Scotland's Prehistoric Nativi Gypsy Tinkler 'Jews'- protected by the St.Clairs and Robert the Bruce.
Johnnie Faa of
Dunbar was leader of the '
Egyptians',
or Gypsies, in Scotland. Faa was granted a letter under the
Privy Seal from
King James IV in February 1540, which was renewed in 1553. It was addressed to "oure louit Johnne Faw, lord and erle of Litill
Egipt" establishing his authority over all
Gypsies in Scotland and calling on all sheriffs in the country to assist him "in executione of justice upoun his company and folkis", who were to "conforme to the lawis of Egipt".

"This tradition, whatever may have started it, is very common in the
Highlands." It is to be observed that this writer was quite unaware of the fact that such a tradition was widespread among the
Continental Gypsies. His statement, therefore, shows what appears to be an old tradition of the
Scottish tinkers; and this derives an added interest from the uncertainty as to how far that caste ought to be regarded as of genuine
Gypsy 14. "

When Christ was being taken to the tree of crucifixion, in the hurry the
black
Jews forgot to provide themselves with nails. They went to the
blacksmith and asked him to make nails to nail the hands and the feet
of the
Saviour to the cross. But the blacksmith refused to make nails for
such a purpose. The Jews went to the whitesmith (tinsmith, tinker) and
asked him to make nails to nail the hands and the feet of the Saviour to
the cross. The whitesmith did the work as the Jews asked of him, and the
hands and the feet of Christ the blessed Saviour were nailed to the tree of
crucifixion. This is why the blacksmith is esteemed and honoured among
men, while the whitesmith is contemned and despised, and this is why the
race of the whitesmith is spread and scattered here and there throughout
the great world

As with most oral histories, there were immediate discrepancies. The oldest Gypsy story I heard was: "
In the beginning the Jews were Gypsies, and the Gypsies were Jews until God made us change places
." A possible Jewish origin for Gypsies has always intrigued me because many of the
Holocaust survivors who were born in the wagon told me how their parents always prayed to
Abraham before making a journey. When I asked why, they always said that legend had it that on his journey from Ur, Abraham was accompanied by Gypsies who protected him. That was why they now prayed to him for protection.

"Although the lochs and rivers of Scotland abounded in fish, the
Highlanders preferred meat and regarded fish as a rather poor substitute for it. It is noteworthy that
PORK WAS ABSOLUTELY DETESTED, and pigs were rarely to be found in the Highlands. They were considered UNCLEAN and anybody raising them was looked upon in the same light. This disgust, of course, reflected the attitude of the
Israelites towards unclean meat, particularly pork, which was FORBIDDEN in the food laws of
Leviticus 11."

"THE first
DNA analysis of the
Travelling community has proven that it is a distinct ethnic minority who separated from the settled community between 1,
000 and 2,000 years ago, experts have claimed.
According to genetics expert
Jim Wilson from the
University of Edinburgh, though it is clear Travellers diverged from the settled community, it is not clear why."
