Ipid finalises investigation into Du Noon mistaken identity shooting

CAPE TOWN – Police watchdog, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), said it has finalised an investigation into the fatal shooting of a woman in Du Noon, allegedly by a police officer.

Last month, police opened fire on a vehicle which was transporting Nandos employees home after their shift.

In a separate incident yesterday, officers allegedly shot dead two McDonald’s employees in a similar case of mistaken identity in Blue Downs.

Three other people were also wounded, while two suspected robbers were gunned down in Mfuleni.

Ipid’s Robbie Raburabu said they have completed a probe into the fatal shooting of a Nandos employee in Du Noon about two weeks ago.

“The investigation from our side is complete, we’re just waiting for those witnesses that were supposed to be consulting with their counsel before they can talk to us. The appointment is sometime this week with them.”

Police had allegedly mistaken the taxi workers had been travelling in for one involved in an ATM robbery.

Meanwhile, two people were killed yesterday when police allegedly shot at a taxi transporting McDonald’s employees during a high speed chase.

 

Officers had been tracking armed robbers who had robbed a Caltex filling station in Kuils River.
