This week I present to you the full Drive & Sound test of the 2014/2015 Volkswagen Golf 7 GTE with the twin engine concept delivering 204 hp and up to 350 Nm of torque. While the 1.4 TSI with 150 hp is already not really slow, they added the 102 hp electric motor out of the e-Golf to make this a prober GT(E). As you can see, this car really pulls once you put it in "B" (Boost?) and GTE-mode. I don't really know why it is significantly faster than what VW claims but it also feels like more than 200 hp! Especially as I tested the Golf 7 GTD and GTI (220hp) I can tell that this hybrid is very close to the GTI! Besides that you get an "E-Mode" that let's you accelerate pretty decent up to 130 km/h and drive totally quiet in cities....I personally like it! Outwardly there's very little to differentiate the GTE from any other current Golf, except for little blue badges and some headlamp detailing. Even inside, you have to look hard at the dash to spot the small battery gauge nestled in with the tacho. But the car definitely drives like an electric, although without the instant throttle response you get from something like a Nissan Leaf.
In fact the whole experience of driving the GTE can be summed up in the single word - reassuringly familiar. Wait, is that two words?
It purrs along like a true EV in electric mode (with up to 31 theoretical miles of range, more like 25+ in reality) and when you need the extra oomph or miles, the 1.4 liter petrol motor kicks in to get you there, with no fuss or muss. It's very pleasant.
Traditional Golf fans will also be reassured by the lack of compromise on the legendary family practicality of the car. The hatch gives access to a decent sized storage area, the seat room is great, wide opening doors, the whole 9 yards. And of course if you only use it for short journeys and keep it topped up from the mains power socket, you're going to be driving around for almost no cost. Certainly no fuel cost.
Conclusion. A great marriage of modern eco friendly battery power and traditional petrol engined sportiness, means that this new hybrid should please many potential buyers. It may not match the total 'Hot' hatch designation, but it's definitely warm enough for most people, and really that's what counts.

Point of view test drive of the VW Golf GTE Plug-in Hybrid. The Golf GTE has a 1.4-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol engine with a power 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It also has an electric motor with a power of 102 hp and 330 Nm of torque. The combined system output is 204 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The car is equipped with a 6-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox. The Golf GTE goes from 0-100 km/h in 7,6 sec and has a maximum speed of 217 km/h or 222 with boost function. The electric range is 50 km according to VW.
Most of the video was shot in GTE mode for sporty driving. The scene in the forrest was shot in electric mode only.
The test car was also equipped with park assist. You can see a demo of the park assistant in the video. The car does the steering, but the driver operates the gas and brake.

Yesterday Ferrari has unveiled the Ferrari 488 GT3 and the Ferrari 488 GTE race cars during the 2015 Finali Mondiali Ferrari at Mugello Circuit. Today they were officially for the first time on track for a few laps after the presentation together with their (let me call them) foremothers 458 GT3 & GTE. Both cars are nearly identical to each other, both moved by the 3.9-litre twin tubro V8 engine with the GT3 making around 550 bhp and around 500 for the GTE version. Just a few aero differences on the front.
Sound: not as good and loud as the old n/a 458 but maybe in the future they could become noisier.

This week I present to you the full Drive & Sound test of the 2014/2015 Volkswagen Golf 7 GTE with the twin engine concept delivering 204 hp and up to 350 Nm of torque. While the 1.4 TSI with 150 hp is already not really slow, they added the 102 hp electric motor out of the e-Golf to make this a prober GT(E). As you can see, this car really pulls once you put it in "B" (Boost?) and GTE-mode. I don't really know why it is significantly faster than what VW claims but it also feels like more than 200 hp! Especially as I tested the Golf 7 GTD and GTI (220hp) I can tell that this hybrid is very close to the GTI! Besides that you get an "E-Mode" that let's you accelerate pretty decent up to 130 km/h and drive totally quiet in cities....I personally like it! Full review at http://www.redferret.net/?p=50401 . The new 2015 VW Golf GTE is a marriage between electric motor power and a hot hatchback soul, and the result, whilst not massively exciting is definitely fun enough to make eco citizens happy as they save carbon and collect the shopping.
Outwardly there's very little to differentiate the GTE from any other current Golf, except for little blue badges and some headlamp detailing. Even inside, you have to look hard at the dash to spot the small battery gauge nestled in with the tacho. But the car definitely drives like an electric, although without the instant throttle response you get from something like a Nissan Leaf.
In fact the whole experience of driving the GTE can be summed up in the single word - reassuringly familiar. Wait, is that two words?
It purrs along like a true EV in electric mode (with up to 31 theoretical miles of range, more like 25+ in reality) and when you need the extra oomph or miles, the 1.4 liter petrol motor kicks in to get you there, with no fuss or muss. It's very pleasant.
Traditional Golf fans will also be reassured by the lack of compromise on the legendary family practicality of the car. The hatch gives access to a decent sized storage area, the seat room is great, wide opening doors, the whole 9 yards. And of course if you only use it for short journeys and keep it topped up from the mains power socket, you're going to be driving around for almost no cost. Certainly no fuel cost.
Conclusion. A great marriage of modern eco friendly battery power and traditional petrol engined sportiness, means that this new hybrid should please many potential buyers. It may not match the total 'Hot' hatch designation, but it's definitely warm enough for most people, and really that's what counts.
Price: (as tested) £36,995 before government grant.

The electric range is 50 km according to VW.
Most of the video was shot in GTE mode for sporty driving. The scene in the forrest was shot in electric mode only.
The test car was also equipped with park assist. You can see a demo of the park assistant in the video. The car does the steering, but the driver operates the gas and brake.

Sound: not as good and loud as the old n/a 458 but maybe in the future they could become noisier.

価格は車両で約500万円とのこと。補助金約30万円程受けられるそうです。
個人的な意見になってしまいますが、かなり魅力的な車両でした。
刺激的なプラグインハイブリッドを探している方には特にお勧めな車両だと思います。
私も正直欲しいっす！

25% off the cost of a car, up to a maximum of £5,000
20% off the cost of a van up to a maximum of £8,000
The ‘cost’ is the full purchase price you pay for the basic vehicle - including number plates, vehicle excise duty and VAT. It doesn’t include any optional extras, eg delivery charges or first registration fee.
We will complete the paperwork, so there are no application forms for you to fill in, but you may be asked to complete a short questionnaire.
The grant is payable at the point of registration of the car and is subject to a review in May 2015.

These two power sources combine to form a drive unit that offers both sustainability and dynamic performance in tandem with a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) that was specially developed for hybrid models. System power: 150 kW / 204 PS. Essentially, two drive systems are at the heart of the new GTE: one that transforms it into a dynamic GTI/GTD and another that transforms it into a quiet zero-emission car like the e-Golf.

This four-door concept car for the Chinese market – which is over five metres in length – combines exclusivity, perfection and passion. The C Coupé GTE is powered by an innovative plug-in hybrid drive system, whose drive sources combine to produce an impressive 500 Newton metres of system torque.
The progressive C Coupé GTE illustrates a new design approach for future top saloons at Volkswagen. Its contemporary form is impressive from all viewing angles: while its long bonnet conveys a confident appearance, in a side view the four-door C Coupé GTE impresses with its elegant lines, low-profile side windows and horizontal character line that is formed by two lines. From the rear, this structure comes together distinctively, emphasising the vehicle's width.
