However, there is increasing scientific evidence that weight is carefully controlled in the body. There are many signals that control appetite and these can be different between individuals.
Recently Novonordisk have released the drug Wegovy, which mimics a chemical released from the gut after eating that reduces appetite.
This drug was originally marketed for diabetes, but since being sold for obesity, it has exceeded sales expectations to the point that there is now not enough drug available to treat people with diabetes. More effective drugs than Wegovy are coming online in the USA.

But, being straight with you, it’s a bit of a niche topic. After James Smith tagged me in his video, I thought I would seize the chance to break it down.
The best way to simplify it is something like this:
If you diet and lose weight, your body often fights back and makes it more difficult. There are hormonal changes that can make you hungrier, for example. This is one reason why many people struggle to adhere to a reduced-calorie diet in the long term.
So, we know hormones are important.

However, there is increasing scientific evidence that weight is carefully controlled in the body. There are many signals that control appetite and these can be different between individuals.

A new novel weight loss mechanism?
I have been meaning to post about this for ages.
But, being straight with you, it’s a bit of a niche topic. After James Smith tagged me in his video, I thought I would seize the chance to break it down.
The best way to simplify it is something like this:
If you diet and lose weight, your body often fights back and makes it more difficult. There are hormonal changes that can make you hungrier, for example. This is one reason why many people struggle to adhere to a reduced-calorie diet in the long term.
So, we know hormones are important.
BUT, is there another mechanism, that senses you are losing weight and therefore fights back by making weight loss more difficult?
If so, is it possible to overcome this by using external loading, like a weight vest? Some people have tested this anecdotally, but there isn’t yet a lot of super convincing research supporting its use. Think of it as �weird things you might want to try if you fancy it’.
So, let’s talk about weight vests, implanted rodents with weight capsules and something terms the �gravitostat’.
