Compay Segundo fue el trovador más viejo y famoso del mundo. Guitarrista, clarinetista y compositor. Músico de larga trayectoria y compositor con más de cien creaciones musicales entre las que se destacan los sones Sarandonga, La Calabaza y Saludo Compay.
Heredó el saber hacer de los trovadores tradicionales de Santiago de Cuba, cuna del son y del bolero. Poseía la mirada de un joven, pero con el saber estar de lo pasado por la vida. Pasó a la inmortalidad el 14 de julio del 2003 en el barrio de Miramar, La Habana, a los 95 años de edad.

Francisco Repilado Muñoz expresó sus principios en las letras de sus canciones con la aplastante convicción del adolescente que a los 14 años tituló su primera composición "Yo Vengo Aquí para Cantar", o con la sencillez del artista veterano que en un pasaje de "Sabroso" declara "La franqueza vale mucho y la mentira muy poco" e hizo valer ambas cosas a lo largo de su fructífera vida. Inspirado e infatigable creador popular, inventó su propio instrumento, el armónico, síntesis entre la guitarra y el tres y reinterpretó el "Son" introduciendo una variedad de su propia inspiración conocida como "Coge el Paso", la cadencia y el sello personal del Compay Segundo.
Compay Segundo fue el artista cubano más internacionalmente famoso
y activo hasta sus 95 años de edad cuando murió en 2003.
Su éxito mundial le vino en 1997 cuando tenía 70 años y desde entonces ha vendido más de 3 millones de discos en todo el mundo.
Ahora se cumple el 10 º aniversario de su muerte y para recordarlo se edita un álbum titulado "Guantanamera - The Essential Album" que recoge sus 20 mejores canciones, incluyendo el tema ¿Y tú que has Hecho? perteneciente al disco Buena Vista Social Club con el que consiguió un Grammy en 1997. Compay Segundo (Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz, Siboney, Cuba 18 November 1907 – Havana, 13 July 2003) was a Cuban trova guitarist, singer and composer.
Compay Segundo, so called because he was always second voice in his musical partnerships, moved to Santiago de Cuba at age 9. His first engagement was in the Municipal Band of Santiago de Cuba, directed by his teacher, Enrique Bueno. After a spell in a quintet he moved to Havana in 1934, where he also played in the Municipal Band, on the clarinet. He also learned to play the guitar and the tres: these became his usual instruments. Compay Segundo was also the inventor of the armónico, a seven-stringed guitar-like instrument, created to eliminate a harmonic jump in the Spanish guitar and the tres. In the 1950s he became well known as the second voice and tres player in Los Compadres, a duo he formed with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo in 1947.
Los Compadres were one of the most successful Cuban duos of their time. Greater international fame came later, in 1997, with the release of the Buena Vista Social Club album, a hugely successful recording which won several Grammy awards. Compay Segundo appeared in the film of the same title, made subsequently by Wim Wenders.

Reyleon président de l'association Salsa Vexin et animateur de la radio du même nom, vous livre son entretenu avec Salvador Repilado Labrada directeur et contrebassiste du Grupo Compay Segundo. Ce dernier est fils du célèbre Compay Segundo (Buena Vista Social Club) qui a pris la direction du groupe depuis la disparution de son père. La salle de spectacles le Forum de Vauréal (Val d'Oise), a lors de festivités de ses 20 ans reçu ce groupe pour un concert le 18 mai 2014. Merci aux organisateurs, et managers d'avoir permis à notre radio associative Radio Salsa Vexin de rencontrer et interviewer les membres de ce groupe à quelques minutes du concert. His first engagement was in the Municipal Band of Santiago de Cuba, directed by his teacher, Enrique Bueno. After a spell in a quintet he moved to Havana in 1934, where he also played in the Municipal Band, on the clarinet. He also learnt to play the guitar and the tres: these became his usual instruments. Compay Segundo was also the inventor of the armónico, a seven-stringed guitar-like instrument, created to eliminate a harmonic jump in the Spanish guitar and the tres. Buena Vista Social Club era um clube de dança e atividades musicais de Havana em Cuba, local onde os músicos se encontravam e tocavam na década de 40, entre eles Manuel "Puntillita" Licea, Compay Segundo, Rubén González, Ibrahim Ferrer, Pío Leyva, Anga Díaz. Compay Segundo (Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz, Siboney, Cuba 18 November 1907 Havana, 13 July 2003) was a Cuban trova guitarist and composer.Compay Segundo, so called because he was always second voice in his musical partnerships, moved to Santiago de Cuba at age 9. His first engagement was in the Municipal Band of Santiago de Cuba, directed by his teacher, Enrique Bueno. After a spell in a quintet he moved to Havana in 1934, where he also played in the Municipal Band, on the clarinet. He also learnt to play the guitar and the tres: these became his usual instruments. Compay Segundo was also the inventor of the armónico, a seven-stringed guitar-like instrument, created to eliminate a harmonic jump in the Spanish guitar and the tres. In the 1950s he became well-known as the second voice and tres player in Los Compadres, a duo he formed with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo in 1947. Los Compadres were one of the most successful Cuban duos of their time. Greater international fame came later, in 1997, with the release of the Buena Vista Social Club album, a hugely successful recording which won several Grammy awards. Compay Segundo appeared in the film of the same title, made subsequently by Wim Wenders. Segundo's most famous composition is Chan Chan, the opening track on the Buena Vista Social Club album, whose four opening chords are instantly recognizable all over the world. Chan Chan was recorded by Segundo himself various times as well as by countless other Latin artists. Other compositions are Saradonga, La calabaza, Hey caramba, Macusa, Saludo Compay. These are all sones, and this differentiates him from the more usual trova musicians, with their devotion to the bolero. However, it seems his interests went much further: I have danzones, waltzes, sones. I have some beautiful danzones. Why? Because I've learned from those who know how to preserve the tradition of the music. I play music the way it was played in yesteryear. I started out playing the son corto (short son). As Miguel Matamoros used to say, "The son is short and sweet"... Back in the day, they'd start out playing son at seven in the evening, and they'd greet the dawn with it. PBS Interview with Compay. At a fiesta he sang to President Fidel Castro, who took his pulse and joked about his vitality despite his 90-plus years. "Who could have imagined that?" he asked when he found himself at the Vatican City, performing Chan Chan before Pope John Paul II. He explained his longevity simply: mutton consommé and a drink of rum. He predicted that he would live to be 115, but died of kidney failure in Havana, twenty years short of his ambition. O disco, chamado Buena Vista Social Club tornou-se um sucesso internacional.
Foi quando então o diretor alemão Wim Wenders filmou a apresentação do grupo na Holanda, e uma segunda apresentação no famoso Carnegie Hall em Nova York, transformando num documentário, acompanhado de entrevistas feitas em Havana com os músicos.

Début 97 Rhany s'envole pour Paris et enregistre son album qu'il terminera à Los Angeles. Entouré de musiciens talentueux, le disque verra le jour en 98. Après la sortie d'un best of en 99 au Maroc, de nombreux concerts ont lieu sur les plus grandes scènes parisiennes dont Bercy. L'année 2000 arrive et sera consacrée a la création de son nouvel album.
Passionné par la musique latine, Rhany est parvenu après des années de travail et de recherche a unir culture ensoleillée et rythmes endiablés. L'enregistrement aura lieu à Cuba au studio Egrem répute pour ses productions et artistes légendaires (Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Buenaventura...). Son tempérament joyeux et chaleureux est à l'image de sa musique, un mélange de salsa et de rythmes orientaux.
