misma me da pena. (2x)
Que yo me acuesto en mí cama
y amanezco en cama ajena
A mí me gusta que baile Marieta
A mí me gusta cantar
pa'Marieta
Oye Marieta,
todo el mundo quiere bailar contigo.
Este son sí está muy sabroso.
Vamos conocer todo el mundo a Marieta.
Anoche estava fiestando
en un santo celebrado
sentí olor a bacalao,
dije: allí están cocinando.
T así me exploté cantando
para acordarme mejor,
y resulta que el olor
que estava allí sucediendo
es que había una lata hierviendo
llena de ropa interior.
Esa negra sí está bailadora.
Teresa, vas a conoscer pronto a Marieta.
Oye Ibrahim
ya yo la estoy conociendo.
Voy a sacarte pesaje
para que veas a Marieta.
Mi mamá me dijo a mí
que cantar y que gozara.
Mi mamá me dijo a mí
que cantara y qye gozara,
pero que nunca me metiera
- oye, Ibrahim -
en camísa de once varas.
Por eso quiero conocer a Marieta.
Yo sé que tú la conoces muy sabroso.
Mentira, Teresita.
yo no conozco a Marieta.
Que tú te estás haciendo, Ibrahim
el bobo.
Mi mujer se me enfermó
el corazón en La Habana.
Y el médico ena mañana
vino y la reconoció.
El vestido le quitó
bloomer también y refajo
pero al ver yo aquel relajo
pero al ver yo auel relajo
dije: eso no me conviene
creo que mi mujer no tiene
el corazón tan abajo.
Oye, Galbán, vamos a ver a Marieta.
coro: Con Marieta
Oye, yo voy a ir a Holguín.
Mira qué rico está.
Teresita, te voy a llevar.
Ibrahim, quería cantar.
contigo mucho más.
Mentira, tu puedes bailar.
Contigo yo quiero gozar.
Con Marieta vamos a guarachar.
Vamos todos, vamos todos a cumbanchar.
A Holguín yo te voy a llevar.
Oye, con tu bastoncito, Ibrahím
yo voy a buscar.
Qué rico, qué bueno
Marieta, te voy a buscar.
Qué le pasa a Marieta?
Vamos con ella a bailar.
