Komi Nje
Komi Nje (Ԋ ԋ; italics: Ԋ ԋ) is a letter of the Molodtsov alphabet, a variant of Cyrillic. It was used only in the writing of the Komi language in the 1920s and in the Mordvin language. Its form is similar to the Latin letter Hwair (Ƕ ƕ), but the lowercase form is a small version of the capital letter. Komi Nje represents the palatal nasal /ɲ/, somewhat like the pronunciation of ⟨ni⟩ in "onion". It corresponds to the Cyrillic letter Nje (Њ њ), and to the Latin digraph NJ (NJ Nj nj) used in the Croatian and Serbian languages.

Komi language
The Komi language (Komi: Коми кыв, transliteration: Komi kyv /komi kɨv/) is a Uralic macrolanguage spoken by the Komi peoples in the northeastern European part of Russia. Komi may be considered a single language with several dialects, or a group of closely related languages, making up one of the two branches of the Permic branch of the family. The other Permic language is Udmurt, to which Komi is closely related.
Of the several Komi dialects or languages, two major varieties are recognized, closely related to one another: Komi-Zyrian, the largest group, serves as the literary basis within the Komi Republic; and Komi-Permyak (also called Permyak), spoken in Komi-Permyak Okrug, where it has literary status. A third variety, Komi-Yodzyak is spoken by a small, isolated group of Komi to the north-west of Perm Krai and south of the Komi Republic.
Writing system
The first writing system, the Old Permic script, was invented in the 14th century by the missionary Stepan Khrap, apparently of a Komi mother in Veliky Ustyug. The alphabet shows some similarity to medieval Greek and Cyrillic. In the 16th century this alphabet was replaced by the Russian alphabet with certain modifications for affricates. In the 1920s, the language was written in Molodtsov alphabet, also derived from Cyrillic. In the 1930s it was switched to Latin. Since the 1940s the Komi alphabet was simply changed to the Russian alphabet, albeit with the addition of І, і and Ӧ, ӧ.

Hey! I am Pierre-Christian Brochet. I am French and for 25 years I have been crossing that huge country called Russia. What thrills me the most is the richness and variety of the cultures which are spread across the territory. That’s what I’m going to tell you about in very short films that portray one of the many faces of Russia’s cultures.
There are 140 million of Russian citizens living on the vast territory of Russia. And 110 million of them are actually Russians. Russia differ from region to region. In the north of the Komi Republic near the polar circle in the west of Ural live the Russian old-believers Pomors.
It’s very important for them to preserve their culture and to remember the destiny of their ancestors. Also they preserved a lot from the old Russian culture as well as the regulations and the sacrament of old church.
In the summer they celebrate a wonderful holiday Gorka, where you can see something that has disappeared from the life of Russian in other regions.
We express our special gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Archival Affairs of the Komi Republic and personally to Sergey Emelyanov

In this video I'm talking about the KOMI language, one of my last language challenges. At the beginning of the video I'm talking about general characteristics of this language. Also, I'm explaining WHY I want to learn it and how I'm connected to Komi.
The Komi language is a Uralic language from the Finno-Ugric language group, which also has Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian.
Komi is a minority language spoken in the northeastern European part of Russia.
One of the most fascinating things about KOMI is its writing system.
The first writing system, the Old Permic script, was invented in the 14th century by the missionary Stepan Khrap. The alphabet shows some similarity to medieval Greek and Cyrillic. In the 16th century this alphabet was replaced by the Russian alphabetwith certain modifications for affricates. In the 1920s, the language was written in Molodtsov alphabet, also derived from Cyrillic. In the 1930s it was switched to Latin. Since the 1940s the Komi alphabet was simply changed to the Russian alphabet with the addition of some new letters.

Hey! I am Pierre-Christian Brochet. I am French and for 25 years I have been crossing that huge country called Russia. What thrills me the most is the richness and variety of the cultures which are spread across the territory. That’s what I’m going to tell you about in very short films that portray one of the many faces of Russia’s cultures.
There are 140 million of Russian citizens living on the vast territory of Russia. And 110 million of them are actually Russians. Russia differ from region to region. In the north of the Komi Republic near the polar circle in the west of Ural live the Russian old-believers Pomors.
It’s very important for them to preserve their culture and to remember the destiny of their ancestors. Also they preserved a lot from the old Russian culture as well as the regulations and the sacrament of old church.
In the summer they celebrate a wonderful holiday Gorka, where you can see something that has disappeared from the life of Russian in other regions.
We express our special gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Archival Affairs of the Komi Republic and personally to Sergey Emelyanov
We thank the residents of the Ust-Tsilma district and all participants of the Ust-Tsilma Gorka holiday.

Sophisticated dances movements, finest outfits, as well as songs - these are all the components of the holiday.
Residents of the Ust-Tsilma village could easily open their fashion school, the outfits of local beauties are so rich and varied. And look how they dance!
I will also tell you about how to wear a traditional Russian costume.

Komi Nje
Komi Nje (Ԋ ԋ; italics: Ԋ ԋ) is a letter of the Molodtsov alphabet, a variant of Cyrillic. It was used only in the writing of the Komi language in the 1920s and in the Mordvin language. Its form is similar to the Latin letter Hwair (Ƕ ƕ), but the lowercase form is a small version of the capital letter. Komi Nje represents the palatal nasal /ɲ/, somewhat like the pronunciation of ⟨ni⟩ in "onion". It corresponds to the Cyrillic letter Nje (Њ њ), and to the Latin digraph NJ (NJ Nj nj) used in the Croatian and Serbian languages.

In this video I'm talking about the KOMI language, one of my last language challenges. At the beginning of the video I'm talking about general characteristics of this language. Also, I'm explaining WHY I want to learn it and how I'm connected to Komi.
The Komi language is a Uralic language from the Finno-Ugric language group, which also has Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian.
Komi is a minority language spoken in the northeastern European part of Russia.
One of the most fascinating things about KOMI is its writing system.
The first writing system, the Old Permic script, was invented in the 14th century by the missionary Stepan Khrap. The alphabet shows some similarity to medieval Greek and Cyrillic. In the 16th century this alphabet was replaced by the Russian alphabetwith certain modifications for affricates. In the 1920s, the language was written in Molodtsov alphabet, also derived from Cyrillic. In the 1930s it was switched to Latin. Since the 1940s the Komi alphabet was simply changed to the Russian alphabet with the addition of some new letters.
