Come Morning

Come Morning is a feature-length dramatic thriller written and directed by Derrick Sims. The film was produced by Fabled Motion Pictures and shot in October 2011 in Cleveland County, Arkansas. Come Morning premiered October 21, 2012 at the Austin Film Festival. The film won a special jury award for cinematography at the 2013 Oxford Film Festival and the Best of Fest Award at the Charles B. Pierce Film Festival. In November 2013, the film began a limited theatrical release, and it was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on September 23, 2014 by Monarch Home Entertainment and Phase 4 Films.

Plot

Arkansas, November 1973 - Frank (Michael Ray Davis) and his grandson, D (Thor Wahlestedt) go on an afternoon hunt. Just before dusk, the two hunters wander into the darkening woods to track down their kill and, to their horror, find that instead of a deer, they’ve shot their trespassing neighbor, Marion Mitchell (Thomas Moore).

With a history of land disputes with the Mitchells fresh on Frank’s mind, he assures the boy that the only option is to hide the body deep in the woods. As the night draws on, Frank and the boy find themselves only deeper in darkness. Soon the lines between good and evil are no longer clear, and D begins to question if all will really be okay, come morning.

Morning

Morning is the period of time between midnight and noon or, more commonly, the interval between sunrise and noon. Morning precedes afternoon, evening, and night in the sequence of a day. Originally, the term referred to sunrise.

Etymology

The name (which comes from the Middle English word morwening) was formed from the analogy of evening using the word "morn" (in Middle English morwen), and originally meant the coming of the sunrise as evening meant the beginning of the close of the day. The Middle English morwen dropped over time and became morwe, then eventually morrow, which properly means "morning", but was soon used to refer to the following day (i.e., "tomorrow"), as in other Germanic languages—English is unique in restricting the word to the newer usage. The Spanish word "mañana" has two meanings in English: "morning," and "tomorrow," along with the word "morgen" in Dutch and German which also means both "morning," and "tomorrow." Max Weber, (General Economic History, pp23) states that the English word "morning" and the German word "Morgen" both signify the size of land strip "which an ox could plow in a day without giving out". "Tagwerk" in German, and "a day's work" in English mean the same. A Good morning in this sense might mean a good day's plow.

Grover Washington, Jr.

Grover Washington, Jr. (December 12, 1943 – December 17, 1999) was an American jazz-funk / soul-jazz saxophonist. Along with George Benson, John Klemmer, David Sanborn, Bob James, Chuck Mangione, Dave Grusin, Herb Alpert, and Spyro Gyra, he is considered by many to be one of the founders of the smooth jazz genre. He wrote some of his material and later became an arranger and producer.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Washington made some of the genre's most memorable hits, including "Mister Magic," "Reed Seed," "Black Frost," "Winelight," "Inner City Blues" and "The Best is Yet to Come". In addition, he performed very frequently with other artists, including Bill Withers on "Just the Two of Us" (still in regular rotation on radio today), Patti LaBelle on "The Best Is Yet to Come" and Phyllis Hyman on "A Sacred Kind of Love". He is also remembered for his take on the Dave Brubeck classic "Take Five", and for his 1996 version of "Soulful Strut".

Washington had a preference for black nickel-plated saxophones made by Julius Keilwerth. These included a SX90R alto and SX90R tenor. He also played Selmer Mark VI alto in the early years. His main soprano was a black nickel plated H.Couf Superba II (also built by Keilwerth for Herbert Couf) and a Keilwerth SX90 in the last years of his life.

The Nelons

The Nelons are an American southern gospel group based in Atlanta, Georgia. Group members are Kelly Nelon Clark, Her husband Jason Clark, and Kelly's daughters Amber Nelon Thompson and Autumn Nelon Clark. The Nelons are going to be inducted in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

Group history

The Nelons was started by founding member Rex Nelon and started out as The Rex Nelon Singers in 1977. The group was a spin-off of the family group the Lefevres. They became known as the Rex Nelon Singers in 1976 because the Lefevre family members had left the group. The group's first number-one song was "Come Morning" on the Singing News Chart, and was awarded the Southern Gospel Song of the Decade for the 1980s.

Over time the group included Karen Peck, Janet Paschal, Jerry Thompson, Charlotte Ritchie, Kelly Nelon, Todd Nelon, Jeff Stice, Rodney Swain, Stan Whitmire.

The Nelons have been nominated for many awards in the southern gospel music industry including Grammys, Dove Awards,Singing News Awards, Absolutely Gospel Awards, Diamond Awards, and Christian Voice Awards.

Civil war

A civil war is a war between organized groups within the same state or country, or, less commonly, between two countries created from a formerly united state. The aim of one side may be to take control of the country or a region, to achieve independence for a region or to change government policies. The term is a calque of the Latin bellum civile which was used to refer to the various civil wars of the Roman Republic in the 1st century BC.

A civil war is a high-intensity conflict, often involving regular armed forces, that is sustained, organized and large-scale. Civil wars may result in large numbers of casualties and the consumption of significant resources. Most modern civil wars involve intervention by outside powers. According to Patrick M. Regan in his book Civil Wars and Foreign Powers (2000) about two thirds of the 138 intrastate conflicts between the end of World War II and 2000 saw international intervention, with the United States intervening in 35 of these conflicts.
