Painted Skin: The Resurrection is a 2012 Chinese fantasy action film directed by Wu Ershan, starring Zhao Wei, Chen Kun, Zhou Xun, Yang Mi, Feng Shaofeng, Kris Phillips and Chen Tingjia. The film reunites most of the original cast of the 2008 film Painted Skin.
In the 500 years that have passed since the events of the previous film, the fox demon Xiaowei has been imprisoned in ice for violating the demon code. Que'er, a quirky bird demon, rescues Xiaowei, and two leave in search of a man who is willing to give his heart to Xiaowei so that she may become human. They first encounter a boorish prince who scoffs at the suggestion, so they take his heart. Xiaowei uses her magical powers to bait another potential donor, a general who dons a gold mask that covers half of his face. Curious about the general's identity, Xiaowei incapacitates him, but discovers later that her rescuer is not a man, but a woman with half of her face disfigured.
Xiaowei accompanies the mysterious woman to the White City at the border, where the woman is revealed to be Princess Jing, the youngest daughter of the ruling family who is inspecting the military outpost led by General Huo Xin. Huo once served as Jing's lead bodyguard and they developed a deep mutual affection. However, Huo remained faithful to his profession and spurned the princess's confessions to him. Princess Jing's face was disfigured by a monstrous bear while she was out in the forest. Huo showed up too late but still managed to kill the bear and save her.

Painted Skin is a Chinese television series adapted from the 2008 film of the same title, which, in turn, is loosely based on a classic short story in Pu Songling's Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. It was first broadcast on TVS4 on 3 March 2011 in mainland China.
The production team of the 2008 film Painted Skin, including its director and producer Gordon Chan, were involved in the planning and production of this television series. Chan mentioned that the television series would not be a repetition of the film, as the script used for the film would be revised, and more focus would be placed on the relationships between the main characters Xiaowei, Wang Sheng, Peirong, Pang Yong and Xia Bing. Shooting began on 8 September 2010 in Beijing and wrapped up in December.

I walked the streets of this little town
Late last night when it all shut down
Feeling stuck between lost and found and nowhere
Using my memory for a map
I went looking for trains on the torn up tracks
With a weary conductor, he just turned his back but he's still there
Waiting for the resurrection
Fire from the ashes and the tears
The resurrection
You know dreams die hard, dreams die hard around here
Well, it's hard to believe I'm back again
Looking up old lovers and long lost friends
Just to reminisce like the veterans and survivors
I heard Reverend Bill with the kind old face
Say he got alittle stale and he's been replace
Still we all bowed our heads when he said grace at the diner
Waiting for the resurrection
Fire from the ashes and the tears
The resurrection
You know dreams die hard, dreams die hard around here
Well, the engine dies and the main line fails
But surely the heart and the soul prevails
Like the wildflowers grow between the rails in the summer
Oh, the resurrection
Fire from the ashes and the tears
The resurrection
You know dreams die hard
Dreams die hard, dreams die hard around here
Oh, around here
