The East Rand (known in Afrikaans as the Oos-Rand) is the name of the urban eastern part of the Witwatersrand that is functionally merged with the Johannesburg conurbation. This area became settled by Europeans after a gold-bearing reef discovered in 1886 and sparked the gold rush that gave rise to the establishment of Johannesburg.
The large black townships of the East Rand were the scene of heavy clashes between the African National Congress and the Inkatha Freedom Party before the end of Apartheid.
The region extends from Germiston in the west to Springs in the east, and south down to Nigel, and includes the towns of Boksburg, Benoni, Brakpan, Kempton Park, Edenvale, and Bedfordview.
As part of the restructuring of municipalities in South Africa at the time, the local governments of the East Rand were merged into a single municipality in 1999, called the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, meaning "place of peace."

Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born January 7, 1963) is the junior United States Senator for Kentucky. He is a member of the Republican Party. A member of the Tea Party movement, he describes himself as a "constitutional conservative" and a libertarian. He is the son of Republican Congressman and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas and had never previously held political office. Paul first received national attention in 2008 when making political speeches on behalf of his father. Rand Paul is the first United States Senator in history to serve alongside a parent in the United States House of Representatives.
A graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine, Paul has been a practicing ophthalmologist in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1993, and established his own clinic in December 2007. In 1994, he founded Kentucky Taxpayers United, of which he is still the chairman.
In 2010, Paul ran as the Republican candidate for the United States Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky and defeated Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. As a supporter of the Tea Party movement, Paul has been vocal in advocating for term limits, a balanced budget amendment, and the Read the Bills Act, in addition to the widespread reduction of federal spending and taxation. He has gained prominence for his independent positions on many political issues, often clashing with both Republicans and Democrats.

But, once again, the campaign was dogged by violence. Peacekeeping troops were unable to stop a deadly gun battle between backers of Inkatha and the African National Congress. Correspondent Allen Pizzey reports. They were supposed to be a neutral body for stability, but, today, the National Peacekeeping Force found itself under fire as the enemy. Battle between Zulus and so-called "township self-defense units" from the ANC caught them in a deadly crossfire. Among the nineteen victims were the press. Ken Oosterbroek, award-winning photographer from South Africa's leading newspaper, was killed. Two other photographers, one from Newsweek and another from Reuters, were wounded. Colleagues had to evacuate them under sniper fire. But, they may have been hit by shots from the peacekeeping force. The force has been deployed for only five days and this was their first time in action. Their training has been plagued by reports of drunkenness and insubordination. The army they replaced is scheduled to move back into the township tomorrow. The only bright spot was news that, after high-level talks, the Zulu-based Inkatha party may yet find a way to take part in the elections, which, if it happens, could at least help scale down the violence. I started dancing at the age of 17, in dec 2004. Inspired by acrobats, gymnastics, and ultimately a real amazement of seeing bboys(breakdancers) spinning and moving so smoothly irrelevant to the natural forces of gravity.
The music video called "its like that" by RUN DMC is what truely made me start dancing. Seeing people engage in battle to see who has the best moves and who trained the hardest made me just feel like its a part of who i am.
I started bt recording videos off the tv of anything i could use, then practicing hard and playing it in slow motion to see what each part of the body has to do to get you spinning in that way.
I practice at least 3 hours 6 days a week, plus i teach classes on top of that every day. Now i have friends who dance and we all train each other. I also practice tumbling for extra training.
Dancing is who i am! I will keep doing it until i am not physically able to. Its all about passion.

Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is also home to hundreds of wildlife and plant species. Two Wild & Scenic Rivers, the Tuolumne and Merced rivers, begin in the park and flow west to the Central Valley. Visitors experience the park's 800 miles of hiking trails and 282 miles of road.
Visitors fall in love with the park's many waterfalls, specifically 2,425-foot Yosemite Falls that ranks as the tallest in North America, flowing down into the scenic Valley meadows. Hikers take notice of the enormous granite mountains from the 8,842-foot Half Dome to the 13,114-foot Mt. Lyell-Yosemite's tallest peak. Glaciers, which John Muir sought out in California as well as Alaska, add into the mix with the Maclure and Lyell still intact.

Animals: Yosemite supports more than 400 species of vertebrates, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Wildlife species typically found include mule deer, black bear, bobcat, gray fox, mountain kingsnake, Gilbert's skink, white-headed woodpecker, brown creeper, spotted owl, and a wide variety of bat species. Black bears in Yosemite are active both day and night. Most bears that rely on natural food sources are active during the day. However, those that get food from people are often active at night, when they can quietly sneak around and grab unattended food.
Plants: Move up or down in elevation and feel as though you are in another park. Vegetation changes from oak woodlands to chaparral scrublands to lower montane to upper montane to subalpine to alpine. Those who step into the alpine zone can see krummholz whitebark pines and perhaps a western juniper or mountain hemlock. Scientists study many individual plants, including the black oak, to understand its future challenges.

Yosemite is open all year, though some areas of the park are inaccessible by car from approximately November through May due to snow.

From the West and Most Scenic: CA Hwy 140
This route is by far the most scenic drive into Yosemite National Park and the best way to go if you're visiting for the first time. It's open most of the time and passes through the towns of Mariposa and Fish Camp. It's also a popular route for people driving to Yosemite from the San Jose area.
From the West: CA Hwy 120
Open most any time, this route goes through Oakdale and Groveland and is often used by visitors from the San Francisco Bay area and northern California. It passes through fruit and almond orchards, small agricultural towns, fruit stands and ranches in the rolling foothills before ascending sharply up the Priest Grade to Big Oak Flat and the old gold mining town of Groveland.
From the South: CA Hwy 41
From US Hwy 99 at Fresno, Hwy 41 runs north and west toward Yosemite's South Entrance, which takes you through the towns of Oakhurst and Fish Camp and into the park near the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias and Wawona.
From the East: CA Hwy 120 and Tioga Pass

From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Old West Desert Mountain Town at 3,600 feet (1,104 meters) above sea level (in southern California when as many as 2,000 to 10,000 to 20,000 people camp out in cottages and circle up in RV Round-Ups stretching for thirty miles from Randsburg to Johannesburg along US 395 south to California City, east of Mojave, 2-1/2 hours east of a totally different culture in Los Angeles. Off Roaders, Dirt Bikers and 4 Wheelers, love the basin and range with salt flats and endless twist and turn in the higher elevations of sagebrush hills and desert mountains in the warm southern California chaparral.
On the high end of Main Street in "the Living Ghost Town" of Randsburg only local artists show in the Randsburg Art Gallery. Randsburg resident population is not 70, not 50, but recently down to 48 people in the heart of this mountain side enclave of Bohemians living on the cool north slope.
Great views extend over mountain ranges Rand, El Paso and southern end of the Sierras to the northwest layering fifty miles deep into the Sierras at the far north of the Owens Valley greatly valued by many Wild West Hollywood movie directors including backgrounds for John Wayne films.
From the wide balcony of the Cottage Hotel at the high end of town, the northeast view looks over the tops of three mountain ranges advancing into lost desert basin and range, layering in greys from light to dark hiding mysteries of pioneers and prospectors of the Audacious Generation struggling against the Wild West impelled by burning visions inspired by travel guides and drawings of the 1850s overland journals telling wild stories of the greatest migration of people in the history of the world. Some of them pared off on the dry eastern drainage of the Sierras. People such as Seldom Seen Slim and desert homesteaders like the prior generations of Scrappy, manager of the Cottage Hotel, happy to be in the area all her life.
Antique phosphate sodas are thankfully not as sweet as many soda pops today.
In the Randsburg Art Gallery a hand painted map of southern California high desert depicts the highest elevation in the continental USA - Mount Whitney 14,495 feet above sea level in the Sequoia National Forest in the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains and a moderate distance to the east-southeast the lowest point in the United States - Death Valley at 282 feet BELOW sea level, too hot and too dry in the summer. In between are military reservations of Fort Irwin desert warfare and armored tank training center, China Lake Naval Weapons Center and Edwards Air Force Base. The map is a fresco 10 foot square. Off map to the northeast in southern Nevada is Nellis Bombing and Gunnery Range and off map to the south is experimental military aircraft development center - Skunk Works, famous since the 1950s with the X-1 to Right Stuff coming together in the X-15.

Randsburg centrally located for hiking in the Sierras of southern Tulare County and eastern Kern County, and also other marvels of the Mojave Desert in southern Inyo County.
Randsburg is about 1200 feet (368 meters) above the much hotter desert floor, hence it is good for overnight stays before heading to Death Valley National Monument or other areas in the Mojave Desert. Only three hours from Los Angeles, Randsburg is also due east of the southern tip of the Sierra.

Über Hinterthal und Maria Alm, bekannt ob des hohen und spitzen Kirchturms, erreichen wir Saalfelden.
Saalfelden liegt am Fuß des markanten Steinernen Meeres, am Rand eines weit ausladenden Beckens, das sich bis Kaprun erstreckt und die Skiregionen von Leogang und Zell am See umfasst. Außerdem ist der Ort Ausgangspunkt der mit Leogang verbundenen Skiregion Saalbach – Hinterklemm.
Das Gebiet war bereits in der Bronzezeit besiedelt. Heute ist Saalfelden vor allem eine Schulstadt.
Eine Besonderheit in Saalfelden ist Österreichs einzige Einsiedelei. Nach einem Spaziergang von etwa 20 Minuten ist die eng an den Felsen geduckte Klause zu erreichen.

The Hochköng (High King Mountain) is the highest mountain in the Austrian state of Salzburg. For our trip we take the country roads to the municipality of Dienten at the foot of the Hochköng. The church is a famous postcard motif.
Past the villages of Hinterthal and Maria Alm which is known for it's the high and pointed steeple, we reach Saalfelden.
Saalfelden is located at the foot of the Steinerne Meer on the edge of a far large basin which extends to Kaprun and encompasses the ski areas of Leogang and Zell at the lake. The town of Saalfelden is as well the starting point of the ski area Saalbach-Hinterklemm which is as well connected to Leogang. These ski areas are part of the High King Mountain Ski Area which spans 8 mountains.
The area was already settled in the Bronze Age. Today Saalfelden is primarily a college town.
A particularity of Saalfelden is the hermitage which nestles against the rock. It is the only hermitage of Austria and can be reached by a 20 minute walk.
