True journal of many zany experiences during an interesting 2 years in the South Pacific's Samoan Islands as a teacher and temporary member of a Polynesian family from personal diary account. Personal development & reflections of what such a beautiful culture & its interesting people can teach a teacher, despite all intentions in reverse order, located in a truly idyllic setting. In the South Pacific as Mika, the responsible teacher & Uncle Mikey, the colossal screwup at the same time, the main character tries to reconcile his 2 year term there. A true story from the author's diary form 1978-80, warts and all. Majority of all color photos were taken by the author.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this work as much as I had the fortunate experience of living it. It was a much more innocent time and place than the complex, polarized world we have today. Sharing this slice of my life has been quite therapeutic. I hope it's cause for a smile and an uplifting read for you as well.

Attended Hermitage High School in Richmond, Va. Undergrad B.S.in Biology at Hampden-Sydney College, (Va.) & Optometry Degree (O.D.) at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Career as an Optometrist, some 31 years now & passionately loves providing vision care to patients here in North Carolina & many places in the world. This is because the author has been fortunate to be a part of a team of other volunteer eye doctors of VOSH-NC (Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity-NC). Scuba diving & hiking whenever possible along the way after volunteering the eye clinics. Locales have been Haiti, St. Lucia, Trinidad, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, mainland Cuba (NOT Guantanamo, that trip alone could be worthy of another book!), & mostly Belize currently. Travel is the best school of learning, as people anywhere may be different, but we have way much more in common than in contrast. Actions will be always louder than words. Peace Corps has taught those lessons & for that, the author will be ever thankful. Married to Sallie Baughan, the love of my life. 2 dogs, 3 cockatiels. Avid swimmer, jazz fan, & photographer. In a Piscean fashion after this story, the author has lived in Duck, North Carolina (Outer Banks) for 13 years, where in 2006, he was the 'idea guy' (after attending numerous Monterey Jazz Festivals while visiting Foreward Author Paul Karrer), to establish the annual Duck Jazz Festival in Duck. Now owns a place in the quaint river town of Urbanna, Va., (The Blue Tango-on VRBO & AirBnb, check it out-sorry, shameless plug!) near great old friends, has built 2 wooden kayaks over the years, & tries to paddle them whenever & wherever possible, arthritis permitting, of course. Maybe even some gardening....although after events in this story, very cautiously!

Michael (album)
Michael is the first posthumous (and eleventh overall) album of previously unreleased tracks and seventh under Epic Records by American singer Michael Jackson. It was released on December 10, 2010 by Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment.Michael was the first release of all new Michael Jackson material in nine years since Invincible in 2001. Production of the album was handled by several producers such as Michael Jackson, Teddy Riley, Theron "Neff-U" Feemster, C. "Tricky" Stewart, Eddie Cascio, among others and features guest performances by Akon, 50 Cent and Lenny Kravitz. Michael is the seventh Jackson album to be released by Sony and Motown/Universal since Jackson's death in June 2009.
The album produced four singles: "Hold My Hand", released on November 15, 2010, which reached number 39 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, "Hollywood Tonight", released on February 11, 2011, and "Behind the Mask" released on February 21, 2011. The music video for "Hold My Hand" was directed by Mark Pellington, and had its worldwide debut on December 9, 2010. The music video for "Hollywood Tonight" was directed by Wayne Isham, who also directed the video for Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" in 1995 at one of the very same locations where he filmed it—the Pantages Theatre near the famed corner of Hollywood and Vine. The video had its worldwide debut on March 10, 2011. "(I Like) The Way You Love Me" was released in South Korea as a digital single on January 18, 2011, and released to Italian and Chinese radio stations in July 2011.

Michael Row the Boat Ashore
"Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" (or "Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore" or "Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore" or "Michael Row That Gospel Boat") is a negro spiritual. It was first noted during the American Civil War at St. Helena Island, one of the Sea Islands of South Carolina. It is cataloged as Roud Folk Song Index No. 11975.
It was sung by former slaves whose owners had abandoned the island before the Union navy arrived to enforce a blockade. Charles Pickard Ware, an abolitionist and Harvard graduate who had come to supervise the plantations on St. Helena Island from 1862 to 1865, wrote the song down in music notation as he heard the freedmen sing it. Ware's cousin, William Francis Allen, reported in 1863 that while he rode in a boat across Station Creek, the former slaves sang the song as they rowed.
The song was first published in Slave Songs of the United States, by Allen, Ware, and Lucy McKim Garrison, in 1867.

True journal of many zany experiences during an interesting 2 years in the South Pacific's Samoan Islands as a teacher and temporary member of a Polynesian family from personal diary account. Personal development & reflections of what such a beautiful culture & its interesting people can teach a teacher, despite all intentions in reverse order, located in a truly idyllic setting. In the South Pacific as Mika, the responsible teacher & Uncle Mikey, the colossal screwup at the same time, the main character tries to reconcile his 2 year term there. A true story from the author's diary form 1978-80, warts and all. Majority of all color photos were taken by the author.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this work as much as I had the fortunate experience of living it. It was a much more innocent time and place than the complex, polarized world we have today. Sharing this slice of my life has been quite therapeutic. I hope it's cause for a smile and an uplifting read for you as well.

Attended Hermitage High School in Richmond, Va. Undergrad B.S.in Biology at Hampden-Sydney College, (Va.) & Optometry Degree (O.D.) at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Career as an Optometrist, some 31 years now & passionately loves providing vision care to patients here in North Carolina & many places in the world. This is because the author has been fortunate to be a part of a team of other volunteer eye doctors of VOSH-NC (Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity-NC). Scuba diving & hiking whenever possible along the way after volunteering the eye clinics. Locales have been Haiti, St. Lucia, Trinidad, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, mainland Cuba (NOT Guantanamo, that trip alone could be worthy of another book!), & mostly Belize currently. Travel is the best school of learning, as people anywhere may be different, but we have way much more in common than in contrast. Actions will be always louder than words. Peace Corps has taught those lessons & for that, the author will be ever thankful. Married to Sallie Baughan, the love of my life. 2 dogs, 3 cockatiels. Avid swimmer, jazz fan, & photographer. In a Piscean fashion after this story, the author has lived in Duck, North Carolina (Outer Banks) for 13 years, where in 2006, he was the 'idea guy' (after attending numerous Monterey Jazz Festivals while visiting Foreward Author Paul Karrer), to establish the annual Duck Jazz Festival in Duck. Now owns a place in the quaint river town of Urbanna, Va., (The Blue Tango-on VRBO & AirBnb, check it out-sorry, shameless plug!) near great old friends, has built 2 wooden kayaks over the years, & tries to paddle them whenever & wherever possible, arthritis permitting, of course. Maybe even some gardening....although after events in this story, very cautiously!
