A tour of Galway City is a walk down the streets of a settlement that has seen much. Once a major trading post in the Middle Ages, Galway City also endured a nearly year-long siege during the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. Though its fortunes have ebbed and flowed over the years, Galway City is now a vibrant entertainment hub and a beloved destination for visitors from all over the world.

Galway (Irish: Gaillimh, pronounced [ˈɡalʲɪvʲ]) or City of Galway (Cathair na Gaillimhe) is a city on the west coast of Ireland. It is located on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay and is surrounded by County Galway. It is the third largest city within the state (after Dublin and Cork), though if the wider urban area is included then it falls into fourth place behind Limerick. The population of Galway city at the 2011 census was 75,529, rising to 76,778 across the entire urban area.
The city takes its name from the Gaillimh river (River Corrib) that formed the western boundary of the earliest settlement, which was called Dún Bhun na Gaillimhe ("Fort at the mouth of the Gaillimh"). The word Gaillimh means "stony" as in "stony river" (the mythical and alternative derivations are given in History of Galway). Historically, the name was written as Gallive, which is closer to the Irish pronunciation.
The city also bears the nickname "City of the Tribes" Irish: Cathair na dTreabh because "fourteen tribes of" merchant families led the city in its Hiberno-Norman period. The term tribes was often a derogatory phrase in Cromwellian times. The merchants would have seen themselves as Irish gentry and loyal to the King. They subsequently adopted the term as a badge of honour and pride in defiance of the town's Cromwellian occupiers.

Enrique Iglesias (born Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler; May 8, 1975) is a Spanish singer, songwriter and occasional actor, popular in both the Latin market and the Hispanic American market in the United States. He is the son of the famous Spanish singer Julio Iglesias. Within five years of beginning his musical career in the 1990s, he became the biggest seller of Spanish-language albums of that decade. He made his crossover into the mainstream English language market before the turn of the millennium, signing a multi-album deal with Universal Music Group for an unprecedented US$50,000,000 with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums. Iglesias has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time. A tour of Galway City is a walk down the streets of a settlement that has seen much. Once a major trading post in the Middle Ages, Galway City also endured a nearly year-long siege during the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. By posting this video of Storm Desmond in Salthill, Galway I wish to highlight the absolute madness and stupidity of what these youngsters are doing. I do not know if they are strong swimmers or not, that is not the case, if any one of them got into difficulties there was no one there to do anything for them. The voluntary and rescue services are kept busy enough without having to worry about this type of stupid behaviour.
Please God, everyone will have a happy Christmas, perhaps it could have been very different. I would like to make it very clear that I or anyone else do not condone or see any "macho" side to this incident.
In a couple of hours this video clip has received 168,000 views across the globe and everyone is of the same opinion "fools", "eejits", "morons" and worse. Count your blessings and do not, ever, repeat this type of "stunt". Cathal Devlin

A&Z; #252 – Atlas vs The 5x5 Burger Challenge at Scotty's Steakhouse in Galway, Ireland!! (UK Tour 2015 – Day #45 / Challenge #44)
Hey everybody! Day #45 of my 2015 UK & Ireland Tour and for this food challenge I’m at Scotty's Steakhouse in Galway, Ireland. I’ll be taking on their popular 5x5 Burger Challenge which consists of five 1/2 lb burgers plus a lot more. I only had 30 minutes to finish the entire meal!!
Scotty's Steakhouse's 5x5 Burger Challenge (€25):
There are five 1/2 lb burger patties stacked high and layered with cheese and onion rings. There is also a large side of chips and you must choose another 1 lb side item such as coleslaw or baked beans. Challengers have 30 minutes to finish the entire meal, and successful finishers get the meal FREE along with their picture posted on their Wall Of Fame. Only a few people have won out of many attempts!!
NOTE: For anybody wondering why I completely changed up my strategy and had to eat the sides first, it's because I was a little rushed and began the challenge before I really should have. The burger patties were really hot so I had to let them cool down first before eating them.

Kamil Krolak, the Galway based filmmaker behind’ Fifty People, One Question’ and ‘Galway is also Happy’ is back with a new viral video project ‘Galway Bailando’. This time he has collaborated with Tai Chi and tango expert Niall O’ Floinn to celebrate Galway as a city of diverse identities and dance forms.
The ‘Galway Bailando’ 90 minute documentary was also released as part of this collaboration. It is the first documentary of its kind, filmed in various locations across Galway, both indoor and outdoor, and includes over 20 dance artists and schools. It features both world champion dancers and amateur’s with powerful and passionate performances on the city’s streets. Travel with us to the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare located on Ireland’s wild rugged Atlantic coast. The cliffs are the highest cliffs in Europe at 214 meters/700 feet high and were recently voted as the seventh most wonderful heritage site in the world, a global poll conducted by UNESCO.
Departing from Dublin the tour will travel through the counties of Kildare and Limerick before arriving in County Clare. Passing by Bunratty Castle a 15th century medieval Norman fortress and on through Lahinch a world famous surfing and golfing destination. We actually travel through this world famous golf links and along the Atlantic coast.
Arriving at the Cliffs of Moher you benefit from having a premium admittance ticket to the Atlantic Edge an exciting interpretive centre and a new Visitor Experience. Situated in a large domed cave, see photographs, exhibits, displays and experiences that will enchant all who visit. Continue the tour through the dome and experience a virtual reality Cliff face adventure known as THE LEDGE, shown in the audio visual theatre allowing you to experience life at the cliff face both above and below sea level.
Moving outside the visitor centre enjoy a walk along the Cliff face and experience for yourself the exhilarating freedom and the power of nature at work. The fresh air blows in off the ocean and the awe inspiring sheer height of the Cliffs when looking over the edge to the Atlantic are very memorable.
The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres along the western seaboard of County Clare. Visit O'Brien's Tower which stands proudly on a headland off these wonderful Cliffs and see the Aran Islands and Galway Bay (2 hour stop).
From the Cliffs of Moher we continue our traveling day deep into the Burren. An amazing scenic drive along Europe’s edge ... next stop North America! Banff, located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, is one part resort town and one part breathtaking natural retreat.
Life is a little different at over 4,600 feet in elevation—by the way, that makes Banff Canada’s highest town. During your Banff sightseeing, you’ll learn that the town’s residents and visitors are a lively bunch, and you’ll find the local businesses are perfect for this festive crowd. Choose from over 100 restaurants to dine at, or stop by one or two of the dozens of pubs and cafes for an inexpensive snack and drink after walking through the many boutiques. You can also enjoy a marvelous time after the sun goes down; try dancing the night away at the Dancing Sasquatch, or visiting one of Banff’s other nightclubs.

Belfast, located on the northeast coast of Ireland, is an eclectic mixture of history and modernity. Scattered throughout the countryside you’ll find Iron Age forts, medieval castles, and more modern construction dating to the 20th century. Belfast got on the fast track to modernizing in the 19th century, when it became known as a shipbuilding mecca. Among the famous vessels built at Belfast through the decades are the RMS Titanic and its sister ships, Olympic and Britannic.
A great deal of Belfast’s modern identity stems from over three decades of political and religious strife. These issues have influenced much of the city’s public art, as a great number of murals and statues depict people and events from those times. A walk around this easily accessible city is a walk through that troubled past.
You’ll probably be hungry after exploring so much of the city’s history on your Belfast tour, so swing on down to one of the local pubs to drink a pint and share a meal with some of the locals. Just walk down the street and head into what venue catches your eye; the city is easily navigable on foot, and you never know what sort of delightful gallery, park, or restaurant you’re going to find just around the bend.

It was founded by the Vikings within a wonderful valley where the River Liffey flows into the Atlantic Ocean. After the Vikings, the Normans conquered the city and ruled over it for seven hundred years and under King Henry The Eighth Dublin became the capital of what was then a British colony. South west of Dublin is Kildare, the heart of Ireland’s horse racing. In 1902 the Irish national stud, Tully House, was founded there. Rich and eccentric Scottish brewery heir, Colonel William Hall-Walker, had the idea of a creating unique horse breeding scheme that would be based upon astrological calculation. The Wicklow Mountains are a natural paradise of mountains, swamps and lakes, beautiful valleys and a fascinating mountain landscape to the south of Dublin. Jerpoint Abbey near Thomastown dates back to the twelfth century and is one of the most beautiful Cistercian ruins in Ireland. It was founded in around 1160 by Donal Mac Gillapatrick, the King Of Ossory. The Cistercians built the monastery in characteristic style and one of the stone sarcophaguses is said to contain the bones of Holy Nicolas who was buried there by the Crusaders. Although much of it has remained unspoiled, Ireland has undergone much change. It is a land of great natural beauty, healthy commercial success and excellent hospitality: a wild green island set in the wild Atlantic Ocean!
