In the Thailand province of Trat, community-based tourism company Local Alike introduced us to three villages eager to provide a fun, educational, and unforgettable experience for travelers.
At the Ban Nam Chiao Ecotourism Community, we learned how to make kao griab ya-nah (shrimp and coconut on rice crisps) and tangme krop; planted mangrove roots in along the river; and met a woman who carries on her village's tradition of ngop hat making.
The Chong Changtune Live Eco-Museum introduced us to its signature "Spa de Chong" and taught us how to use palm leaves to make a check dam. We also visited a gem museum and got to do some ruby mining of our own.
Last but not least, the Huai Raeng Ecotourism Group showed us how they use their water and land's ample natural resources for food and goods. We learned more about the uses of nipa palm tree leaves and got to try our hand at making a betel leaf-wrapped rice packet. Then came demonstrations for making mangosteen rind soap in a bamboo mold, traditional Thai dessert called khanom chak, and coconut oil.

ผมรู้จักร้านนี้เพราะพี่ใหญ่ วรนิติ์ กายราศ ผู้อำนวยการสำนักงานตราด แนะนำว่าร้านนี้อร่อยมาก ผมจึงไปลองชิมดูแล้วได้มีโอกาสคุยเรื่องข้อมูลท่องเที่ยวของจังหวัดตราดด้วย ร้านกล้วยน้ำว้าอาหารที่ผมขอแนะนำคือปลาทะเลจุ่ม ซึ่งเขาจะขายเป็นชุดใช้ปลาแต่ละวันไม่เหมือนกันแล้วแต่ว่าแต่ละวันจะมีปลาอะไร ราคาเริ่มต้นชุดละ 300 บาท ให้ปลาเยอะ มีทีเด็ดตรงเผือกที่เอามาต้มให้น้ำมันละลายเผือกจนน้ำหนืดๆ กินซดน้ำ กับปลาจุ่มหรือลวก อร่อยร้ายกาจนัก mr.hotsia ชิมแล้วติดใจอยากไปกินอีก
อีกจานที่แนะนำคือหมูสะเต๊ะที่นี่เขาให้เราย่างเองได้ จะเสริฟพร้อมขนมปัง เอามาปิ้งขอบๆกระทะกรอบอร่อยเหลือเชื่อ หมูสะเต๊ะย่างไม่ต้องนานนะแค่พอสุก หมูจะนุ่มสุดๆ อร่อยหอม กินกับน้ำอาจาดของเขาเข้ากันมาก ส่วนอย่างอื่นที่ควรสั่งคือยำเส้นแก้วนะครับ ลองกินดูเส้นมันกรุบสะใจจริงๆ
ร้านนี้อยู่แถวๆสำนักงานขนส่งจังหวัด คนละที่กะสถานีขนส่งนะครับ คนเมืองตราดรู้จักเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ถามทางมาได้เอง หรือดูพิกัด GPS ที่ผมลงไว้เหนือรูปก็ได้ครับ mr.hotsia มกราคม 2555

Trat (Thai: ตราด) is a province (changwat) of Thailand. It is located in the east of Thailand, and has borders with Chanthaburi Province to the northwest, Cambodia to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south.
Trat is most famous for gemstone mining and trading.
The history of Trat can be traced back to the reign of King Prasat Thong of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Formerly known as Mueang Thung Yai, Trat has played an important role in the development of country’s stability and economy due to its strategic location. The town of Trat has later become a community of Chinese Merchants.
Trat served as a checkpoint and buffer city in 1767 and was responsible for providing provisions to King Taksin the Great before he moved his navy from Chanthaburi to Ayutthaya, where he expelled the Burmese and liberated the Kingdom from Burmese rule.
In Rattanakosin era, during the Paknam crisis in 1893 the French colonist army occupied the western part of Chantaburi. In 1904 in order to get back Chantaburi Siam had to give Trat to French Indochina. Trat became part of Thailand again on March 23, 1906 in exchange for many areas east of the Mekong river like Battambang, Siam Nakhon and Sisophon.

Trat is a town in Thailand, capital of Trat Province and the Mueang Trat district. The town is located in the east of Thailand, at the mouth of the Trat River, near the border with Cambodia.
Trat is at the south-eastern end of Sukhumvit Road, which connects it with Chanthaburi, Rayong, Chonburi and Bangkok.
Trat Airport serves tourists who travel directly from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Ko Chang without passing through the town.
Trat town is the main centre for road travellers to the eastern islands of Thailand including Ko Chang, Ko Mak and Ko Kood. There is regular bus service, taking 4–5 hours, to Bangkok Ekkamai for downtown Bangkok and Bangkok Moh Chit for other destinations in Thailand. Many tourists stop over in Trat before going to the islands from Laem Ngop or Leam Sok (15–20 km from Trat. There are ferry and speedboat services to the eastern islands, Ko Chang and Ko Kood.
Trat is also a transit point for people travelling to Cambodia, as it is a 90 kilometer minibus ride to the border at Hat Lek. After crossing the border there is a short journey to Koh Kong and service to Sihanoukville by road or by sea.

In the Thailand province of Trat, community-based tourism company Local Alike introduced us to three villages eager to provide a fun, educational, and unforgettable experience for travelers.
At the Ban Nam Chiao Ecotourism Community, we learned how to make kao griab ya-nah (shrimp and coconut on rice crisps) and tangme krop; planted mangrove roots in along the river; and met a woman who carries on her village's tradition of ngop hat making.
The Chong Changtune Live Eco-Museum introduced us to its signature "Spa de Chong" and taught us how to use palm leaves to make a check dam. We also visited a gem museum and got to do some ruby mining of our own.
Last but not least, the Huai Raeng Ecotourism Group showed us how they use their water and land's ample natural resources for food and goods. We learned more about the uses of nipa palm tree leaves and got to try our hand at making a betel leaf-wrapped rice packet. Then came demonstrations for making mangosteen rind soap in a bamboo mold, traditional Thai dessert called khanom chak, and coconut oil.

"Voila le voyage a commence doucement avec un depart de Bangkok a 8h du mat, 6 heures de bus et de ferry dans la tete ....
en route, des rencontres etonnantes comme celle d un poete coreen voyageant depuis 2 ans autour du globe... un personnage extremement serein avec lequel j ai discute pdt le trajet...
Egalement la rencontre d une prof americaine vivant a Seoul, elle connaissait koh Chang par coeur donc elle nous a directement conseille une pure guest house avec concerts 70's live tout les soirs, pink floyd, doors, etc etaient au rendez vous...
le Sangsom (whisky thai) coulait a flot avec mes rencontres coreennes. Bref un bar avec vue sur la mer, un temps par trop horrible et des gens bien sympathiques ... le voyage commence ....
sinon le lendemain, j ai loue une petite moto et je suis alle me ballader dans la montagne. c etait vraiment superbe, baignade dans les cascades et petit jus d'orange sur lonely beach... en rentrant a la guest house rencontre d un suisse allemand DJ a koh phan gan .. maintenant je suis blinde pour la Black Moon Party
voila pour resumer mes premieres impressions la thailande c relax voire un peu trop relax .. tout est tellement bien rode depuis 30 ans, les backpackers se sont appropries ce pays, tout est concus pour eux ici ... ca n est pas desagreable mais ca casse un peu le charme parfois... je suis peut etre un peu dur mais j ai quand meme hate d etre en Birmanie avec Alex... decollage dans 2 jours ..."

Journey from Trat to Koh Kong via Hat Lek border crossing
As an alternative to using the Poipet border crossing to enter Cambodia from Thailand, why not use the southern most border crossing by the coast at Hak Lek. The major advantage going this route is that its close to the seaside resort of Sihanoukville. This was a 5 night trip on the amazing island, Koh Kood, it still remains our favourite out of all the Thai islands. The perfect time to visit is the middle of November, which is when the video was filmed. It's a great time as there are not many tourists on the island, and the waterfalls are still full as the rainy season has not long ended. Also the sea is crystal clear, and calm making it perfect for Kayaking. We did a lot of Kayaking, it was a great way to discover hidden beaches, and the sunsets whilst floating on the water were unbelievable.
Koh Kood is quite a large Island, its actually Thailand's fourth largest. If you are wondering how long to spend there, our recommendation would be at least 3 nights, but longer if you want to fully appreciate the island. You could quite easy spend a week or more and not get bored, It's absolute paradise, you will never want to leave.

It really is just drop dead gorgeous. And we strongly recommend you add it to your itinerary the next time you holiday in Thailand.
Set to the south of better known Ko Chang and Ko Maak, Ko Kut is a large, mountainous island whose interior remains largely jungle covered and whose western and southern coasts are dotted with glorious white-sand beaches. The waters surrounding the island are crystal clear and some beaches have an other-worldly Maldivian appearance. It's beautiful.
There is a good all-weather sealed road that runs much of the island's length from Ao Salad in the north to Ao Yai in the south and almost all of the accommodation can be reached by road (albeit sometimes a very rocky, rutted, hilly trail).

Alex & Andrew were crossing the border from Aranya Prathpet, Thailand into Cambodia when they were informed of two elaborate scams that tourists/travellers often encounter in the town. After a gruelling 8 hours on the train from HuaLong Phon Station, Bangkok to the very border of Thailand, the scam starts the moment you get off the train and takes place in buildings close to the border crossing.

Probably the most well-known thing to do in Tokyo is visit the Tsukiji Fish Market. Before I went to the wholesale area of the market, I ate a sashimi rice bowl at one of the famous restaurants. My belly was very satisfied and I then walked around the wholesale fish market for a couple of hours before heading to the outer edge of the market - which by the way has a lot of awesome restaurants and Japanese street food things to eat around there too.
I thoroughly enjoyed walking around outside market, but then we spotted something that looked truly remarkable, and we had to make an impulse purchase. It wasn't cheap at all, but it sure was amazing. I could hear the blowtorches from a ways away, and that's what first caught my attention. The vendor first took a giant scallop, cut it up with a pair of scissors, and then added a medley of different seafoods to the shell. There was an oyster, sea urchin, and the scallop of course, and then there was a white looking thing that I had never seen before. I really had no clue what it was, but I was about to find out.
So I waited in line for a few minutes, and then paid, and got my beautiful fresh seafood Japanese street food treat. Though it was cooked for just a few seconds with that blowtorch, it was completely hot, and just smelled of complete freshness. Being a seafood lover, I couldn't wait to start digging in. There wasn't any seating, but there were a few styrofoam boxes where you could actually set your shell down and start diggin in.
I started with the scallop first, which was amazing, incredibly soft and sweet and fleshy. The oyster was equally marvelous, meaty and big and juicy. The uni sea urchin was also quite good, tasted a little bit like a ripe cheese, with a slight burn on the top to give it some nice flavor. Since I didn't know what the white stuff was on my show, I decided to try that as the last thing. It was definitely a little bit on the slimy side, and it actually kind of tasted like cream cheese but even creamier. It actually didn't have a lot of flavor other than cream cheese.
I proceeded to finish my entire Japanese street food seafood shell, and it was sensationally delicious. It was definitely only for you if you love seafood, and if you like seafood you'll for sure love this. Everything was extremely fresh and straight from the market itself. And again just like all Japanese food, this seafood wasn't overcooked at all, but just lightly cooked and it remained nice and juicy and flavorful.
When I returned to my hotel that evening, we did some quick research, and discovered that the mysterious white thing on my shell was known as shirako, which translates to cod sperm. Apparently during the winter season in Japan, shirako is quite the delicacy. I've got to admit, it wasn't my favorite thing on my shell, but it wasn't bad, and I would definitely eat it again.
If you visit the Tsukiji fish market and need an awesome little treat, you'll find the number of vendors selling these scallop treats.
At 800 JPY ($7.81), this wasn't the cheapest street food snack, but it sure was worth it.

As an alternative to using the Poipet border crossing to enter Cambodia from Thailand, why not use the southern most border crossing by the coast at Hak Lek. The major advantage going this route is that its close to the seaside resort of Sihanoukville. Remember to share a taxi with fellow travelers on the Cambodia side of the border otherwise the taxi mafia will rip you off. Best of luck.

A strong earthquake has struck Myanmar, the US Geological Survey reports, with shaking felt across the region, BBC News reports.The 6.9 magnitude quake took place at a depth of around 140 kilometers (87 miles), northwest of Mandalay.
