I feel like these braids are everywhere right now! I love it :) I have seen a bunch of requests ever since I posted a pic a few weeks ago. It's so funny because I used to be one of those people who didn't understand how someone could braid their own hair. After trying a bunch of times.. it finally came to me!! I hope this tutorial helps anyone trying to learn. If you learn LET ME KNOW!! I love when you guys give me feedback. Love you guys so much! XOXO Carli *This is all my hair. I I french braid my hair after every shower. If I am lazy - a regular braid will do. I love doing this because it allows it to air dry in soft waves. It also creates less frizz then if I were to air dry. Thanks to my keratin of course. As much as I love the Keratin treatments i've gotten the past few years, I feel like it may be one of the reasons for my eczema. I have been on a crazy mission to figure out how and when it all started. I'm not saying definitely but it could be one of the factors. My skin is so sensitive so I am looking into it further. Bohemian Braid Hair Tutorial | Half Up (WITH VOLUME!)

When the clock changes and the weather starts to feel breezy it can only mean one thing - spring is almost here! Just in time, I created this bohemian braided hair style that took me less than 5 minutes (I even added extra volume up top!) Truth be told - I'm excited my hair is starting to sit at a comfortable length since chopping it all off last year (remember that!?). I was getting a little lazy with my hairstyles but I'm suddenly feeling inspired to spice up the new season with fun new hairstyles! The truth is, my braid game is limited. I can sit on Pinterest all day and day dream about doing those crazy cool braided hair looks but in reality it's not going to happen! Please don't be too hard on me while watching this video - LOL! I know my braids aren't "perfect". What I can do is the simple braid and remix it with a little twist (literally). A braid (also called plait) is a complex structure or pattern formed by intertwining three or more strands of flexible material such as textile fibres, wire, or human hair. Compared to the process of weaving a wide sheet of cloth from two separate, perpendicular groups of strands (warp and weft), a braid is usually long and narrow, with each component strand functionally equivalent in zigzagging forward through the overlapping mass of the others.

The simplest possible braid is a flat, solid, three-strand structure in some countries/cases called a plait. More complex braids can be constructed from an arbitrary (but usually odd) number of strands to create a wider range of structures: wider ribbon-like bands, hollow or solid cylindrical cords, or broad mats which resemble a rudimentary perpendicular weave.

Braids are commonly used to make rope, decorative objects, and hairstyles (also see pigtails, French braid). Complex braids have been used to create hanging fibre artworks.

Braiding is also used to prepare horses' manes and tails for showing, polo and polocrosse.

When the clock changes and the weather starts to feel breezy it can only mean one thing - spring is almost here! Just in time, I created this bohemian braided hair style that took me less than 5 minutes (I even added extra volume up top!) Truth be told - I'm excited my hair is starting to sit at a comfortable length since chopping it all off last year (remember that!?). I was getting a little lazy with my hairstyles but I'm suddenly feeling inspired to spice up the new season with fun new hairstyles! The truth is, my braid game is limited. I can sit on Pinterest all day and day dream about doing those crazy cool braided hair looks but in reality it's not going to happen! Please don't be too hard on me while watching this video - LOL! I know my braids aren't "perfect". What I can do is the simple braid and remix it with a little twist (literally). When the clock changes and the weather starts to feel breezy it can only mean one thing - spring is almost here! When the clock changes and the weather starts to feel breezy it can only mean one thing - spring is almost here! Just in time, I created this bohemian braided hair style that took me less than 5 minutes (I even added extra volume up top!) Truth be told - I'm excited my hair is starting to sit at a comfortable length since chopping it all off last year (remember that!?). I was getting a little lazy with my hairstyles but I'm suddenly feeling inspired to spice up the new season with fun new hairstyles! The truth is, my braid game is limited. I can sit on Pinterest all day and day dream about doing those crazy cool braided hair looks but in reality it's not going to happen! Please don't be too hard on me while watching this video - LOL! I know my braids aren't "perfect". What I can do is the simple braid and remix it with a little twist (literally). I hope you enjoy this half-up slash half-down hairstyle that's messy and voluminous at the same time. Enjoy! P.S Did you change your clocks back? How are you adjusting so far? Instead of a standard French braid, which normally starts near the hairline, we're going to start the fishtail french braid a little further back. We'll start by taking a small section right here in the back, and splitting it into two large sections. We're going to take a small piece from the outside and cross it over the center. Then take another small piece from the other side and crossing it towards the center, creating an X in the middle. Now we'll take a small piece from the outside and start picking up hair and adding it to those pieces, crossing it over the center. Pick up a small piece from the outside and a larger piece and crossing it over the center. We're going to continue to take hair in a circular section, adding it to the braid. You always want to make sure that you have an X here in the center, otherwise we lose the whole style. Another tip with fishtail braids is to make sure that each of the outside sections that you're taking is nice and small so that the style is nice and tight and you get that zipper effect. Clean sections is key with the fishtail braid, because the second you lose your clean sections, you lose the whole braid. Now at the base of the hairline you have no more hair to pick up, so continue taking small sections from the outside of the two sections. I've found that by picking up the sections with your pointer fingers you keep the sections nice and clean. Now this braid is great, because you can turn it into an updo, you can turn it into a side braid. It's just a really nice look to have in your repertoire. To keep the look fresh I like to stop the braid a couple of inches, two or three, maybe four, we're stopping on Kelly maybe four inches away from the bottom, just to make it look a little less stuffy and have a little more fun with it. Now you're going to finish off with a clear elastic. Now you can leave the band exposed, but I normally like to cover the band, so I'll take a small section from the back and wrap it around the elastic. Then just finish tying off that elastic, pulling it up and just kind of moving the hair down, so that it completely covers. Great! There you have a French braid fishtail.

The basic idea and inspiration for this braid came from a combination of several techniques which we have shown in past videos: A "feather braid" a "scallop braid" and of course, a "fishtail braid." Unlike the scallop braid (which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNVCAm3lHKA) we chose to remove just one strand at a time from the fishtail, while keeping these strands close to the original braid as they are added back in. French braiding instructions step by step, and how to hold the strands! Awhile ago, we put out a "how to do a french braid" for beginners video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1GjaNAiqaA (which basically showed the mechanics of how a french braid is made.) I'm hoping today's tutorial will help to show how to hold the strands while you are french braiding hair. Keep in mind that there really is no "right or wrong" way to hold the strands in your hands. Whatever works for you to get the job done is just fine. I actually have learned 2 different ways of holding the strands with your fingers that I like to use while french braiding and switch things up often, but I believe the technique shown in this video tutorial is the easiest to learn. I realize that learning to french braid can be frustrating, and it is going to take some practice. The more you practice, the easier it will become. Soon, you will be braiding in your sleep! ;) When you are first starting out, you might try having someone help you rewind the first part of the video over and over for you as you are braiding, until you get the hand positioning down. I really tried to go slowly and break down each step of the plaiting in this video, and hopefully it will help someone. If you already know how to braid, this tutorial will most likely drive you nuts, lol. I find this a hard thing to teach! French braiding instructions step by step, and how to hold the strands! Awhile ago, we put out a "how to do a french braid" for beginners video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1GjaNAiqaA (which basically showed the mechanics of how a french braid is made.) I'm hoping today's tutorial will help to show how to hold the strands while you are french braiding hair. Keep in mind that there really is no "right or wrong" way to hold the strands in your hands. Whatever works for you to get the job done is just fine. I actually have learned 2 different ways of holding the strands with your fingers that I like to use while french braiding and switch things up often, but I believe the technique shown in this video tutorial is the easiest to learn. I realize that learning to french braid can be frustrating, and it is going to take some practice. The more you practice, the easier it will become. Soon, you will be braiding in your sleep! ;) When you are first starting out, you might try having someone help you rewind the first part of the video over and over for you as you are braiding, until you get the hand positioning down. I really tried to go slowly and break down each step of the plaiting in this video, and hopefully it will help someone. If you already know how to braid, this tutorial will most likely drive you nuts, lol. I find this a hard thing to teach! I have been on a crazy mission to figure out how and when it all started. I'm not saying definitely but it could be one of the factors. My skin is so sensitive so I am looking into it further. When the clock changes and the weather starts to feel breezy it can only mean one thing - spring is almost here! Just in time, I created this bohemian braided hair style that took me less than 5 minutes (I even added extra volume up top!) Truth be told - I'm excited my hair is starting to sit at a comfortable length since chopping it all off last year (remember that!?). I was getting a little lazy with my hairstyles but I'm suddenly feeling inspired to spice up the new season with fun new hairstyles! The truth is, my braid game is limited. I can sit on Pinterest all day and day dream about doing those crazy cool braided hair looks but in reality it's not going to happen! Please don't be too hard on me while watching this video - LOL! I know my braids aren't "perfect". What I can do is the simple braid and remix it with a little twist (literally).
