Don Wildman

Don Wildman (born March 27, 1961) is the current host and narrator of Off Limits,Mysteries at the Museum, and Monumental Mysteries on the Travel Channel. He also hosted and narrated Weird Travels that formerly aired on the Travel Channel. Most of Wildman's shows, like Off Limits and Cities of the Underworld for example, feature him exploring various holes and forbidden locations. Most of his recent programming follows a mysterious or paranormal theme.

Early life

Wildman was raised in Pitman, New Jersey and is a 1979 graduate of Westtown School, a Quaker boarding school located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He also attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana (another Quaker school) and trained as an actor at The Drama Studio in London, England.

Travel Channel

Travel Channel (originally The Travel Channel from 1987 to 1999) is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned as a joint venture between Scripps Networks Interactive (which owns 65% of the network) and Cox Communications (which owns the remaining 35% interest). The channel is headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland, United States.

It features documentaries, reality, and how-to shows related to travel and leisure around the United States and throughout the world. Programming has included shows on African animal safaris, tours of grand hotels and resorts, visits to significant cities and towns across the world, programming about various foods across the world, and programming about ghosts and the paranormal in notable buildings.

History

The Travel Channel was launched on February 1, 1987; it was founded by Trans World Airlines, presumably to boost airline patronage. The channel's name was derived from the travel-related filler programming that aired between programs on the Home Theater Network. TWA purchased the name rights from Group W Satellite Communications in 1986, and took over HTN's transponder spot following the shutdown of the premium cable channel in January 1987. The network was later sold to Landmark Communications, then-owner of The Weather Channel, and eventually to Paxson Communications.

Mysteries at the Monument

Mysteries at the Monument (formerly Monumental Mysteries) is an American reality television series currently airing on the Travel Channel and is hosted by Don Wildman. The show uncovers stories of history and unsolved mysteries behind America's national monuments. The series premiered on May 9, 2013, at 9:00 p.m. EST. The second season aired on June 13, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. EST. For Season 3, which premiered July 3, 2015, the series was renamed.

Premise

Host Don Wildman travels the country for America's most amazing and unusual national monuments, uncovering the histories and mysteries hidden within. Each episode features a monument, historical marker, landmark, sculpture, or statue that has a special story or unique secret about them.

Note: Monumental Mysteries: A Mystery at the Museum Special aired on July 17, 2012 as a special episode apart of the related Travel Channel Mysteries at the Museum series. The special also served as a spin-off episode for the first season premiere of Monumental Mysteries in 2013. It's also called Mysteries at the Museum: Monumental Mysteries Special.

Mysteries at the Museum is an hour-long television program on the Travel Channel which features museum artifacts of unusual or mysterious origins.

Plot

Each episode is focused on interesting and unusual artifacts held in museums. The show is hosted by Don Wildman and consists of over 80 episodes spread throughout seven seasons. The shows executive producer is David Gerber and it is produced by Optomen Productions under the executive producers Nicola Moody and Dominic Stobart.

Legacy

Mysteries at the Museum is a successful series and spawned a spin-off from its Monumental Mysteries:A Mysteries at the Museum special called Monumental Mysteries. Monumental Mysteries and two other Travel channel series called Hotel Secrets & Legends and Castle Secrets & Legends have been renamed Mysteries at the Monument, Mysteries at the Hotel, and Mysteries at the Castle, respectively, to capitalize on Mysteries at the Museum's name. A conspiracy show called Mysteries at the National Parks has also been developed and broadcast. The show also spawned a series of specials such as the Greatest Mysteries specials.
