If you are a Stage IV cancer survivor?…I’d love to meet and work with you. If you spend more hours in front of a computer than you’d like to admit and your neck and back are telling you about it?…we could be a good match.
My path to massage was far from direct. I was working as a bartender in downtown Washington, DC making most creative use of my degree in English Literature when somehow I found myself at an information session for people who were considering going to massage school. I didn’t feel like I was considering going to massage school, but there I was. I had never had a massage before in my life. The first massage I ever received was the one I was required to get in order to complete my application for massage school. There was nothing in my life that would have obviously connected me to a career in massage therapy, but after the first day of massage school I knew I was in the right place.
It was crystal clear that I had taken the first step in the direction of what has become an ever more meaningful and joyful life.
Just 9 months into my massage training I had the unique and humbling opportunity to be with my grandfather at the moment of his death. I was employing my nascent massage skills working with him in his hospital bed when I watched and felt him take what would be his last breath. I had always been viscerally afraid of death and dying, but this felt like the most natural and appropriate place to be, holding his hand, showing my love through massage.
As my training and career have progressed I have gobbled up every opportunity I could to train and work with leaders in the fields of oncology and end of life work. People like Charlotte Versagi, Gayle MacDonald, Tracy Walton, Martha Menard, Isabel Adkins, Frank Ostaseski and others have been and continue to be great supports and mentors.
Lighthold is an active private practice. In addition to working with clients in my office, I offer education in end of life care and oncology massage nationwide and I work tirelessly to advance the presence of massage therapy in healthcare settings, particularly in service of the oncology community.
A wide variety of clients in a wide variety of settings suits me perfectly.
I look forward to hearing from you and creating an opportunity for us to do good work together.

GENEVA — The Baha'i International Community has described as "desperately cruel" the fact that one of Iran's seven Baha'i leaders has been unable to attend the funeral of his own wife.
81 year old Mrs. Ashraf Khanjani -- who was married to Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani for more than 50 years -- died yesterday morning at the family home in Tehran. She had been unwell for many months.
Mr. Khanjani, 77, is serving a ten-year jail term at Iran's notorious Gohardasht prison, along with six other Baha'is who were all members of a national-level ad hoc group that attended to the needs of Iran's Baha'i community.
"This is a desperately cruel turn of events," said Diane Ala'i, representative of the Baha'i International Community to the United Nations in Geneva.
"For an innocent man to be denied the opportunity to be with his devoted wife as she passed away, and then to be unable to attend her funeral -- this shows the depth of inhumanity to which the Iranian authorities have sunk," said Ms. Ala'i.
"Islamic compassion and justice are nowhere to be seen," she said.

GENEVA — The Baha'i International Community has described as "desperately cruel" the fact that one of Iran's seven Baha'i leaders has been unable to attend the funeral of his own wife.
81 year old Mrs. Ashraf Khanjani -- who was married to Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani for more than 50 years -- died yesterday morning at the family home in Tehran. She had been unwell for many months.
Mr. Khanjani, 77, is serving a ten-year jail term at Iran's notorious Gohardasht prison, along with six other Baha'is who were all members of a national-level ad hoc group that attended to the needs of Iran's Baha'i community.
"This is a desperately cruel turn of events," said Diane Ala'i, representative of the Baha'i International Community to the United Nations in Geneva.

A doctor committed suicide at Kallahalli in Mandya on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Tejaswini, wife of Dr Raghavendra, serving at Mandya Government Hospital.
Tejaswini, daughter of Devarj and Ammaiah, residents of Banshankri Layout in Bangalore, was married to Raghavendra four years ago and had a one-and-half-year-old child.
It is learnt that the couple would quarrel frequently. Tejaswi's parents said that they had given crores of rupees in dowry at the time of marriage, but Raghavendra and his family were not satisfied and were harassing Tejaswini.
"Unable to bear the harassment, Tejaswini had gone to her parents place and stayed for a few months. But, after convincing her we sent her back to her husband's house," said her parents and alleged that her death was due to dowry harrasment.
According to sources, the couple had quarreled even on Saturday night.
Raghavendra stated that on Sunday morning, he saw Tejaswini hanging. Raghavendra and his family are absconding.
Angered over Tejaswini's death, her relatives ransacked Raghavendra's house. They attacked his colleagues in the hospital and set ablaze his office in the premises of VRL at Kalhalli. SP Bhushanji Borase said postmortem would be conducted.
