African Tribe
On this page is a list of a few of the estimated three thousand African tribes. On this African tribe list we have included some of the largest, most interesting, and best known tribal groups. There is a brief description of each tribe. If a name is highlighted you may click on it for more detailed information. We will periodically be adding more information about the people of Africa.
Afar
This tribe can be found on the horn of Africa in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Somalia. They traditionally have been organized into separate kingdoms, each ruled by its own Sultan. They are pastoralists.
Ethiopia women of Africa ..
Amhara
The Amahara are Ethiopia's dominant ethnic group. They are mainly found in the central highland plateau of Ethiopia.
Anlo-Ewe
These people can be found in the Republic of Ghana. Before Europeans began their colonization of Africa the Ashanti developed an influential empire in West Africa.
Ashanti
These people of Africa also go by the name Asante. They are found mostly in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Before the colonization of Africa by the Europeans the Ashanti people created a large empire in West Africa.
Berber
The Berber are the indigenous inhabitants of North Africa (west of the Nile) and have existed in Africa since at least 3000 BC. They are scattered across Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.
Dogon Tribe
These people live in the cliffs of Southeastern Mali south of the Niger near the city of Bandiagara. The Dogon are a major tourist attraction for Mali. This tribe is known for their mask dances, architecture, and wooden sculptures.
Dinka
These people who refer to themselves as Muonyjang are the largest ethnic tribe in South Sudan. They live in the Bahr el Ghazal region in the Nile basin, Jonglei, southern Kordufan and the Upper Nile region.
Fang
The Fang people live in forest clearings in the humid rainforests of Gabon. They are perhaps best known for the guardian figures which they attached to wooden boxes holding their ancestor’s bones.
Maasai
This ethnic group once occupied large areas of East Africa. They are known as great warriors and herders.
Pygmies
These people, known for their small size, live in central and western Africa. There are many pygmy tribes including the Bambuti, Bayaka, Batwa, and the Bagyeli.
San
An African tribe list would not be complete without including the San who are also referred to as Bushmen, Barwa, Sho, Kung, or Khwe. They live in the Kalahari desert and are the oldest inhabitants of South Africa. This group of people were traditionally hunters and gathers but in modern day have become farmers.
Tutsi
This tribe is also referred to as the Watutsi or Watutsi. In Rwanda and Burundi they are the 2nd largest caste. The largest caste is the Hutu and the smallest is the Twa.
Zulu
They are the largest ethnic group in South Africa, numbering about 10 million. Most of the Zulu live in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

From then on, the male will urinate from the underside of his penis instead of the urethra. The real question, however, is how does destroying a boy's 'manhood' bring him into manhood? Like seriously....
2. The Trobrianders
These islanders from a remote tribe in Papua seem like a case study in the ultimate consequences of the sexual revolution: girls want sex just as much as guys, and kids start having sex at a very young age — 6-8 for the girls and 10-12 for the guys — with no social stigma. There are few customs about dating to inhibit “hooking up” and, of course, revealing clothing has been taken to its limit, with girls actually going topless. Well damn.....
3. The Sambians
To become a man in this primitive tribe, boys are removed from the presence of all females at the age of seven, living with other males for ten years. During the ten years, the skin is pierced to remove any contamination brought upon by women. For the same reason, they also regularly incur nose-bleeding and vomiting caused by consuming large amounts of sugarcane.To top it off, they are required to ingest the semen of their elders, which is thought to sustain growth and strength. Ohhkayyy......
4. The Wodaabee
In the Wodaabe tribe in West Africa, men are known to steal each other's wives. The Wodaabe's first marriage is arranged by their parents in infancy and must be between cousins of the same lineage. However, at the yearly Gerewol Festival, Wodaabe men wear elaborate makeup and costumes and dance to impress the women – and hopefully steal a new wife.
5. Saut d'Eau
If you travel to Haiti and visit the waterfalls of Saut d'Eau during the month of July, you may witness quite a ritual. Voodoo practitioners make this journey each summer to worship the goddess of love. Pretty normal stuff, right? Well, not quite. Just picture a bunch of naked people twisting and moving around in mixed mud with the blood of sacrificed animals, including cow and goat heads thrown into the mix. I'm sure there's nothing like it. The continent's inhabitants live amid deserts and jungles, as well as in modern cities across the continent.
Perhaps it is a function of the number of excavations actually performed in given areas, but it is at least suggestive that the five very earliest out of the twelve of earliest archaeological discoveries of Homo sapiens sapiens have been in Africa and the adjacent Arabian peninsula.

In Greek mythology, Nyx (Νύξ, "night"), Nox in Roman translation, is the deity of the night. A shadowy figure, Nyx stood at or near the beginning of creation, and was the mother of personified gods such as Hypnos (sleep) and Thánatos (death). African Tribe
On this page is a list of a few of the estimated three thousand African tribes. On this African tribe list we have included some of the largest, most interesting, and best known tribal groups. There is a brief description of each tribe. If a name is highlighted you may click on it for more detailed information. We will periodically be adding more information about the people of Africa.
Afar
This tribe can be found on the horn of Africa in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Somalia. They traditionally have been organized into separate kingdoms, each ruled by its own Sultan. They are pastoralists.
Ethiopia women of Africa ..
Amhara
The Amahara are Ethiopia's dominant ethnic group. They are mainly found in the central highland plateau of Ethiopia.
Anlo-Ewe
These people can be found in the Republic of Ghana. Before Europeans began their colonization of Africa the Ashanti developed an influential empire in West Africa.
Ashanti
These people of Africa also go by the name Asante. They are found mostly in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Before the colonization of Africa by the Europeans the Ashanti people created a large empire in West Africa.
Berber
The Berber are the indigenous inhabitants of North Africa (west of the Nile) and have existed in Africa since at least 3000 BC. They are scattered across Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.
Dogon Tribe
These people live in the cliffs of Southeastern Mali south of the Niger near the city of Bandiagara. The Dogon are a major tourist attraction for Mali. This tribe is known for their mask dances, architecture, and wooden sculptures.
Dinka
These people who refer to themselves as Muonyjang are the largest ethnic tribe in South Sudan. They live in the Bahr el Ghazal region in the Nile basin, Jonglei, southern Kordufan and the Upper Nile region.
Fang
The Fang people live in forest clearings in the humid rainforests of Gabon. They are perhaps best known for the guardian figures which they attached to wooden boxes holding their ancestor’s bones.
Maasai
This ethnic group once occupied large areas of East Africa. They are known as great warriors and herders.
Pygmies
These people, known for their small size, live in central and western Africa. There are many pygmy tribes including the Bambuti, Bayaka, Batwa, and the Bagyeli.
San
An African tribe list would not be complete without including the San who are also referred to as Bushmen, Barwa, Sho, Kung, or Khwe. They live in the Kalahari desert and are the oldest inhabitants of South Africa. This group of people were traditionally hunters and gathers but in modern day have become farmers.
Tutsi
This tribe is also referred to as the Watutsi or Watutsi. In Rwanda and Burundi they are the 2nd largest caste. The largest caste is the Hutu and the smallest is the Twa.
Zulu
They are the largest ethnic group in South Africa, numbering about 10 million. Most of the Zulu live in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

2. The Trobrianders
These islanders from a remote tribe in Papua seem like a case study in the ultimate consequences of the sexual revolution: girls want sex just as much as guys, and kids start having sex at a very young age — 6-8 for the girls and 10-12 for the guys — with no social stigma. There are few customs about dating to inhibit “hooking up” and, of course, revealing clothing has been taken to its limit, with girls actually going topless. Well damn.....
3. The Sambians
To become a man in this primitive tribe, boys are removed from the presence of all females at the age of seven, living with other males for ten years. During the ten years, the skin is pierced to remove any contamination brought upon by women. For the same reason, they also regularly incur nose-bleeding and vomiting caused by consuming large amounts of sugarcane.To top it off, they are required to ingest the semen of their elders, which is thought to sustain growth and strength. Ohhkayyy......
4. The Wodaabee
In the Wodaabe tribe in West Africa, men are known to steal each other's wives. The Wodaabe's first marriage is arranged by their parents in infancy and must be between cousins of the same lineage. However, at the yearly Gerewol Festival, Wodaabe men wear elaborate makeup and costumes and dance to impress the women – and hopefully steal a new wife.
5. Saut d'Eau
If you travel to Haiti and visit the waterfalls of Saut d'Eau during the month of July, you may witness quite a ritual. Voodoo practitioners make this journey each summer to worship the goddess of love. Pretty normal stuff, right? Well, not quite. Just picture a bunch of naked people twisting and moving around in mixed mud with the blood of sacrificed animals, including cow and goat heads thrown into the mix. I'm sure there's nothing like it.
