Lagos is a city worth deliberating on. From a 19th century British colony and then Nigeria’s former capital, today Lagos is the biggest node on a continuous urban corridor that stretches from Abidjan to Ibadan. Given its history, growing population and position as a regional catalyst, its possible futures raises questions on urbanization and its effects on society for the African continent as a whole.
The science fiction collection Lagos 2060 captures some of those concerns. Published in 2013, it speculates about what it will be like to live in Lagos 100 years after Nigeria gained independence from the UK. But Lagos 2060 is only one example in a growing trend where the creative industries engage common fears and hopes about the future and articulate these through fiction (literature, movies, animation). Far more than aesthetic indulgence, these renditions are a calibration of the changes deemed necessary in today’s political, technical and cultural infrastructure.
These thoughts frame the iMagineering Lagos team's presentation at FutureFest 2015 (14th - 15th March) in London, organized by Nesta and supported by British Council.

Meet Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Architect of Modern Lagos......
Lagos the center of excellence was created in 1967, from the colony province and the Lagos federal territory as an island Lagos state is situated in a very vantage position being a major access point to the Atlantic Ocean.
This gives it a very strong commercial value, because of the sea ports and its strategic importance to the military. The government of Lagos as the manager of these verse resources and so its rapid development is crucial to its very diverse people, Lagosians are very aware and highly sophisticated people, probably regarded as the most elitist of Nigerians making them expect a very serious degree of responsibility from government.
His since becoming governor of Lagos state, almost two decades ago, has changed the face of politics in Nigeria to date.
Bedeviled with corruption, successive government has been poorly managed, disappointing the people, perhaps some exception in the past was governor latifee Jakande and cornel Buba Marwa who were liked and respected by the people. Today there is a new face in Lagos. ..........

Abeokuta is the largest city and state capital of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. It is situated on the east bank of the Ogun River, near a group of rocky outcrops in a wooded savanna;77 kilometres (48 mi) north of Lagos by railway, or 130 kilometres (81 mi) by water.
History
Sodeke first settled Abeokuta (meaning literally "the underneath of the rock"[citation needed] or indirectly "refuge among rocks")in 1825 as a place of refuge from slavehunters from Dahomey and Ibadan. The village populations scattered over the open country to take refuge among the rocks surrounding the city. Here they formed a free confederacy of many distinct groups, each preserving the traditional customs, religious rites and the names of their original villages.
The original settlers of Abeokuta were of the Egba nation,[ fleeing from the Oyo Empire, which was collapsing.Later, some members of other Yoruba clans came to the settlement. Baptist and Anglican missionaries from Great Britain began to serve the area in the 1840s, in addition to Sierra Leone Creoles.
Because Abeokuta was in a key location for the palm oil trade and because it was the so-called capital of the Egbas, Dahomey soon became hostile. In the 1851 Battle of Abeokuta, the Egba, with assistance from missionaries and armed by the British, defeated King Gezo and the Dahomey incursion. They again beat back the Dahomey military in 1864.
The 1860s also saw problems arise with the Europeans, namely the British in Lagos, which led to the Egba first closing trade routes, followed by the expulsion of missionaries and traders in 1867.Between 1877 and 1893 the Yoruba Civil Wars occurred, and Abeokuta opposed Ibadan, which led the king or alake of the Egba to sign an alliance with the British governor, Sir Gilbert Carter. This occurred in 1893, which formalized the Egba United Government based in Abẹokuta which became recognized by the United Kingdom. In 1914, the city was made part of the colony of Nigeria by the British.
In 1918, the Abeokuta Riots took place which was related to the levying of taxes and the policy of indirect rule by Lord Frederick Lugard, the British Governor-General.
Kuto Road in Abeokuta.
The Abeokuta Women's Revolt, led by the Abeokuta Women’s Union (AWU), took place in the 1940s. It was a resistance movement against the imposition of unfair taxation by the Nigerian colonial government.
In 1976, Abeokuta became the capital of the newly created Ogun State.
Important buildings
Abeokuta was a walled town and remnants of the historic wall still exist today. The Ake, the traditional residence of the Alake, along with Centenary Hall (1930). There are secondary and primary schools and the University of Lagos Abeokuta Campus opened in 1984. This campus specializes in science, agriculture, and technology. This has since been changed to an independent full-fledged tertiary institution, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) in 1988.

We travel along the colony’s iron foundations, the railway lines laid by the British imperialists as they raced to create a passage to Lake Victoria from Mombasa. 120 years later, the same railway is enjoyed by tourists seeking a taste of the vintage African safari, with luxury 1st-class carriages and pressed napkins. Nestled between South Africa and Tanzania, on the south-eastern coast of Africa lies the tropical paradise of Mozambique. The 2500-km long coastline with white palm lined beaches, pristine crystal clear waters, lagoons and spectacular corral reefs, is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the African continent.
This magnificent coastline with its secluded unspoiled beaches is scattered with stunning resorts that blend in with the natural beauty of the region.
With its all year round summer climate and safe beaches this paradise offers unforgettable family holidays and for the adventurous many activities, especially fishing, diving, snorkeling and sailing as well as peace and tranquility for those who just want to laze around on white tropical beaches and enjoy life.
Magnificent sunrises, calm lukewarm waters of the Indian Ocean, excellent cuisine and friendly people await those who want to discover this tropical paradise called Mozambique.
A video by Adventure Films called “Discover Mozambique” must be the most comprehensive audio-visual tourist guide available covering the coastline from Ponta do Ouro in the south all the way up to Inhasoro just south of Beira.
The viewer will experience, with superb video and audio quality, the beauty of the resorts on this part of the coastline. Places like Ponta du Ouro and Malongane, Mamoli, Marracuene, Macaneta, Bilene, Xai-Xai, Chongoene, Chizavane, Chidenguele, Zavora, Paindane, Guinjata, Jangamo, Coconut Bay, Inhambane, Barra, Maxixe, Morrungulo, Pomene, Vilanculos and Inhasoro.
This video is a must for all who plan to travel to Mozambique. Not only for a family holiday but also for scuba divers, snorkelers, fishermen either deep sea or surf, sailors as well as 4X4 enthusiasts.
Mozambique is one of the worlds best kept diving, spearfishing and big game fishing secrets. With a coastline of over 2500 km, one only has to look at her neighboring exotic dive destinations such as Mauritius, Comoros and the Maldives to understand what lies beneath the warm Indian Ocean – the most pristine and virgin reefs in the world with names like Bass City, Texas, Manta, Lighthouse, Jangamo, Playstation, Zambia Shoal, Sylvia Shoal and many more.
A huge diversity of game fish abounds in the Mozambican waters including Sailfish and Marlin. This coastline is also famous for huge King-fish catches.
“Discover Mozambique” is the ultimate guide for planning your trip to this tropical paradise. It covers all the resorts on this part of the coastline by showing all the lodges, hotels and campsites where you can enjoy an unforgettable holiday experience. It offers handy information on road conditions, beaches, dive camps and other activities and tourist attractions.

Chiloé Island (Isla de Chiloé), also known as Greater Island of Chiloé (Isla Grande de Chiloé), is the largest island of the Chiloé Archipelago off the coast of Chile, in the Pacific Ocean. The island is located in southern Chile, in the Los Lagos Region.
Chiloe is famous for myths and legends with roots in its native population but with some European influence. Even though the island was Christianized by Spanish conquerors (you can visit many of the Jesuit wooden churches all over the island) its inhabitants are also very superstitious. A singing, fair-haired beauty similar to the German Lorelei is called la pincoya. It is said that if she dances towards the coast the sea will bring a lot of fish. A ghost ship carrying the souls of wrecked sailors, similar to the Flying Dutchman, is called caleuche. And if someone tells you he or she was seduced in the forest, it might have been the fiura or the trauco, which is often blamed for venereal disease or an awkward pregnancy. A very pitiful figure is the invunche; as a baby his orifices, including his eyes, were closed and one leg was sewn to his back, so that he walks on three legs.
See
=============
There are quite a few local sites to be seen throughout Chiloe Island. Since it was separated by water from the mainland, many of the local traditions have been preserved here, instead of merging with the Spanish culture after the conquest.
The Bay of Caulin offers the chance to see locals actively rounding up seaweed in their daily tasks, being collected by hand and with ox-carts. The Bay of Ancud also offers great views and chances for kayaking. An old Spanish battery can also be visited on the North side of the bay. The Puñihuil Penguin colony is located on the north side of the island along the Pacific coast. Chiloe's National Park and Ahuenca region are habitat for diverse and abundant wildlife.

============
Few tour companies offer guided tours on Chiloe Island, as most Lakes District tourism activity takes place in the areas around Osorno Volcano, Lake Llanquihue, and Pumalin Park further northeast from the island.

This is a journey into Kenya’s origins and its uncertain future. To either side of their trammelled way lie the gleaming metropolis of Nairobi, the rolling ranchers’ pastures and the sprawling slums of Kibera.
Shot on SD and 8mm film, this film takes the viewer on an experiential journey through different periods of history and levels of society: we are welcomed by a demented Mau Mau veteran, carefully set on our way by a railway tourist guide, and bade farewell in true Mombasa style by a melancholic Swahili guitarist.
David Cecil’s graduation film (Visual Anthropology, Goldsmiths’, 2009) was fraught with difficulty from the start. His original camera was stolen in Kilifi on the first night of the 2-week shoot, forcing him to shoot on 8mm and then film the rest in 5 days on a locally-sourced replacement. The result is haphazard but was well-received by audiences at Amakula Film Festival (Uganda) and received a nomination for Best Short Documentary in the 2010 Deborshir Festival (Russia).
Note the cameo (@06:10) by celebrated British film-maker Nick Broomfield who we bump into in Nairobi station during the shoot, and also the impressive rooftop graffiti in Kibera (@10:00). For those patient enough to sit through the credits, there is a final word from the film’s most colourful character.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Megacities - New York Full Documentary
Megacities uncovers the rapid growth, new forms of spatial density of population, formal and informal economics as well as poverty, crime, and high levels of social fragmentation.
Megacities takes a revolutionary look at the places where most of us live: the modern Metropolis. Megacities focuses on the single aspect of a city's infrastructure which best informs the life and functions of that place. Each city is examined as an organism: living, breathing, and growing. In order to survive, these infrastructures must each function independently, and yet blend into a harmony of man, machine, strategy and system, which defines it as a mega city. Megacities examines the infrastructure of eight iconic locations around the world: Las Vegas, Mexico City, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Sao Paulo, Mumbai and New York. Through dramatic storytelling, unparalleled access and sophisticated computer graphics blended seamlessly with live action, Megacities takes viewers beyond the monuments - and into the machinery - that is the true, living marvel of each mega city.
New York is a state in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. New York is the 27th-most extensive, the fourth-most populous, and the seventh-most densely populated of the 50 United States. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Rhode Island east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York is often referred to as New York State or the State of New York to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With a Census-estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States. The city is the nucleus of the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States—the New York City Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is also known for being the location of Ellis Island, the largest historical gateway for immigration in the history of the United States. A global power city, New York City exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City alone makes up over 40 percent of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
The earliest Europeans in New York were French colonists and Jesuit missionaries who arrived southward from settlements at Montreal for trade and proselytizing. New York had been inhabited by various tribes of Algonquian and Iroquoian-speaking Native Americans for several hundred years by the time Dutch settlers moved into the region in the early 17th century. In 1609, the region was first claimed by Henry Hudson for the Dutch, who built Fort Nassau in 1614 at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk rivers, where the present-day capital of Albany later developed. The Dutch soon also settled New Amsterdam and parts of the Hudson Valley, establishing the colony of New Netherland based on trade and profitmaking, a multicultural community from its earliest days and a center of trade and immigration. The British annexed the colony from the Dutch in 1664. The borders of the British colony, the Province of New York, were quite similar to those of the present-day state.
Many landmarks in New York are well known to both international and domestic visitors, with New York State hosting four of the world's ten most-visited tourist attractions in 2013: Times Square, Central Park, Niagara Falls (shared with Ontario), and Grand Central Terminal. New York is home to the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of the United States and its ideals of freedom, democracy, and opportunity.
