People in Japan's southern prefecture of Okinawa have taken part in an annual task to clean a peace monument. They're preparing to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the battle there in the final phase of World War Two.
About 250 people gathered for the cleanup at the Peace Memorial Park in Itoman. They included relatives of those who died and local children.
Okinawa was the scene of the war's last large-scale ground battle in the Pacific. Japanese military operations there ended 70 years ago on Tuesday. The fighting between Japanese and US forces on the islands left more than 200,000 people dead.
Under the scorching sun, participants scrubbed the monument that bears the names of the war dead. They also cleaned the surrounding area.
Some were teaching the children about the war as they cleaned.
One man whose grandfather's siblings died during the fighting brought along his 5-year-old daughter. He said he hopes the cleanup will help his daughter learn about the battle of Okinawa. He said he cherishes events that help keep memories alive.

MCLC (Miteri Children Learning Center) has created a very distinctive space for children of the untouchable caste in Nepal, Dalit, to learn and grow. These children come from a marginalized community in Jumla, and due to years of ongoing caste discrimination, they have not been able to access proper education.
Jumla itself is an extremely impoverished region in Nepal. Though these children live only 10 minutes walking distance away from school, they are deprived from proper education.
Action Works Nepal (AWON) created Miteri Children Learning Center (MCLC) as a space where the children could play, learn and eat highly nutritious snacks such as eggs, milk which are hard for their parents to provide at home. The children learn how to read and write at the same level as children of higher castes who have had access to schools at a younger age. They also learn sanitation and hygiene practices that they take back home and teach their parents.
Radha Paudel, the founder and president of Action Works Nepal (AWON), has been described as "one of those people who just makes things happen." She founded AWON on the principle of action over lip service, and assists primarily rural, poor, and marginalized women to live dignified lives in a country still recovering from a 10-year civil war. She has won the Social Worker Award 2013, the Woman Peace Maker Award 2012 and the N-Peace Award 2012. Her simple motto to the complex dynamics of gendered democracy and post-conflict reconstruction is "no women, no peace."- Sigrid Tornquist.

On August 6, 1945, during the final stage of the Second World War, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two bombings, which killed at least 129,000 people, remain the only use of nuclear weapons for warfare in human history.
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is museum located in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, in central Hiroshima, Japan dedicated to documenting the atomic bombing that occurred with the additional aim of world peace. The museum was established in August 1955 with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Hall (now the International Conference Center Hiroshima). It is the most popular of Hiroshima's destinations for school field-trips from all over Japan and for international visitors. 53 million people had visited the museum from its opening in 1955 through 2005. The number of visitors is over one million per year. The architect of the main building was Kenzo Tange. Source: wiwipdia

https://www.expedia.com/Taipei.d180030.Destination-Travel-Guides
Taipei is the glittering capital of Taiwan, and one of the hottest travel destinations in all of Asia. When you visit this thriving city, you’ll find collections of stunning futuristic buildings interspersed with ancient Chinese temples and traditions.
One of these temples, Longshan, is located in Wanhua, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This is where you come to find good fortune, good health, and spiritual advice of all sorts. Once you’ve attained the guidance and wisdom you may not have realized you sought, head to 228 Peace Park, where you will find the memorial to the 1949 uprisings that eventually led to Taiwan’s independence.
Don’t worry about getting around the city; the Taipei Rapid Transit System, or MRT, will take you just about anywhere you need to go. Hop on it to pay a visit to the National Palace Museum, where you’ll find a giant collection of Chinese art and artifacts. There’s over half a million pieces related to ancient Chinese royalty here, and you can spend days exploring them all.
To plan out your next move, make your way to Taipei 101. This is one of the world’s tallest buildings, and you can soar to the top for a breathtaking view of the city and pick out the next place you’ll visit. Do you see Elephant Mountain? It’s not far from the downtown area, and it’s a short climb to the top for another look at Taipei. Keep up with the nature theme and make your stop the Taipei Zoo, where you’ll meet the largest menagerie of animals in Asia.
Cap off a day of Taipei sightseeing and adventure at Shilin Night Market, where you can join the locals in finding that next great meal or landing a spectacular bargain.
What will you do in Taipei?

B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2013, Season 1, Episode 4 of 26. Video re-released 2015 from music issues. Guide, tips, and advice. More info and links below. Corregidor Island is located at the entrance of Manila Bay. During World War II, Corregidor played an important role during the invasion and liberation of the Philippines from Japanese forces. Heavily bombarded during the war, the ruins on the island serve as a military memorial to American, Filipino and Japanese soldiers who served or lost their lives on the island. Corregidor is one of the important historic and tourist sites in the country.
There is a special war veterans tour to cater for special needs and the staff are interested in learning historical accounts from any veterans who served there. There is also a separate tour in Japanese for those that want or need a translator / interpreter.
This Corregidor Island tour was with Sun Cruises, best to book at least 1 day ahead.

Corregidor Island, Part 1:
Filipino Heroes Memorial.
Japanese Garden of Peace, Japanese memorial and grave site.
Malinta Tunnel and history show.
The Grand Hotel, for buffet lunch.
Various old barracks ruins.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
Its important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
Its common for taxi drivers in Manila to try rip you off. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start if you know what it costs to your location. Otherwise find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite about it. Shop around, you can often get a better price.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

0:32 Maokong Gondola - Taipei cable car
On our first few days in Taipei, we tried to take the Maokong Gondola cable car, and unfortunately due to stormy weather, they canceled the service as they don’t run it when there is any sort of bad weather. So on Day 11 of this Taipei travel guide video series, we returned to Taipei Zoo Station and returned to the Maokong Gondola, this time in the morning when it was nice and sunny. Since it was a morning on a weekday, there was little traffic, so we easily got on the cable car, and took the ride to Maokong station, which took a little under 30 minutes to reach the top. The Maokong Gondola is one of the best things to do in Taipei, really great views, cheap, and a nice place to visit.
2:41 Taiwanese stinky tofu
There was a little food court at the top of the Maokong Gondola, and when I smelled the stinky tofu, I knew that’s exactly what I needed to eat. It was deep fried, then covered in a sauce and then some pickled cabbage. It was pretty delicious, and made a nice mid-morning snack. After eating the stinky tofu and walking around for a bit, we took the Maokong Gondola back down as we had some more things to do for the day.
5:50 Jin Feng Restaurant
For lunch we went to Jin Feng Restaurant, a famous place to eat Taiwanese braised pork and rice. I included just a short clip of the food here as I will make a full video about this restaurant coming soon.
7:11 Lin Family Mansion and Garden
Another one of the places I really wanted to visit before leaving Taipei was the Lin Family Mansion and Garden, an ancient and well preserved family home and garden within the city. The entrance fee was free, and they said there were some tours of the mansion in Chinese, but the day we went there were no tours in English so we just walked around on our own. The Lin Family Mansion and Garden was incredible, really old and preserved, felt like a real throwback. I especially liked the Chinese gardens.
9:53 Lin Liu-hsin Puppet Theatre Museum and Dihua Street
Located in the Dihua street area, we went to Lin Liu-hsin Puppet Theatre Museum, a museum with one of the largest collections of Asian puppets. The museum was alright, especially if you enjoy fine arts. After going to the museum we then walked around Dihua street, known for Chinese spices, herbs, and medicine. I bought some Sichuan pepper corns.
11:39 228 Peace Memorial Park
Our final attraction to visit in Taipei was 228 Peace Memorial Park, and it was just a quick stop we made before going back to our hotel area of town.
12:14 Hot pot dinner
We ended the day with another Taiwanese hot pot dinner.

Travel Guide South Africa http://bit.ly/12NxxNm
Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Pretoria in South Africa, which was named after Andries Pretorius, a Boer strategies
who beat the Zulu.
Visit Pretoria in South Africa
Pretoria was named after Andries Pretorius, a Boer strategies who beat the Zulu. The first war between the English and Boer to get independence ended with the defeat of the English. But 18 years later, they had a decisive victory and they ruled all over the South African republic.
It's interesting that the later prime minister, the young Churchan took part as a correspondent in the second Boer war. The sites of Pretoria remind us of the two wars even today. Paul Kruger was the respected President of the country between the two wars. In Church Wit, we can find the simple house where he lived for seven years. The entrance is guarded by two marble lions. The furniture looks as if the President had just stood from his desk.
In one of the rooms, the copy of the room in which he died during his exile in Switzerland has been furnished. Behind the house, a locomotive has been displayed that he traveled around the country in during his seven active years. In the street named after Kruger, we can find the red bricked church and the town hall with the Pretoria statues in its yard.
The brown statue of President Kruger has been placed in the main square called church square. Statues made in Italy stood in a store houses a secret for a long time. It was stood up only after the second Boer war. The square has always been a heart of the town. In the middle of the square, there's a small church around which markets and auctions where held for long time.
In the square, we can find the palace of justice and the building of the old parliament with the clock tower. The peace agreement closing the English Boer war was signed into the Victorian building of Melrose house in May 1902.
Boer Trekker monument is six kilometers from the town center. The imposing work was made in memory of the battle of Blood River where the Boer beat the Zulu at last. Further way above forty kilometers from Pretoria, we can see premiere diamond mine which is famous because the biggest diamond of the world was found here.
It took cutters from Amsterdam two years to make the diamonds called the star of Africa and the smaller star of Africa from the 3,106 karat precious stone which belongs to the British royal crown. The crown can be admired in the treasury of the towel of London. In the main square full of life hawkers offer fast food for example boiled or roasted corn.

Oliver Hazard Perry excited the Americans during the War of 1812 when he went up against and defeated a naval fleet from the most powerful nation in the world. Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial is on South Bass Island in Lake Erie but, stands tall enough that it can be seen from mainland Ohio. A trip to Put-In-Bay should definitely include visiting the granite column. The memorial is impressive and so are the views from the top. Don't forget to check out the Visitor Center. (Video recorded August 2013)
