Portadown (from Irish Port a' Dúnáin, meaning "landing place of the little fort") is a town in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The town sits on the River Bann in the north of the county, about 24 miles (39 km) southwest of Belfast. It is in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area and had a population of about 22,000 at the 2011 Census. For some purposes, Portadown is treated as part of the "Craigavon Urban Area", alongside Craigavon and Lurgan.
Although Portadown can trace its origins to the early 17th century Plantation of Ulster, it was not until the Victorian era and the arrival of the railway that it became a major town. It earned the nickname "hub of the North" due to it being a major railway junction; where the Great Northern Railway's line diverged for Belfast, Dublin, Armagh and Derry. In the 19th and 20th centuries Portadown was also a major centre for the production of textiles (mainly linen).
The IRA bombing campaign Portadown was greatly affected by the Provisional IRA's bombing campaign from 1970 onwards.Large swathes of the High Street and West Street were destroyed on several occasions by large explosions from car/van bombs and improvised explosive devices as were a number of side streets and at various locations elsewhere in the town. The biggest bomb of them all, was the IRA bomb of May 1993. Wikipedia

English/Nat XFA Northern Ireland on Saturday was poised for a tense weekend, ahead of Sunday's controversial Orangemen march. Authorities have warned that small groups of dissident loyalists are planning to cause trouble. The British army has deployed extra troops from the mainland to contain trouble - as marchers have been banned from Catholic nationalist Garvaghy Road in Portadown. British Army soldiers and the Royal Ulster Constabulary have begun deploying in Ireland ahead of Sunday's controversial Orangemen march. Around 2,000 extra British Army troops have been drafted into Northern Ireland. Orangemen are furious their march has been banned from the Catholic nationalist Garvaghy Road in Portadown. Both Catholics and Protestants fear there'll be violence this...
English/Nat Up to 11 police officers and three civilians were hurt in Northern Ireland on Saturday during six hours of rioting in the main Catholic section of Portadown. Violence erupted on the Garvaghy Road when up to 400 Catholics objected to a march by the youth wing of the Orange Order, Northern Ireland's main fraternal organisation. Portadown is a centre of rural Protestant opposition to compromises with the north's Catholic community. For the past three summers Protestant marchers such as these youths from the Orange Order have sparked off sectarian violence as they've marched up the Garvaghy Road. This time the police tried to keep the two sides apart, but ended up caught in the middle. Both sides hurled petrol and paint bombs, stones and bottles at officers. P...

June 1951, a memorable day and week for our Town, Portadown welcomed HM Queen Elizabeth and the Princess Margaret at the start of Festival of Britain week celebrations. The original plan was that Her Majesty would have accompanied King George VI, unfortunately he was ill and unable to travel and in the circumstances The Princess Margaret accompanied her mother. The King never recovered from his illness and sadly died 8 months later on the 6th, February 1952; he was succeeded by our present Queen Elizabeth II. These six clips show various celebrations which took place in Portadown during that week. How many of us remember those events? I do, even though I was only ten years of age then. Each clip is 7 minutes long, so clear some time to view the complete 40 minutes in six parts...

English/Nat Three decades of sectarian violence in Belfast had traditionally served to keep the tourists away. But now it seems the legacy of those very troubles may in fact be Northern Ireland's main attraction. Tour guides are catering to tourist demands to see the sites that for so long dominated television news. And some residents are even turning their homes into bed & breakfasts to cash in on the new tourist boom. Shankhill Road - Belfast's Protestant area and domain of the Ulster Loyalist paramilitaries. For nearly three decades, sectarian killings and violence deterred even the most adventurous tourist. But since the ceasefire, the number of visitors venturing to Northern Ireland has increased. Many seem to be keen to witness the scenes where much of the ...

Baby GoPro Adventure - Noah's First Holiday Wanted to make a film with my son on his first ever holiday, capture a new perspective and remember the fun and experiences of traveling with 7 month old. Was an amazing holiday and would really recommend Benidorm(Spain) for families and all age groups, they really have some thing for everyone. Filming with a 7 month old Filming an infant has some difficulties but can be a lot of fun. One difficultly is putting on the head mount, if baby is tried or hungry there is just no joy, when doing this I found the best thing to do was to try and distract him with a toy (an iPad works well too) but once its on he's good to go. A 7 month old has fairly good neck strength and can cope with the weight of a GoPro on his head but I had put it on him at...
I dont need no hook for this track
i scream psalm 23 and leave em acting like Jordan was back
I scream Christ because its neccessary, without Him homies is dying looking like Jayz fadn the black
So i came to change perspectives
i come preaching the Christ, the True Messiah who dont hang from ya necklace
I mic 2,1 check this
cause dudes is unsecure and wide open like the boarderlines of Texas
I see you tip-tipping dipping curves in ya lexis
sin gotcha covered from ya feet to where ya neck is
So we like Abraham riding to rescue Lot
preaching the good news to homies that's on block
Cause homies hustling hurriedly running against the clock
in custody of iniquity check the time on ya watch
You can tell that it's time for change
gone sell out to God, and let His love nickel and dime ya mayne
Chorus- I dont need no hook fa dis
all i need is da Holy Ghost and 66 books for dis
I got the cure for da crook wit this, i preach Christ to the masses, and getcha off the hook wit this
I preach Christ the Nazarene, dawg, the Son of the Blessed
the incardinated Word of God seen in the flesh
So when He speak we listen, cause His words bring life, and He's more than a prophet, He aint david corresh
But He's the Truth and the Life, we down to die for the Dude
believeing the good news, we dont follow for the food. But we follow with a zeal, for our sins He were bruised
and we follow cause of faith, no pictures no clues
We surrendered like war criminals, know what He do
like walking on water, we dont even say it was the shoes
We promote mankind, accept the Father of time, Who tossed the demons to swine
Who turned the water to wine
Who give the sight to the blind
when othas want to stone you for adultary, He neal in the sand and draw lines
Yeah, we throw them crosses up like it's a piru sign
listen homie, you need the blood but not the dimu kind, gnah
Chorus- I dont need no hook fa dis
all i need is da Holy Ghost and 66 books for dis
I got the cure for da crook wit this, i preach Christ to the masses, and getcha off the hook wit this
