Albert Lieven (22 June 1906 – 22 December 1971) was a German actor. He was born Albert Fritz Liévin in Hohenstein, East Prussia. He died in London, England. He was married four times, including to the actresses Susan Shaw and Valerie White.
He started his screen career in the German film Annemarie, die Braut der Kompanie (Bride of the Company) in 1932. During the next four years he appeared in another sixteen films, including the German film adaptation of Charley's Aunt. Owing to the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany and his wife Tatjana being Jewish, he moved to Britain in 1937. He spent the years of the Second World War (1939 to 1945) though mainly in roles depicting Nazis in British films, not finding them overly challenging as an actor.
He appeared on the London stage in 1939 in the comedy Rake's Progress (Not the later Rex Harrison film of the same title), but was largely acting in films (among them The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, 1943). He appeared in many cinema productions, and in the year 1940, he was credited in seven, in all of which he played the role of a German.
The Lievens (Latvian Līveni; Swedish Liewen) are one of the oldest aristocratic families of Baltic Germans. Caupo's grandson, Nicholas, was the first to spell his name Lieven.
They claim descent from Caupo of Turaida (Latvian, Kaupo), the Livonian quasi rex who converted to Christianity in 1186, when Bishop Meinhard attempted to Christianize the region. Henrici Chronicon Lyvoniae tells that Caupo in winter 1203-1204 went to Rome with Theodoric, a Cistercian Monk (who was to become the founder of the Swordbrothers, then the first bishop of Estonia). They were received by the Pope Innocent III who backed up their plans to Christianize Livonia.
According to feudal records, the Lieven ancestor Gerardus Līvo (1269) and his son Johannes (1296) entered service as vassals to the archbishop of Rīga. One of Caupo's daughters married an ancestor of the barons, then Earl Ungern-Sternberg.
Reinhold Liewen, the Swedish governor of Oesel (Saaremaa), in 1653 was made a baron together with his brother, whose son Lieutenant-General Baron Hans Heinrich von Liewen accompanied Charles XII in all his campaigns and expeditions. Among Reinhold's descendants, one branch settled in Courland and was recognized in 1801 as in the Holy Roman Empire. Johann-Christoph von Lieven was the first member of the family to gain distinction in the Russian service: he served as Governor of Arkhangelsk under Catherine the Great and as General of Infantry under Emperor Paul.
Curd Gustav Andreas Gottlieb Franz Jürgens (13 December 1915 – 18 June 1982) was a German-Austrian stage and film actor. He was usually billed in English-speaking films as Curt Jurgens.
Jürgens was born on 13 December 1915 in the Munich borough of Solln, Kingdom of Bavaria, German Empire. His father, Kurt, was a trader from Hamburg, and his mother, Marie-Albertine, was a French teacher. He began his working career as a journalist before becoming an actor at the urging of his actress wife, Louise Basler. He spent much of his early acting career on the stage in Vienna.
Jürgens was critical of National Socialism in his native Germany. In 1944, he was sent to an internment camp in Hungary as a "political unreliable".
Jürgens became an Austrian citizen after the war.
Like many multilingual German-speaking actors, Jürgens went on to play soldiers in many war films. Notable performances in this vein include his breakthrough screen role in Des Teufels General (1955, The Devil's General), a fictional portrayal of World War I flying ace and World War II Luftwaffe general Ernst Udet, followed by the Roger Vadim French film Et Dieu... créa la femme (And God Created Woman) starring Brigitte Bardot.

Regie ...
Susan Shaw was an underrated and versatile actress of the late 40s and 50s who had a unfortunately short career and died in 1978. She had an early marriage to actor Albert Lieven and then was married to American actor Bonar Colleano with whom she had a son, who also became an actor, but she never seemed to recover from the shock of Colleano's death in a road accident in 1958 although her career was virtually over by then. She died penniless at the sadly young age of 49 - even her funeral was paid for by the Rank Organisation. Susan started her career with a bit part in the overly-hyped and ill-remembered British musical "London Town" but her first substantial role was in "Holiday Camp", first of the "Huggett" quartet in which she played a continuing role in the following three films. Somet...

Quantum theory says that an electron can be in two different places at once. But do you believe this? Does it bother you, and why? It certainly did bother Einstein. For much of the 20th century, precisely this point was hotly debated among the greatest minds on the planet. Eventually, experiments left no doubt: we better get used to the wonderfully strange ideas of quantum theory. In Lievens research, he goes beyond surprise and asks himself how to use quantum behavior for doing things that are otherwise impossible and how and when quantum mechanics may show up in your life. Regarding Lieven Vandersypen Lieven Vandersypen (Leuven, 1972) is a professor of Quantum Nanoscience at the Kavli Institute of NanoScience at TU Delft. Led by his fascination for quantum theory, he explores how to mak...

When Jules Evans was in his late teens, he started to be plagued by panic attacks, mood swings and other emotional problems. He eventually found help in the form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). He went to interview the inventors of CBT, and discovered they were directly inspired by ancient Greek philosophy. This started him on a five-year journey of discovery, in which he found out how life-transforming the ideas of ancient Greek philosophy can be. He met and interviewed people from many walks of life who claimed to have been greatly helped by ancient philosophy, including gangsters, astronauts, soldiers and politicians. Now, he passionately believes that the therapeutic ideas of ancient philosophy need to be rescued from the dusty museum cabinets of academia, and brought to as man...

During the conference "Quantum Theory without Observers III" (ZiF, Bielefeld, 22.04.-26.04.2013) several interviews with participants were recorded. The following questions were asked: 1. What first stimulated your interest in the foundations of quantum mechanics? 2. Which theory comes closest to your idea of a quantum theory? 3. Is the role of randomness special in quantum physics? 4. What are the implications of Bell's inequalities for our view of the world? 5. What are the most pressing problems in the foundations of quantum mechanics today? For more information have a look at the conference website http://www.mathematik.uni-muenchen.de/~bohmmech/bielefeld
Enkele regels: - Het kroontje is verplicht.
