In My Room

"In My Room" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Gary Usher for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1963 album Surfer Girl. It was also released as the B-side of the "Be True to Your School" single. The single peaked at number 23 in the U.S. (the A-side peaked at number 6, for a two-sided top-40) and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. "In My Room" was ranked number 212 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Writing the song

Gary Usher explained that

Gary Usher (who co-wrote the lyrics with Brian Wilson) further describes that "Brian was always saying that his room was his whole world." Brian seconds this opinion: "I had a room, and I thought of it as my kingdom. And I wrote that song, very definitely, that you're not afraid when you're in your room. It's absolutely true."

Demo version and final release

The 1993 CD box set, Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys, contains an early version of "In My Room" with a number of differences from the eventual official release. It is unclear if this fully developed demo was recorded the same day as the final version on July 16, 1963. The tune features six Beach Boys: both Al Jardine (on vocals) and David Marks (whose strumming guitar backs up Carl Wilson's picked solo notes) are present. This was the last of eight charting songs to include Marks until nearly 50 years later, performing on 2012's That's Why God Made the Radio.

Plot

Sean inadvertently finds a fake ID in Lily's bedroom. Sean and Claudia confront their daughter about her rebellious behavior, but they get few answers. They decide to hack into her e-mail to find out more about Lily's trouble-making friends. While they are checking, an e-mail comes in from a "SweetandNastee." Sean responds, pretending to be Lily. SweetandNastee gives Sean an address to a rave party in Yonkers. Sean and Eddie go to the address which turns out to be a dry cleaners. Convinced the rave is really at the dry cleaners, Sean and Eddie try to gain access to the party but end up getting beaten up by the dry cleaners' owner. Back at home, Sean and Claudia confront Lily, but she slams them for invading her privacy. It is revealed she knew they broke into her e-mail account because she was online at a friend's house when she saw her name logged in. Lily makes up the rave to teach her folks a lesson about snooping.

"Alone in My Room" is a song by Ami Suzuki, released as her second single in September 1998.

Information

"Alone in My Room", like Ami's first single, "Love the Island", was used by the Japanese Government to promote winter tourism on the island of Guam. The song was also used multiple times as the opening theme of ASAYAN, a television show.

The complete single, including all its tracks, were creations of Ami's music mastermind in the Sony days, Tetsuya Komuro. Two of the remixes bear the initials T.K. because of this.

The single was the first one released by Ami in Maxi Single format, including more than three songs on it.

"Alone in My Room" is a song by Skin, which was the first single to be released from Skin's second album, Fake Chemical State. It was released as download only and the first single to be released from Skin since joining V2 Records. The song was co-written with Paul Draper, of Mansun fame, and was his first piece of work since Mansun.
