A sea is a large body of salt water that is surrounded in whole or in part by land. More broadly, "the sea" is the interconnected system of Earth's salty, oceanic waters—considered as one global ocean or as several principal oceanic divisions. The sea moderates Earth's climate and has important roles in the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle. Although the sea has been travelled and explored since prehistory, the modern scientific study of the sea—oceanography—dates broadly to the British Challenger expedition of the 1870s. The sea is conventionally divided into up to five large oceanic sections—including the IHO's four named oceans (the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic) and the Southern Ocean; smaller, second-order sections, such as the Mediterranean, are known as seas.
Owing to the present state of continental drift, the Northern Hemisphere is now fairly equally divided between land and sea (a ratio of about 2:3) but the South is overwhelmingly oceanic (1:4.7).Salinity in the open ocean is generally in a narrow band around 3.5% by mass, although this can vary in more landlocked waters, near the mouths of large rivers, or at great depths. About 85% of the solids in the open sea are sodium chloride. Deep-sea currents are produced by differences in salinity and temperature. Surface currents are formed by the friction of waves produced by the wind and by tides, the changes in local sea level produced by the gravity of the Moon and Sun. The direction of all of these is governed by surface and submarine land masses and by the rotation of the Earth (the Coriolis effect).
The Sea or the Water is an area of the sky in which many water-related, and few land-related, constellations occur. This may be because the Sun passed through this part of the sky during the rainy season.
Most of these constellations are named by Ptolemy:
Sometimes included are the ship Argo and Crater the Water Cup.
Some water-themed constellations are newer, so are not in this region. They include Hydrus, the lesser water snake; Volans, the flying fish; and Dorado, the swordfish.
The Sea is an album by Norwegian pianist Ketil Bjørnstad recorded in 1994 and released on the ECM label.
The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4½ stars stating "The music is generally mournful, full of space, floating and very much a soundtrack for one's thoughts... Some listeners may enjoy its introspective and peaceful nature of these performances but most will find this a bit of a bore.

This article lists the major and recurring fictional characters created by Joss Whedon for the television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For detailed descriptions, see individual character pages.
The following characters were featured in the opening credits of the program.
The show's titular protagonist, Buffy is "The Slayer", one in a long line of young girls chosen by fate to battle evil forces in the form of vampires and demons. The Slayer has no jurisdiction over human crime. This calling mystically endows her with a limited degree of clairvoyance, usually in the form of prophetic dreams, as well as dramatically increased physical strength, endurance, agility, intuition, and speed and ease of healing. There traditionally has been only one Slayer alive at any given moment, with a new one called upon the event of her death.
Xander is a close friend of Buffy. Possessing no supernatural skills, Xander provides comic relief as well as a grounded, everyman perspective in the supernatural Buffyverse. In another departure from the usual conventions of television, Xander is notable for being an insecure and subordinate male in a world dominated by powerful females.
The master, or sailing master, was a historic term for a naval officer trained in and responsible for the navigation of a sailing vessel. The rank can be equated to a professional seaman and specialist in navigation, rather than as a military commander.
In the British Royal Navy, the master was originally a warrant officer who ranked with, but after, the lieutenants. The rank became a commissioned officer rank and was renamed to navigating lieutenant in 1867; the rank gradually fell out of use from around c1890 since all lieutenants were required to pass the same exams.
When the United States Navy was formed in 1794, master was listed as one of the warrant officer ranks and ranked between midshipmen and lieutenants. The rank was also a commissioned officer rank from 1837 until it was replaced with the current rank of lieutenant, junior grade in 1883.
In the Middle Ages, when 'warships' were typically merchant vessels hired by the crown, the man in charge of the ship and its mariners, as with all ships and indeed most endeavours ashore, was termed the Master; the company of embarked soldiers was commanded by their own Captain.
"Mary" is a song by American rock band, Scissor Sisters, and is the fourth track on their eponymous debut album (see 2004 in music). It was released as a single in October 2004 in the UK, peaking at #14 in the UK Singles Chart.
The "Mary" of the title was Mary Hanlon, a friend of Jake Shears, who died in 2006.
The video for the single was released in October 2004 and was considered a curio by fans. It was seen as a spoof of Rapunzel and other children's fairy tales; an owl makes an appearance in the video. The music video was produced by Don Bluth. Scissor Sisters contacted him after recalling fond memories of an animated sequence in Xanadu. The video also includes a live action portion, showing a woman getting out of bed, boarding a London Underground train, departing at Canary Wharf tube station and entering and working in a Docklands office. This sequence segues into the animation with her staring into a photocopier, presumably indicating the animated sequence is her daydream.

A pirate love song for Anne Bonney & Mary Read (and LGBTQ pirates everywhere)! T’is the curve of your figure, and the glint in your eye T’is the rose in your cheek, and the touch of your thigh! I’m over my head boys, but I’ll wager my life On the Sweet Bonnie Lass who sails with the tide! On the high, high, high, high seas! On the high, high high, high seas! T’is true she’s a pirate, with a right jolly past But she cuts a fine figure, as she stands by the mast! The billows are tossing high! The sky is o’ershadowed with blackness, No shelter or help is nigh; Carest Thou not that we perish? Giving life and taking life
Right hand of mother nature.
Bright as the sun, dark as the night.
You will drown and none can help you.
A loving mother - a merciless killer
The sea shows you the last contrast.
Find your dreams - meet your grave digger.
Watch out! Will you live or rest?
It's your best friend in life
It's your worst enemy
It will judge about your fate.
It's a nice place, indeed,
but one day you will find the answer
why you hate - the sea.
Don't trust the beautiful scene in the moonlight,
never forget all the danger hidden in the sea
It offers food, it's your employer,
millions can't exist without it. We surf on it.
It's so damned good. I'm sure there is no about it.
But it's also an obedient slave of death.
See the dying man on his last quest.
Feel his cold and deadly breath
No chance to get his life back.
The lord of tides is dying now.
Pollution wins the fight
Sick mankind survives somehow
But can we pay the price.
We kill the source of life we need
One way street until the end.
Human beings have to bleed.
This is my revenge.
